  1. Hey mate, congrats on the purchase! Its a better idea to look after the car yourself, than pay someone else to stuff it up for you. But Meguiars NXT tech wax 2.0 is not what i would be using for lasting protection. Its very high in silicone, which is why it looks so good, but unfortunately it will be short lived, I know, i used to be a fan but its over priced crap really. I would say about 2 moths it will be all gone, especially if the car lives out side. I would recommend a good quality carnauba wax for a few moths protection, and proper lasting gloss. Re-apply about every 3 months.
  2. Hi Robert, Thanks, Just the stock offset so +45. I was just thinking the other day that the Camry need some new wheels actuly, but most of my spare cash goes to my 86.
  3. Lower? probably go a tad lower in the front and just a smidgin in the rear. But don't want to go too far, i like my bumpers :P
  4. My new Work Emotion Kiwami in 18X8.5 wrapped in 225/40 Rear 18X9.5 wrapped in 245/35 (Yokohama Advan V105) Mcgaurd Spline drive nuts; red caps, Genuine work red center caps. Thanks for looking, Mitchell.
  5. Yeah, it fits snugly inside the 17' rim, and just provides a little support to the mat if you place anything inside the "doughnut"
  6. Thanks juvenile! :) Yeah I brought the rubber liner, bold/plate and foam insert. I was going to cut the original mat, but decided not to worry as you don't see it, and doesn't really do anything under the rubber one anyway.
  7. Haha good one Trent! But if you look up under the dash in the passenger foot well, you will see a black cover, remove that. Then you will see a round thing with a motor attached to it, that round thing is the fan housing, its held in by three screws. Remove them, then pull it down, you should be able to leave the wiring harness attached. That's where your problem will most likely be, I once had rats get in there and there to make a nest! But failing that, revert back to Trent's suggestions :D
  8. Hi Guys, Long time no post, thought I would put a little update to my 86, Love it more all the time! done a few mods, nothing ground breaking, just chipping away slowly. 9. You have such good taste in quality John, looks mint! :)
  10. For best results I wouldn't advise car washes, and absolutely never an automated spinning/ brush one, only touch-less at worse. As said above the best results are achieved by hand washing, although its a good idea to use a high pressure washer before washing by hand to get rid of any grit etc that may be on the paint surface. You don't necessarily have to have the car detailed by someone else, as with a few products and a bit of TLC you can have your 86 looking great, but if your the type of person that would rather not tackle that kind of thing, then yes take it to a detailer and have paint correction done, followed by some sort of paint protection, like opticoat, which has a lot of people singing its praises. Once you get it how you want it, its important to treat it right, otherwise you will get the scratches and swirls back, so basically using correct washing / drying methods is so very important. Mitchell
  11. Hi, Welcome. The points you listed about are on the right track, best to use a pH neutral car wash, available form your local auto shop or online, using a lambswool or microfiber mitt, using the two bucket method, one with soap, one with plain water, always rinse the mitt in the water one, then back into the soap. Drying is best done with a waffle weave microfiber towel, again to avoid swirls, don't use a chamois, as this will drag any grit missed in washing across the paint starching it. Also its a good idea not to apply too much pressure when washing and drying, as this can potentially add more swirls, and believe you me the paint on the 86 is like butter its so soft. Adding a sealant is not polishing as such, its only sealing the paint, the proper process is to clay - polish - seal/wax, but given your starting new, the clay baring is not absolutely necessary, but some would still recommend it, personally i wouldn't worry if its brand new. Depending how pedantic you are about your car, will depend if you want to polish any light swirls that may be in the paint out, again being new there should only be a light amount, but sometimes dealers will have put swirls in the paint when washing it before you pick it up. As for being clear coat safe, only cheap **** like kitten or something like that is not clear cost safe, so stick with the good quality stuff and you will be right Sealing & waxing is pretty strait forward, but choosing the right product is not so simple, as there is plenty to choose from. Personally I have used Meguiars nxt gen tech wax, and it seems to last a long time, but have had good experiences with autoglym super resin polish (A light polish and sealer in one) Car detailing is one of those things that has no end, there is many levels depending on how you want to look after your car and how much you want to spend, and can become an obsession, especially with an 86 :P Some good sites are to buy products off, both very good to deal with http://www.carcareproducts.com.au/ https://www.zas.com.au/ With a little effort you can have your red 86 looking mint, and keeping it that way. Hope that is of some help, Cheers Mitchell.
  12. Thanks Jeff! Never said I was going to part out the Camry, besides it wouldn't be worth the hassle, especially since i don't have any of the stock parts.
  13. Hi, Recently got a new GTS 86 Aero with manual trans. Its a real joy to drive! Not really sure what mods to do just yet, but over time wheels, suspension, exhaust and perhaps something in the power department!. Still have the Camry, bit hard to part with the old girl, so she is semi retired now :P Cheers, Mitchell
  14. Few Little additions, Added a lip spoiler a few months ago Andrew Put an Azura gill on his beast, so he sold me his Sportivo grille! Thanks mate :) Other than that, I put some Superpro control arm bushes in, and just replacing a few other worn bit and pieces as she is getting on a little, 195000kms :o
  15. Doesn't look too at all bad Jeff! Are you still going to put that lip kit on?
  16. Nah, sorry i don't know which O ring it was exactly.
  17. I had a problem with the same symptoms a few years ago, turned out to be a fuel pressure issue, caused by an incorrectly seated / pinched O ring in the filter. Given your mileage the filter should have been done about 15.000kms ago, so its possible, since it was about that mileage before mine played up too.
  18. Good Job Jeff! looks nice, but looks like there was a fair amount of work involved, especially the dash. Maybe time for some new floor mats? :)
  19. Good job Jeff! the fogs look good, I finally got mine done as well, only took 2 years lol, thanks again for the plug! I got one of those grilles a while back as well, but as you say the quality is sh!t and it didn't fit, I tried modifying it but lost interest.
  20. Well done Jeff, I bet its a lot more fun now :D How did you find the QFM pads performance? I wasn't overly impressed with mine, compared to Bendix ultimate, but admittedly I kept the stock caliper. So whats next? Turbo!!!
  21. A modification plate is a small plate, like a Vin plate that is issued by an authorized engineer/mechanic to say that the modification carried out is sound and meets design rules etc.
  22. Which would most likely require a mod plate also, since I don't think anyone makes after market seat rails for the Camry.
  23. The one form the new Camry (gen 7) would not fit the gen 4, and even if they did you would have issues, since they have electric adjustment and air bags in them.(Plus you would have to buy new) Your best bet would be ones out of a gen 5, as I do believe these fit, (Not sue if any modification is needed) but a member on here STYLSH has a gen 4, and I do believe he has gen5 Sportivo seats in his.
  24. Looks very nice Eric! Been giving a bit of thought to putting coils in mine, but I don't think I could ever go quite that low. :o
