  1. I can't even get 2 fingers between the tyre and the arch with the boot empty. So i'd say it's been lowered. I'll take a look at the King Springs for now. I think I might just suck it up and learn to drive a lowered car... I guess i'm used to not caring with a lifted 80 series as my other car haha.
  2. I figured that, my sx6 never did... But i never looked to see if it hung down at all... I'm trying to figure whether its just springs or whether its springs and exhaust mounts... Or maybe just exhaust mounts.
  3. Hi Guys, After unfortunately having to get rid of my blue aurion a while back, i've finally got myself an 08 ZR6. One thing that's bothering me is that it scrapes on speedbumps etc. The scrapes are tinny, so i'm positive it's the exhaust scraping and upon inspection, the exhaust hangs down about 20-30mm lower than other parts of the car for about a metre forward of the rear wheels. I've noticed that the rear wheels sit quite high up in the guards and I'm assuming someone's lowered it or cut the springs... EDIT: I am also wondering whether the exhaust in the 08 zr6 usually hangs down that far, or whether i need to look at inspecting exhaust mounts. Does anyone have the stock measurement from hub to guard available so i can check this out? Also, does anyone have a set of sportivo rear springs laying about in the case that i need to swap the new ones out. Thanks in advance!
  4. I will hopefully be ordering the aftermarket one in the post that DJ has quoted there in the next month or so. Just need to find someone willing to install it for me... I spoke to northfield but they reckon its dodgy and wouldnt do it, but i dont think they completely understood how it worked. They didnt seem too interested in any case as soon as i asked if they installed stuff not bought through them. I will be writing a review of sorts once its done... Just a matter of finding the time... Its the only aftermarket system i've come across that seems to be legit in any case. Have a look and decide for yourself.
  5. Not quite 'un-expected' ... just one of those things :-) Batteries to me are a consumable item just like disc pads & I prefer to replace BEFORE I have issues ... nothing worse than dodgy battery & having troubles starting car :-( For the small cost of a new battery every few years, you have peace of mind that you can just 'turn the key' & go !!! I am pretty much the same... And would be expecting to replace the battery every couple of years.... But the battery is only just over 18 months old. Therefore making it unexpected as they put a brand new battery in the car when i bought it. Toyota couldnt find any major issues in the car which would drain the battery so perhaps its just a dud battery as Steve pointed out. Looks like i'll be forking out for a new battery as soon as i find work...
  6. Well the dealer put a brand new battery in the car when i bought it which was just over 18 months ago now... I wouldn't expect it to be dead already. The car has never sat in one place for long, even when i lost my licence i had friends drive it so it was regularly driven. Its still under warranty so taking it into toyota tomorrow to have diagnostics run on it to see why its draining the battery. The battery is also still under 50% warranty so shouldnt have to pay for much hopefully. Less than buying a new battery and then finding out theres a problem with the alternator or something later on....
  7. So my car has been parked out front for less than 2 days... (decent drive on monday night, and moved it yesterday to shuffle the cars in the driveway) Just now the dogs started barking to what sounded like a paulsy victim playing 'Operation!'... Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be the Aurion which was emitting an erratic beep, in no particular rhythm, which sounded like the horn, but much much much quieter. My keyfob would not unlock the car, so i had to use the key, and as soon as i unlocked it, the beeping stopped. I closed the door again and tried out the keyfob which worked just fine. I then tried to start it, and what do you know.... nothing. The car didn't even 'tick over' as cars do when their battery is going flat. It did absolutely nothing. The dash lights still work when the key is turned but thats about the extent of it. The battery did run down last week due to the doors being open when i detailed the inside. Which i found to be odd, as the MAYBE 4 hours that the doors were open, i wouldnt think it would drain the battery. Is this just a sign telling me i need a replacement battery? Had it 2 years now, and didnt think it should already need replacing. OR is this something more serious? I will try to jump start the car once this bloody rain subsides, but for now, can't do much but search for information. Cheers for any help guys.
  8. May make an appearance... And you guys didnt scare me off... lol. Just struggle to find time with a new born :)
  9. I believe that is the right bypass. (or one of the few that are reccommended) but the way it works is the smart key system has a "Ground when running" output which runs to the bypass so the bypass is only activated when the keyfob is in range of the car. www.advancedkeys.com - I've done thorough research on this and wouldnt install it on my car if i felt it could be easily broken into and my car taken. The steering lock is bypassed with a key cut (without the top end and left in the ignition. the ignition cylinder is then covered with a cover. Then a switch is installed on the 'acc' wiring so it doesnt drain the battery. (this is easier than having the steering lock disabled - easier to return to OEM if the need arises.
  10. I've done a bit of research and from what i can tell, the boot release motor will activate with a direct 12v current running through it, so all i need to do is try and find out how to have that current run when the car is unlocked, and then put the switch in. I've decided to try and set it up with a motion detector under the rear bumper so i just have to wave my foot under the bumper and the boot will pop.
