I know the TRD brake pads are slightly larger than than the Kluger pads. however, im not sure of the spacing of the caliper/carrier bolts and if the Kluger calipers bolt up to the aurion.

Well if it's a 09 model camry, it should have WS oil in the transmission, which is intended to last longer than the previous types of auto fluid. WS oil is not cheap to buy, and I think can only be purchased in 4litre containers over the parts counter.

Ive seen this a couple of times, logged as a history code. Ive never seen this code give any problems, especially severe ones. I think the correct wording for the code is Startability Malfunction.

The fact that it's missed the services hasn't helped the situation, but I'm thinking of a combination of factors. Quality of oil has an important part, as well as the viscosity. I hope that ultratune hasn't been putting 20w50 in it or something like that. Just a wild guess, that poor quality oil has passed its used-by date and sludged up, not just around the oil filler cap (more to see if you ever remove the rocker covers) but the sludge has likely gotten into the bores and fouled up the piston rings, causing blue smoke and oil consumption.

I cant see why 5w30 would be a problem. As long as the viscosity doesnt go above 40 because of the VVTI, but that would be when the car starts to get quite a few kays on it. If its got lower km's (under 75000km for example) I would recommend 5w30 or 10w30

I would have said Intermediate shaft in the steering column as well. Seems to be a common thing with 2006 to 2010 model toyotas, sadly. Earlier in some cases.

I got a 2nd hand towbar for my wifes aurion - a genuine towbar (PZQ63-33130) but had difficulty getting a wiring kit 2nd hand. I don't like the idea of piggybacking the towbar wiring straight onto the LED lights. I ordered a genuine wiring kit through people I know at a Toyota dealer. With the large round plug, the part number is PZQ61-33142. It may take a while to get, as I hear production has slowed for this item, and it came with installation instructions too. As for aftermarket, I would have gone with Hayman Reece too, and gone the hitch type with 50X50 box section (as there is a 40X40 box section as an option too)

I wouldn't mind just putting my 2 cents in here. As a mechanic, ive done spark plugs on quite a few aurions. There's no need to remove the manifold on the aurion t get to the rear spark plugs. Only the windscreen plenum and windscreen wiper assembly, demonstrated in steps earlier in this thread From here, you can reach behing the manifild to get to the rear plugs (and you have to remove a bracket covering the most RH coil pack)

The VIM is a conversion adapter, like a gateway, to change 5 pin USB to the 15 pin DLC2 connector, although I don't think all 15 pins are used.

Do the chinese sell this package with their own VIM (Vehicle Interface Module) or is it a direct usb adapter cable?

I got 2 Aurions in my household. A 3500SL and a ZR6. Both of which, I have disabled the confirmation beep for the central locking. It was the first things I changed on the cars. The appropriate scantool is required for the job though. Not sure if there is aftermarket software that does more than reads/clears codes and displays a data list (of revs/temp/a-f mixture etc)

The transmission ECU is programmed differently to a standard trans ECU. If you do swap the ECU's, you have to enter the code (on the front of the transmission) into the ECU. Sorry if the reply is late.

I think there is a bit more involved with just bolting a supercharger on. I hear the VVTi oil hose (that there was a recall on) is different on the TRD's, as well as all the extra pulleys plus belt to be fitted. On that (belt) note, if the height of the charger is changed on top of the motor, to fit a cooler in, chances are the belt will not fit. other things to look at would be the wiring loom and computer too.

Yeah I've heard this isn't cheap. I know that WS oil has to be used and not T4 or Dexron 3. From what I understand as well, the WS oil is about $80 thereabouts for 4 litres. Not sure if you can get 1 litre bottles of the stuff. But on that note, I haven't seen an auto with WS oil fail because of failure to change its oil. If there is one out there, i'd imagine it would likely have 200,000+ on the clock. The stuff (in my opinion) goes for a while even when it goes dark.

