no steering rack in these old girls, drag links and steering arms all the way. maybe try searching for a 4x4 hilux of the same year, im pretty sure they had power steering. if not throw a set of stock wheels on it and practice your biceps curls haha.

get a wynns engine oilf flush additive, get engine to operating temp, pour additive into engine oil, start vehicle and let it idle for 15min or so, dump oil and replace filter. the point of this is dirty oil can block vvti oil galleries and cause it to operate irregularly. try that and see where it gets ya.

if its been compression tested and come up fine then it could mean theres a litttle imperfection in the head gasket between oil galleries and coolant galleries. or theres a crack in the head somewhere.
