  1. Ive always run Penrite oils in my car had the whole bull**** story from everybody saying you need to pay more $$$ for a motor like a 2ZZ what a load of horse **** HPR5 is all that mine see's and i do it every 5 k , sounds like a tractor and reminds me of a 4AG motor noise wise , it's normal , all the 2ZZ's ive seen make the same noise. Im sure running water spec oil in them makes them sound more like a john deer though! No matter how anal you are if you don't know the sound of your motor somethings obviously amiss.

full synthetic in a 2ZZ makes them sound like they are ready to let go in a big way!! Even with a full mineral based oil they are a noisy engine!!

  2. X pack is a dealer after market paint protection and like 99.99% on the market it is a money making gimmick. the only thing that will protect your car from damage fro bird poo etc etc is a roof on your garage lol.

I get it all the time at work with people coming in and saying "i want no wax as I have paint protection on my car". I think to myself suckers as they forked aout a fortune for a polish/wax that I could do for $60. BMW charges $2600 for paint and leather protection so my customers tell me which is a crime as if the leather gets dirty you take the car back to BMW and they clean it for you otherwise it voids your warranty. Yes they charge you for the clean which is crazy and as far as the paint protection goes it ain't much better.

Best protection for your paint is don't park under a tree park out in the sun. Yeah you might get some fading occur but if you kep the polishing and wax up to it you will have far far less damage in the long run than having bird and bat poo eating away at your paint's surface.

My tip is the start of each weather season do a clay bar, polish then seal it with a wax and your car will stay looking sensational for a long time.....

  3. As far as temperature conditions go it doesn't get that cold here in Qld as each oil will give you approximations of what the oils operating temps are from coldest to hottest. Power wise the difference between dyno runs was a few months but also a fair few more k's on the clock and it was like 4 odd kw difference. Nothing else on the car changed apart from changing oil and roughly 15000kms more on the clock. I found cold starts better as the lighter oil pumps around quicker plus it still has some form of mineral base and isn't a full synthetic so it doesn't have the viscosity of water so to speak. You prolly would make more with a full synthetic but that simply just ins't suited to the conditions you put a car through as a daily driver. Plus it gets real expensive changing it every 5k.

Car made 123kw atw with 113000kkm's on the clock with CES ported headers and cat back, TRD CAI with ITG pod Filter.

  4. I'd be doing a whole engine rebuild not just the top end. Balancing titanium rods, crank crack tested as well as balanced and perhaps lighten the counterweights a tad by knife edging, equal weighting rods and pistons(new pistons), gapless rings, new timing chain and tensioner, new clutch and light flywheel with new bolts, high volume baffled sump wouldn't hurt or my preference would be a dry sump set up with extra oil cooler and increased oil capacity.

That's just a start plus what you have already mentioned. Be prepared to spend up big as achieving a high revving N/A engine will almost cost as much as setting one up for forced induction.(Now that Xoom has done all the hard work LOL)

  5. Mate curb your attitude. SD knows about the 2zz more than most people in this forum.

@mecha wombat. How long have u been running penrite 10w50? I've got a bottle ready to go in next week! :)

Also is it the hpr10? Semi syn? Hopefully this will get rid of the ticking noise I have too :)

I actually ran HPR 5 in my sportivo and it yielded me the best HP figures on the dyno. I originally was running the 10 but switched to the 5 after chatting to an associate who is heavily involved in drag racing and using penrite oils. Definately felt better but the best thing you can do with a 2ZZ is change the oil every 5 000k's not 10. It does make a difference.

From someone who knows a lot about 2ZZ's and told Superdave most of what he knows :) They are one big mechano set and can be tricky to work on if you don't know what you are doing!!

  6. In stock form the engine's are ok but if anyone has tinkered with it it's a case of a ticking time bomb as other's have said. also be prepared to spend a lot of money on the handling side of things as they really are a bit of a pig as far as handling is concerned. Very easy to overpower the chassis dynamics with engine upgrades which will then see you spend a lot on mods to make the thing stay on the road.

  7. Dave, does that sound right?

Sounds like BS. If you look at the picture of the front one there is a cross member there anyway.

