  1. Hey everyone, Im new to the forum and new to 4runners. :) Just after a bit of help and advice. Im looking into doing an engine swap on a 1st gen 4runner. I have a few options in mind and would just like some advice and different opinions. Im not very mechanically minded, but I do know enough. Im looking at doing the engine swap my self and with some help from some mates. The engines that im looking at are the L series Toyota motors. The reason for this is that they seem to be the most straight foward, from what i have gathered, they bolt on to the original engine mounts. Originally I was looking at the 5L, 5LE and then adding a turbo to it. But comparing the hp and nm to the 2LT, 2LTE i cant seen to justify the price of adding a turbo (3000$ for a kit!). Im after power, but at an affordable price. I just need some advice/opinions on what path i should take? What would be the best option? Are there any other engines that bolt straight onto the original engine mounts? any help, or feedback would be great. What engine would you swap into a 4runner? Cheers, Michael