  11. You do realise that bypassing the immobiliser will void your insurance right?? It is possible to do but I don't recommend it. It would be the same kind of bypass that would be installed if i had an aftermarket alarm system installed... The guys at toyota said i wouldnt have a problem with it warranty wise, i'll have to talk to my insurance company to see what they say. No it's not. To have the remote start you have to bypass the factory immobiliser that is part of the transponder chip in the key head, if you bypass that there is nothing stopping someone from breaking into your car, forcing the ignition and driving off with your car. If you are going to remove it you should check with the insurance company if they will be happy with you installing an after market immobiliser. If you were only going to be adding an after market alarm you would still keep the factory immobiliser. The immobiliser is different to the factory alarm. The system i am looking at installing prevents someone just 'jimmying' the ignition. The immobiliser will only be bypassed when the system detects the key within range. Without the key in range, the bypass remains as though it wasnt installed in the first place. So basically it tells the immobiliser there is a key there when there is actually a key. Otherwise, the car will act the same... No key = No start But like you said, i will have to call the insurance guys and ask them.

  13. So after much avail, and long hours searching for a touch free proximity switch, the only ones i found which werent 2-3mm sensing distance, were $500+. But the other day, performing a meanial task, I had a spark which has answered my questions. As I waved my hand under the Hand dryers in the shopping centre bathrooms, I realised i had been searching too narrowly. So i expanded my search, found out what kind of sensors these use and managed to come up with some relatively inexpensive HF motion sensors, which have an adjustable distance of 3 - 80cm, and sends a digital signal when activated. So I figure with the correct setup with some relays it wouldnt be too hard to wire one of these up to open the boot using one of these sensors mounted on the underside of the rear bumper. HOWEVER, the problem i forsee, is making this circuit only function when the car is UNLOCKED... so when i lock the car when i'm out, anyone who manages to activate the sensor wouldnt be able to pop the boot and take whatever is in there. This function would carry over once i install the smart key system on it, and would allow that when the keyfob is in range, the boot would be able to open without touching it. On another thought, I would try and have to make it so the circuit would only function when the car is in park, so it doesnt open going over a speedbump. Or even parking too close to the curb in a reverse park. Hopefully this project wont be too long in the making, but i need to find work first lol... I am hoping to be able to make this simple enough that i can make it up as a kit, and be able to share this with other people interested in making this useful mod. Thought i'd update this, mostly to try and see if anyone can tell me how i'd be able to hook this up so it only works with it unlocked. Will try and draft some wiring diagrams and post them up as this comes along.
  14. Spotted Daryl (well his car) at chermside tonight. Were the wheels still on it when you got back? this is, afterall, the northside. Haha.
  15. Sigh. Still waiting! Emailed them tonight. Sorry to bring up an old thread but any feedback on the lights? Seen so many ppls 'opinions' on ccfl halos who don't seem to own any on their cars. Would like to hear from someone who has them! :)
  16. On a second thought I could try find a wrecker who has a vw cc and try and salvage the sensor from it.
  17. From what I can find in the manuals available. If it's the same set up as the camry, the boot release motor will open with a current straight from the battery. The tricky part is getting it to wok only when the car is unlocked. Once I install the smart key/ push button system I'm looking at, I should be able to use the 'ground-when-running' wire from that module to allow the boot switch circuit to activate. Now having a look into the proximity switch under the bumper, on top of that, I'll have to find a way to make it run only when the car is not moving. So the boot wont pop when I go over a speed bump or reverse park too close to the curb. Also it seems that a proximity sensor for this application will be quite expensive. 400+ range. There is a company in USA called intuitek that makes a capacitive touch switch which you stick behind plastic or glass which would be perfect however They don't supply overseas though so unless I find a yank who can middle man for me, it's not an option. Ill be having a fiddle with the boot latch over the weekend and hopefully figure something out.
  18. Car is washed and clean and registered (finally) so I will be making an appearance.… also finally. Though not sure what time i will be there. How long are you usually at the meet for? Jimmy
  19. I have been looking into installing a remote keyless smart entry on my car and the only thing I can find fault with the whole thing is the boot. The kit I'm looking at has a boot release button on the keyfob but that defeats the purpose of having it hands free so to speak. (more inconvenience than a major problem) Would anyone on here know any way I could hook up a capacitance switch ( touch sensor ) to the boot release mechanism? And wire it in so it only works if the car is unlocked? And if not, would anyone be willing (once the system is installed) to perhaps design one? I'd be willing to pay for parts etc. Was thinking of mounting the switch next to the reverse cam somewhere so when you are in proximity, and the car is unlocked, all would be needed would be a light touch for the boot to open. Something I'll be looking at hopefully in the not too distant future if anyone is keen to experiment. Also, to save starting another thread, I need to get a bypass for the immobiliser in the car to install the smart system, and get confused with all the options on websites (xpresskit etc). Would an alarm installer know what to use in the Aurion? Cheers guys
  20. Sorry to bring up an old post but did you end up getting this installed? Looking at installing it myself. They have a new version. Includes buttons on the remote for boot and lock/unlock and also remote start integrated into it.