Chassis' need to be stiff, not dampened ;)

Couldn't agree more. Fluffy toys and heads on springs on the dash would be cheaper and prolly do the same amount of good...... ;)

  8. Good to see you put the catch can in there mate cause I do remember the phone call LOL :P

Plus don't forget knwowing people who can give you info on technical stuff and give it to you for free. A lot of places won't give info unless you are paying for them to do the work. Bill is lucky he had Sportivo Central on his speed dial quite a few times ;) ;)

CES did a turbo conversion on a 2ZZ sportivo drive in drive out type of deal. Cost the guy roughly $16.5K and that was with no brake upgrade or gearbox upgrade.

Making a lil more power than Xoom's car it wasn't long till gearbox was broken and then brakes were very worn out in a short space of time. Then the moron simply belted the ******* out it for 3 months without checking anything and did some engine damage due to low oil level(turbo cars suffer with a lil oil usage) and bought it back to CES to fix. that was gonna cost him another $7.5K to repair cause the block was damaged.

So unless you have at least $25k to waste then don't bother cause short cutting on some things will come back to bite you in a very big way.

Nice write up Xoom!! Also saves me answering a few PM's as well..... :D

  9. You shouldn't be scrubbing on superlows with stock wheels. Perhaps you mean you scraping everything? I don't even get scrubbing..

how don't you... mine actually scrubs the inner guard over hard bumps, hard bumps on the highway lol :P

it may have something to do with running 45's instead of 40's lol

    Evo

haha brissy roads are prolly a bit different to melb and perth?:D

    Yeah they are smoother...... :P

  10. But its Symmons Plain Raceway and Baskerville Raceway Tasmania for a bargain price of less than $400 !!!!

    Once in a life time too !!!!! So compare to once a year .... :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

    Sigh .... decisions decisions decisions !!!! <_<

    :o :o :o :o

I was going to say you will do far less damage to your car at the National Meet but then I just realised who I was replying too..... :P :P

  11. Like I said to you guys the other weekend I am a maybe at this point as work is being a pita about getting time off. If the push comes to shove I will find another job!!

So put as a maybe at this point. I will prolly fly down me thinks :D

wentworthville F1 ftw!! Just won't be the same without Azza rolling around on the floor clutching his knee after wiping it out on the corner of the bed LOL

  12. The answer grasshopper is in this question

How long would SilvaBullit last in the pasenger seat of the colt?

    1. Not at all

    2. 1 hour

    3. all day

    whitestivo

    1. Not at all

    He wouldn't fit.

Hey Hey easy there or else.....

Yup seen Rowan push the Aurion up Nebo and he kept me in sight whilst I was driving JC's sportivo. Mind you someone else's car I wasn't pushing it hard plus I didn't really like the ay his car handled so definately nothing on the edge like you would do in your own car.

Plus my Sportivo was a lot quicker than Grandpa JC's and easier to drive......

  13. Imagine how a black car would look like if the silver is guaranteed to shine like that..

I've seen Silva just wash a black car and it looked mint. Don't think my mind could handle what a complete detail would look like.

Hmmm. The black vs. silver argument in my head is starting to get pretty intense. One side wants the black for the classy look, but the other says that silver would be the MUCH wiser choice. It will drive like 800km a week, so looking cleaner for longer is a strong point. Plus it helps to hide the inevitable swirls.

You make rather wise comments there grasshopper :P

You can get a silver car to look the goods you just have to know how to do it. ;) Plus silver will also hide a lot of blemishes that a black car cannot do ESPECIALLY if it is a high mileage DAILY DRIVER.

My car was still winning trophies with over 100 000km's on the clock and being only 3 and a bit years old.

Good luck finding one mate!! Will be happy to give her the once over to get it up to scratch if it needs it.

    SB

  14. Daryl sorry to hear about the car mate. First I heard was from Lylee at the cruise in Sydney yesterday and thought you had loaned your car to Guni LOL.

Cars can be replaced people can't. At least if they write it off you won't see it again. I saw my Sportivo Corolla for the first time in over a year a few weeks back and it is in a bad way. I would much rather never see it again then see it just falling apart like it is.

Personaly go silver it is faster and a hell of a lot easier to look after. Plus I know someone who can get a gloss and reflection on a silver car that will guarantee you some more trophies for the sideboard.......
