That's actually not a bad picture. Pretty clear for night time vision. It's just hard to read number plates from the headlight glare though. I think you'd have to turn off the headlights momentarily in order to capture a particular offender's plate, then switch them back on. Would this be accurate ?

You'd hate to think that after you've encountered an incident and when viewing the footage you couldn't derive anything useful.

    Maybe I'm wrong.

i would guess that playing around with the exposure/white balance in the camera settings might improve it a bit, but headlight glare is something all dashcams would struggle with to some degree id say. Fortunately I've not needed any night time footage yet, but...

Good to know that the current BlackView units don't screw your radio reception.

I must admit to using the older A119 V2 (MCV20R Camry) & current A119 V3 cams (GSV50R Aurion) and although they're a great budget cam with excellent video quality, the latest V3 does interfere with radio reception, in particular the DAB radio on my Aurion. Doesn't help that multiple antennas are all over the rear screen 😐 I wasted many hours trying to figure out the best solution for it cos I love the DAB radio, it worked in the end, but sounds like I could have avoided it all together by getting a more expensive unit.

Yeah I think its to do with Blackvue using a coaxial cable for the rear cam rather than a traditional power/signal cable as Viofo does

@nzzr6  How about video quality at night with limited street lighting ? The 60fps sure makes a big difference.

i uploaded a clip from my drive home, i think up close detail is pretty good but its just fast moving objects where detail suffers a bit. But with that being said, I do believe the 1080p 60fps model has the edge over the 4K version in terms of low light detail

Just wondering where it gets its power from if the ignition is off or is it hardwired ? Do they come with a hardwire kit or something ?

These Blackvue camera systems have changed a lot since since they came out and I haven't kept up so I'm not really that familiar with these latest versions.

Yep they come with a hardwire kit, parking mode power comes from the main vehicle battery and you can change the voltage/time settings from within the blackvue app. There is no separate "box" like say with the Viofo hardwire kit which you've then got to climb under the dash to adjust if you ever want to change the settings. You can also connect the X series cameras battery wire to a standalone battery (Cellink Neo etc) as well if you don't want to use the main vehicle battery for parking mode.

I have the older DR650 on my Hachi (average unit & even more average software) & although older it's similar to the newer versions.

    Parking Rec G Sensor: T-B= 90, L-R= 90, F-B= 90

Had to adjust to this cos even a truck driving past 20M away would trigger an event despite car in a carpark.

    Hope it helps.

Which model do you have & how do you find it?

DR750X-2CH, love it. Upgraded from a Viofo A129 which gave me nothing but trouble and majorly interfered with my FM reception. Video quality is great and have no trouble making out license plates with the 60fps. Also the usual cloud functionality is good. Installation is pretty straightforward as well. They are expensive but its definitely a quality unit. Free shipping from Blackvue 🙂

Also helps that the 750X and 900X have voltage monitoring built in, don't need a power magic pro to keep it from flattening your battery

I don't have a Blackvue, but I am hoping to get into one of these some time in the future and It's good to be able to hear the feedback. What you describe sounds frustrating and I wonder if Blackvue are aware of this and if so what would they be offering as a solution. I guessing you have the power magic hooked up too, hence the parking mode being enabled. But I have to agree, closing the door should trigger a recording event and I wonder if they could possibly introduce a "delay" option for such a situation to allow you to get out, shut the door, and not cause the recorder to start by simply closing the door. It's pretty dumb actually because closing the door will simulate someone bumping your car and trigger it. It should sense you switching off the ignition and the initiate a delay timer set by the individual and then go into parking mode after time has elapsed.

In saying all this, have you checked the settings options to see if there is such an option ?

Indeed, not a bad idea at all. There is a new firmware update so perhaps they might have, heres hoping... settings only allow the G sensor sensitivity to be adjusted along three axes, ive turned the side to side axis to about halfway.

No power magic pro, the X series have voltage monitoring built in

I wonder if the 50 series has the 40 series fog lights as a carry over. Can anyone confirm this ?

    They look pretty close.

I'd imagine so, my set came off a LC Sahara and fit on my TRD no problems at all. Only thing I guess is the silver piece at the top and bottom of the foglight surround, as both the C-HR and LC have that part covered by the bumper...

the factory unit is a 12v unit most aftermarket are 6v. There is a grey comector behine the dash where the head unit fits - that carries the power when reverse is engaged.
I'm swapping out of factory into the aftermarket now and it is REALLY painful. I've decided to tap into the reverse lamp power - but in the process shorterf the reverse light (silly me) - but I cannot find the fusebox under the glove compartment - any ideas??

    Dale

     hi mate

Cheers for that,  the fusebox is hidden by a plastic cover behind the glovebox, remove that and you'll see it way up behind the glovebox by the cabin filter.... let me know if you can't find it?

