  1. Hope it;s good from now on. Glad it;s all fixed free of charge for ya. The new water pump designs are total ****. Even the 1NZ (1.5L in Yaris and Prius) have the same issues. You now know for sure one way to tell the water pump is going bad (the noise). The other way you can sometimes tell (espetially with the 2.4L 2AZ-FE) is that some coolant will drip onto the belt, and be flung up onto the black bonnet liner. So if you ever see a red/pink line on the bonnet liner, you know the water pump is going bad that way.
  2. It;s not normal but I have seen it happen before. The 2AZ-FE's I have seen needing a new water pump in as little as 35k km. As for the engine being pulled, here in the US you were supposed to pull the engine for the 2GR water pump, BUT, all the Techs here know how to do it with the engine still in the car.
  3. I;m not going crazy like some of my friends. I'm building my original 1MZ-FE that came in the car (currently running a stock 2MZ-FE). My heads are at my friend Tony's shop (DynaMotorsportsTuning) in Toronto Canada getting ported and polished. For the block itself, all I'm doing is custom pistons to bump the compression from 10.5:1 to 11.0:1. The higher compression will be fine since I am not planning anything crazy. I had the TRD SC on and will be putting it back on with the new engine once it;s done. My friend Tony who I mentioned above has a '94 Camry with a 3MZ-FE block (3.3L engine) with the 1MZ-FE heads, completely built up. Currently putting down 934whp. I know you guys don;t do whp there, but for a comparision, it;s almost the same as a Bugatti Veyron, lol. I also have another friend with a '95 and yet another with an '01 that are building thier engines right now for around 600whp. Up to a couple years ago not much was going on, but for some reason it has just gone crazy and people are building them now. There are also a few other people building thier camry but I don't know too much on them yet. Couple of the posters in this thread are really good Camry modders as well. :)
  4. A nice set of coilovers, along with a couple braces and a really good set of tires does wonders on the track. I have some friends that race thier Camry's here, and really surprise the hell out of everyone with how well they perform. One friend who regularly races has an '03 Camry V6 Auto, stock engine, some suspension mods, and front big brake kit I put on, and another who regularly races has a '94 V6 5spd (swapped from Auto) with a TRD Supercharger @ 7PSI on coilovers with a couple braces. He took the Camry to a BMW Track Day (His daily is a 5 series), and he passed everyone in his class, lol. I actually just swapped out my TRD Springs for a set of ISC Coilovers, and it is a night and day difference in handling.
  5. Wow, I need to smack an Aussie all the way from here in the US. Bloody stupid comments. Form > Function is for ricers. Liam, AWSOME to see you want to track the car. I plan to track my '96 later this year. I can;t wait to see what you do. I'm currently building a custom motor for it.
  6. haha, wow. I make my own intakes. :-D
  7. Do you even know what your talking about? The others are right on the 3/1MZ hybrid.
  8. TPS EGR Valve Vacuum leak Bad Gas Throttle body too dirty

    93 camry

Exactly. Onnly other thing I'd add is check the plug on the Alternator to make sure it's not loose or coroded.

    93 camry dukey

    WHAT?!??!?!?!?!?!
  11. Ho Hum What you say is possibly true of USA but doesn't carry in Aus. For one thing the new all Alloy engine puts it the gen 4, streets ahead and well lets face it style of the newer caradded space etc etc?!! I said not factoring in power or style. The Quailty of the new camry's is ***** poor. And the 2GR engine is well, powerful, but crap. I am at my local dealership DAILY, and hang out with the mechanics. They constantly complain about the 2GR engine in every way, and how the MZ series is better. The design of the GR series engine is not good, and is too complicated. As for the Gen 4, the quailty and design is not up to that of the Gen 3, but still a lot better then the Gen 5.
  12. IF you legitimatley compare: 1: Quality 2: Reliability 3: Fit and Finish 4: Detail 5: Materials used The Gen 3 (VCV10, SXV10, MCV10) is actually the best. In the US, I can actually pinpoint the EXACT year where Toyota hit the top, 1994. It started downhill after that. I;m not arguing performance, looks, etc. That is different.
  13. ^ If done right, you don't sacrifice anything. :-P Like I said, 7.66 liters/100 km putting down 224whp, lol. 14.5s 1/4 mile. :-D Granted, none of my friends can understand how the hell U pull off that mileage, and I;m stumped myself honestly.....
  14. Hmmmm.....Thats 25mpg US. Thats not all that good actually. My last LONG trip was to Canada. I got about 30.7 miles per gallon (US) equals 7.66 liters/100 km averaging around 115kph. It WAS mostly a flat drive, not many hills. Hills WILL make a massive difference though. If I were to do that drive another way, with hills, it may take off 4mpg from my fuel economy. Just look into normal maintmence like cleanign the throttle body, spark plugs, etc. Cheap stuff, and see if that halps.
  15. OH!!!! Ok, the ECU. Yeah, the Engine Computer. I doubt those will net you any mpg. I get better mileage from my SuperCharged V6 Cmary then it was rated from the factory. There isn't too to omuch you can do to up the mileage. But here are stupid simple things people often forget. 1: Tire Pressure 2: Spark Plugs and wires 3: Weight (luggage and such) 4: Aerodynamics (body kits will lower your mileage) 5: Getting lightweight alloy wheels can help 6: Clean the MAF with a special MAF or Electronics Parts Cleaner (non-clorinated). 7: Clean all the carbon off of the throttle body, and if you can, clean the intake plenum too. Whats your current gas mileage?
