  1. hello all, my missus has a 2002 sportivo V6, it has started to blow smoke on cold startups and after sitting for a while..it is definitely using some oil, but no smoke when warm, what are your thoughts/experience with something like this..car has about 200,000kms, valve stem seals maybe??any help appreciated., cheers
  2. i haven't had this problem with my 87, but if it helps., i would replace the power steering pump, if you have no leaks, and steering gets heavy at speed, the pump may be bypassing fluid, at the other end, the worm gear in the rack maybe worn out, couple of things to try maybe, good luck... just my thought here, but if the mechanic told you that replacing the rack ends?? would solve the problem and it didn't... i would not have paid him..my opinion
  3. gonna make things bit easier for myself., looking at putting in koni yellow inserts adjustables, fit into your OEM struts so when in, look origidig, but adjustable for stiffness., when fitting i will be lifting the spring saddle about an inch to help with tyre clearances, $650 ish a set of 4 from the USA, plus post., gonna cost $570 FOR 2 here in adelaide,. keep ya posted
  4. hello all, can anyone tell me,. does anyone know if toyota corolla coilovers would fit a celica of the same years., i.e. 88 - 00 corolla ., 88-89 st162 celica, the reason i ask is i see some new coilovers for corolla but the same people dont supply for celica i have found that some parts are inter changeable., these are not high end made shocks so price is reasonable., also some times they are available used for good price too.,has anyone/does anyone know of putting other make of cars coils into there celicas i.e wrx coils etc,if they look the same and have similar length of travel, mountings are the same etc., curiosity on my part here, i get a bit frustrated at the price difference between corolla and celica stuff and the like., thanks for any info would appreciate your thoughts
  5. thanks mr2, gonna go with a 3sge rebuild and do a 20v later looking around i think they call mine a 4th gen, 1st gen is 70's toyo ?
  6. hello all, this is my first post as i have just bought a near immaculate 89 white lightning,[ i am a long time ford boy from years back, now liking fwd four pot thrills] only thing with it... no motor, the previous owner sent it off [to sydney] i think he said to be rebuilt, he never saw it again...scammed ? anyway so now i'm looking for a replacement, with luck i think i have a 3sge 'big cam' replacement from melbourne, so now i am doing research on the rebuild, can any of your good selves point me toward a rebuilder in adelaide? but i will consider interstate [ with caution...], looking to do a performance rebuild but without being too obvious, want strong balanced internals new rods and forged pistons kit good bearings rings etc, line bore and balance, oversize? to be decided head work open up and flow etc, change cams? etc, all usual stuff for a strong rebuild advice from your experiences would be appreciated, as this is my first four pot rebuild , [have years of ford v8 time] so new ground to me i have been looking at the sc12/sc14 superchargers [i see that there is virtually no rebuild/recond. available for these i'm not looking at turbo at this time, i like the stealthy look of the little blowers [less obvious to the boys in blue] thoughts?? i am wanting a stock look but with a 'sleeper' surprise when needed headers/extractors fuel and electronics? any advice here would be great, thinking of using the stock fuel set up., any advice here? and suspension, the car has new struts already but as i do like to hit the corners at speed at times advice /experience here also is appreciated i know you guys probably get these requests from near every newbie, i have been looking through the posts here and elsewhere and have a good idea of what i want, your experiences here to put me on a right path to a quick car is what i hope for., many thanks for any help- Geoff p.s if interested see my gallery for the little gem i scored for $300

  8. Hello all from newbie toyota owner[of sorts]., and newbie here, i have just purchased a 89 celica SX 'white lightening' [minus the motor] a3SGE st162 [bigcam? version?? it was a 1 owner old lady driver originally so the car overall is immaculate the guy i bought it from said that she had it in a garage for 5 years as she drove another car, he bought it drove it for 6mths and the engine gave out!! he had it parked in his garage for 2 years.planning to modify, he tells me he took out the engine and sent it to sydney to be rebuilt., he never saw it again... so i paid $300 for the rolling car and i'm now looking for a motor..... i spose a question to ask is, is the 3SGE a decent motor to put back in? or as i plan to bump up the internals, is there a better option with a later model motor that wont be a major f**k around to put in [is a 5 speed currently] any tips or experiences here would be appreciated i have been looking on ebay, and see these 'beams' motor from japan, they are a nth/sth motor, does anyone know if they can be mounted east/west with the gearbox i have., [sorta like the mitsubishi 2.6 in the later magna can be fitted to the earlier scorpion 2.6] tried gettin a motor through the HOTLINE 40, no motors in adelaide ?? rang around some toyo wreckers same result can probably get 1 if i buy another cheap car with near dud motor [maybe best option] thanks for looking and any help/ideas would be appreciated - Geoff