  8. Hi,

Does anyone know whats required to add the factory reversing camera to the factory sat nav headunit? I believe the blanking piece for the camera is already there above the license plate but not sure if you can just get one out of a wreck and plug it straight in? I would assume also it requires some sort of trigger detection for when the car is in reverse

    Thanks

Got a phone call yesterday saying the claim was approved & booked a date.

.... Then received another call few hours later telling me the replacement dashes are obsolete and they can't help me. At all. 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

I think what is happening is... the dashes they are using as replacements are the same ones that eventually melt, and with covid and what not, they haven't found a new supplier for the revised dashes that don't melt. So probably just using up the old ones they have. And then.....

I tend to agree mostly, but a dash protector is the only thing I would consider because of our harsh climate. Summers are brutal and direct sunlight (UV) is very damaging if you don't take preventative measures to protect certain bits.

Bonnet protectors and the like are pretty much obsolete with the advent of plastic film protection (PPF) and the higher end products have a self healing capability when struck with stones. Great to have but can be pricey to install.

Haha, I got a bonnet protector just because I like the way it looks on the Aurion... 😁

Yep, The 50 series Prodigy and Presara share the same 17" wheels actually and I have seen PS4 to suit 215/55R17, so shouldn't be a problem. Just have to dig around to get the best possible price.

I hope this Covid crap hasn't added an extra tax to tyres too...

Can't get RE003 at the moment.... No one has any

Replacing the alternator is a *BIG* job on the Aurion, need to drop the coolant, the bloody thing is squeezed behind the radiator, an A/C line is in the way, when I did mine I thought I could get away without removing the front completely and it was a mistake, it cost me an aircon regas cause I had to disconnect that line. Then there's poor access to one of the bolts that's right behind the wheel well and I needed two deep sockets of different length to work on that b4$tard. Wouldn't do it again unless I end up stranded in the middle of nowhere.

in my case i ended up removing it twice, once to do the job and another to do the belt tensioner which i should have just done the first time when i had it all out 🙄

That's interesting. I'm not up to speed on the specs as yet but I do like quality products. I have had a cheapo dash cam and it was rubbish and have since stopped using it. If I am to get a Blackvue I will go the whole hog and install both front and rear and have the power back up so it can record when parked.

This is what I don't understand too much about. Have to do a bit more research. Thanks for the heads up. I like the faster fps as it's the finer detail one really relies on when you really need it. Big objects are a given and almost all cameras will show these well but the finer detail including night vision are two very different beasts. I'll read up some more when I get a chance.

    Thanks

No worries, feel free to PM if you want, Done a few of these now 👍

That's very interesting too. But I can say that I have had issues with a press button keyfob in my 2017 D-Max and had no dash cam in that. Some kind of dead zone wasn't enabling the signal for some reason. It wasn't all the time, only at specific locations and one of those was Station St Blacktown.

I'm considering going down the Blackvue route too. The 900 looks promising. Does the DR750 have 4K ? (HEVC compression)

Yeah I'm not sure what it was. I got a replacement rear camera cable, replacement front camera module and the issues persisted.

Nah, the DR750 is 1080p only, but it is 60fps unlike the DR900. For being able to make out detail in fast moving footage (i.e. a number plate of a car passing you in the opposite direction) the 750 holds the upper edge. the DR900 is 4K 30fps I believe, so it trumps the 750 in terms of overall video quality but isn't 60fps so it sort of loses an edge when it comes to trying to make out detail in fast moving footage. I do believe the 750 is slightly better in terms of night time quality as well. One thing to note though is if you want built in voltage monitoring you need to get the X series, otherwise you'll have to get a Power magic pro or similar to do that part for you :). Theres also LTE versions of those cams (I believe Australia is on the list of supported countries) if you want, so you can use the cloud features wherever you are, even if you aren't with your car.

Could go on and on, they are expensive, but I do think its a very good package for what you get.

    Very interesting 🤔

As a matter of fact I had a Viofo A119 V3 fitted about 12 months ago. It has a hardwired kit installed for parking mode so is always on standby.

I had a Viofo dashcam fitted as well, it was the A129 model with front/rear camera. I replaced with a Blackvue DR750X-2CH and now no issues at all. My FM reception issues also sorted themselves out. Maybe it was just a faulty cable, don't know.

You could try unplugging the camera so theres no power to it, see if you still have problems then 🙂

Did you message him ? I think he's avoiding International shipping like Europe, Asia and the Americas. I suspect if you contact him he may ship it to you being our Ozzie Neighbour. I think postage to N.Z. has become expensive too. The world has truly gone kooky.

To his credit he did try to add a NZ shipping option but it seems like ebay makes this a clunky affair to change, I've had this before when buying off Australia postage only listings. You'd think ebay would make it easy... Would have been $20 postage here which i was happy to pay