As a Toyota technician, the first I heard about it was on news.com.au last night, then on the telly again this morning. I'm wondering how the media finds out about this before the Toyota mechanics do? As for myself, I have a 2008 (registered 2009) Aurion. No issues with my window switch, or even my motor/regulator assembly being noisy as the window goes up. Sorry about the late approach to the thread. I'm pretty particular about my Aurion, and I guess as a dealership mechanic, genuine parts are my preference in regards to oil filters, oils, coolant etc. I have heard stories about non-genuine parts (and to a lesser extent, counterfeit parts) that would cause headaches should something be less than 100%, and for that I buy my parts as genuine through the dealer. I've seen Aurions run safely on oils as thick as 15W40, so any thinner is acceptable to me. I use the genuine 10W30 in mine, but thicker stuff will have a slight impact on your fuel economy. DJKOR seems pretty knowledgeable with the topic. Coolant is 150,000km to 160,000km for the pink stuff, depending on the service intervals and model. I personally would be very cautious about mixing brands of coolant, in case it reacts and can cause corrosion, or water pump or radiator failure. Regardless of the make or model of the vehicle in that instance. The ATF in the Aurions is known as WS (world standard) fluid, and was intended to last the life of the transmission. It can be replaced, but is a bit of a hassle to do, even checking the level requires a procedure. Not to mention the genuine WS oil sells for more than $15 per litre, and only comes in 4 litre tins.

how many km has it done, and is the serpentine belt any good in it? I was thinking of asking for one of the 19" rims (for my spare) but looks like someone already asked for the set. It's a shame its been gutted :(

Hey fellas. Yeah I have a dash camera in my Aurion, I put it in about 6 weeks ago in fact. I got mine from dealextreme.com (and look up car DVR) and I paid about $60 for mine there. A few things to look out for, firstly make sure that it records in a compressed format. Mine records in uncompressed avi and uses about 1.2gigabytes per 15minutes at a 720P resolution. Secondly, mine has night mode and motion detect, so it stops recording when you stop at traffic lights etc, then starts recording when you move off again. I would like to point out that the motion detect is difficult to trigger at night on mine - even when driving with the high beams on. Thirdly, off the top of my head, I would also advise to get a 1080res camera if its $5 to $10 dearer than a 720res camera. My 720res will only show number plates clearly if you are virtually tailgating them. But I guess that may also depend on the brand you get.

I had the dash rattle in my GSV40 fixed while it was under warranty. Although as a mechanic myself, I have done a few of the Camry and Aurion dashboards for one reason or another. With the right tools, I managed to get my time down to 50mins to get the dashboard out (luckily the dash wiring is minimal to detach) and about 50 or so minutes to get it back in again. Including the parts to replace, my best time is just shy of 2.5 hours. Although not always is the clips the cause of the rattle.

Sorry about the late reply. I just wanted to clear up that I have TRD 0504. Mine is a silver 3500SL. From what I have read, there were 537 Aurions and 351 Hiluxes to bear the TRD plates. A total of 888, but I think that the 888 units in total were mixed as far as numbers go for Series One. Knowing that unit 0056, 0223, and 0700 and I think 0050 and 0240 as well were Hiluxes and I know that 0006, 0010, 0020, 0054, 0087, 0272, 0331, 0505 and 0583 were Aurions. As I mentioned, I have 0504, which is in Melbourne, but on carsales at the moment, 0505 is for sale in Sydney. I am Aware if the rarity of the TRD's, and that's why I have one. I don't intend on selling it, and I do enjoy getting behind the wheel of it. Also, as a bit of a heads up. I know the person who had TRD 0272, which was a black 3500SL, but the vehicle was written off on Christmas day 2011 due to hail damage in the Melbourne Christmas day storms that year. The car was drivable, but suffered excess panel damage from hail. Every window broken and every panel dented, including the fuel flap. I even saw a photo if a dent the size of a tennis ball in the C-pillar. Any more info on production numbers and specs for the TRD's would be appreciated as well.

Ive just seen some of the photos of the 50 series Aurion, although it was pitched as the Ukraine Camry in the article I read. The front end and rear lights I think look too similar to the front of 40series camry and rear of the 50series camry. I have to say that the back end looks much better than the camry with that gap in the lights being filled in. I think I will be sticking with my 40series TRD Aurion though.
