  1. Hi Joe I didn't listen to it on the video but it seems to me you may have urethane bushes installed at some stage. In particular if you find some bushes which are not black. Just love the suggestion of the old mobile phone… xc
  2. My suggestion is ot contact Al Tune (I think is the name of the business). He is at Bardwell Valley and works economically. My reference is because he got my 4AGE competition car flying and it didnt cost me a ship-load. I only have Al's number as 0499 087 772. Tell him Mr Wayne sent you. I hope you have the success i have with Alex. :-)
  3. Hi guys I must replace my clutch. I'm doing hill climb work which is obviously hard on a clutch. I want to go up in durability and I don't think the heavy duty would be appropriate. Or would it? In the Exedy range there is an 'SO' but I don't yet know the cost of it. I would appreciate any advice, but please be conscious that I am on a budget. Any other recommendations on brands please? Also, I want to use an off-the-shelf lighter flywheel, can anybody give me recommendations on aluminium vs Chrome Moly or other please? Thx Wayne
  4. Thanks Matt Couldn’t find the PM option and following Post Options I lost the draft so here goes again… Firstly, everything is standard and by shifting the bolts I now have 1 degree negative on all 4. In competition yesterday (on 14” Advans) under hard braking then a tight turn I was consistently lunging forward & lifting the inside rear wheel (like Minis do) – scary feeling! Talking this morning with a mate who races a rear wheel drive car he thought this occurred from the suspension being too stiff as he is wheel spinning out of tight turns on South Circuit (no LSD). I’m unsure which suspension element to improve is best… I’m liking the idea of AE101 coil overs assuming a heavier car and hence heavier springs(?) I don’t want to lower the car, I fitted up a second set of wheels with 205/55/R16 and under load was just scraping the tyres on the guards. I want to maintain height but may have to go to a lower profile after sorting the suspension. As to uprated sway bars over the standard on the car I wonder if it wouldn’t accentuate the lifting of the rear – your thought appreciated. Thanks Wayne
  5. MUCH APPRECIATED GUYS - THANKS. Funny thatthe plate says AE92 i subsequently found the VIN has AE93 in the long number. Go figure... Appreciate the help and Red Book lead. None of this changes the car - love it! Cheers Wayne
  6. MUCH APPRECIATED GUYS - THANKS. I booked the car into Selby's before i got the Peders recommendation and they are going throughfor bushes it right now & wheel alignment to start with. It needed a rego check anyhow. Car gets its first event Sunday week, then SuperSprint later in the month. I'll get the feel of it and come back to the posts then. Again - thanks... Wayne
  7. Hmmm... 71 views and nobody can help? Is the question too hard?
  8. Well I am amazed that after 55 visits at this question not one member can contribute any information!
  9. I'm referring my GTi as AE93 while the plate actually says AE92, yet it is a genuine GTi. I have read some SX & GTi's are AE92 but want to know from you blokes 'in the know'. Appreciate your help...
  10. Inviting advice on improving suspension handling on my 91 model GTi please. I'm thinking of taking the car to Selby's & getting advice on handling improvements, yet I realize the forum members have been there & done that specific to the AE93. BTW, I'm referring the car as AE93 while the plate actually says AE92, yet it is a genuine GTi. I have read some SX & GTi's are AE92 but want to know from you blokes 'in the know'. 'Ll make a separate post on this topic.
  11. Just like some advice on ow to set up negative camber to the front & at how far in degrees you thn need to adjust castor - if that is possible. Appreciate any advice...
  12. If I buy replacement dimple & slotted rotors will I need to change the calipers to accomodate any extra width? Front? Rear? Appreciate comments...
  13. Selbys to the rescue $175 for two kits does all the rear suspension. Toyota genuine supplies the lower rear arm complete at $270 a throw. Steering vagueness fixed.
  14. i went to change rear left wheel last nt and found when gripping at 9 & 3 O'clock there is about 5mm of lateral movement. No wheel bearing noise. i suspect this is the bushes in the control arms. this may explain the vagueness in the steering? my first question out there is about driving safety. if i can control the car ok, is it otherwise safe? thanks in anticipation of your help and comments. Rgds Wayne
  15. this video instruction works just fine. It does say to heat to 40 degrees. I guessed that part but worrked well. Thx again
  16. I'd like some advice from anyone who has experience in stripping off window tint please.
  17. Hiro. I'm very grateful for your efforts and indeed respectful of your senior knowledge with these machines. I am more comfortable with reality that is 135kW at the maximum, at the flywheel. Interesting you mention sticking oil rings; this car blew smoke the day I bought it, but hardly blows blue smoke now. Maybe... I hope. Thanks also for your clarity on Cosworth. Fortunately I only told my brother that story, and I can Easily set the record straight! Any tips on how to strip window tint? Sides and rear are way to dark. Thx. Wayne
  18. Standard workings; 16V head smallport Red-top with extractors sports exhaust and running a pod only. Category only allows these mods. My mechanic mate tuned it last weekend, used a fuel additive, and he estimated it is 125-135kW. I doubted it but it does perform well. Any opinions as to what these mods will yield? I bought the car to do motorsport only basically in road registerable category and am not keen to spend big money until I know the characteristics. I'm ex Classic Mini enthusiast and a well-known race driver advised me they have similar to mini handling characteristics and I hope that proves to be true. At 270K & blowing a little smoke I need to be considerate with worn oil rings & if the load is too heavy - ie., needing to drop back a gear and sustain 7000+ I wont play hard and just suffer a slower time. Competition against others is not my thing. I'll then go regularity etc just for the fun of circuit events. 15+ years ago I had a Rolla 4WD and learnt that those things would go >400K before the engine needs any surgery and this gave me faith that the bottom end and compression are a good engine for hard work (even though the 4WD wasn't 4A-GE). Is this the case with the 4A-GE? I also found with internet research the generic engine is Cosworth (Ford / Lotus) - that excited me too. I have found some cars last longer with more compatible oils. I'm very pleased you recommend Penrite - in my car club the company gave me a lot of information which I presented one club meeting evening. They are great and Aus made! Your help Hiro is appreciated.
  19. i have searched through FAQs and did not find anything specific Answering my question. Can I invite pinions on the preferred oils to use in competition please? My motor is well used. Odo reads 280k but no idea the milage on the engine. Car to be used for hillclimbs, ie., short burst w high loads on para warm engine. appreciate opinions Thx.
  20. Hiro - thanks for the tip. While there is no rust in the tail gate, there are Rust Bubbles along the top of the windscreen. Nothing evident in the A pillars tho. I will investigate further. I'm pretty sure there's no rust anywhere else, i've been all over it. Thx again.
  21. Thx. Need to build posts to improve profile. All the best jeffy
  22. Thanks Hiro. That helps me to get a better understanding. Very grateful for your time in responding. The car is red. I got lucky no rust! I could not avoid a few kid things like aluminium pedal covers & blue lights. But performance is v good.
  23. I'm here at last! Two months ago I bought a 1990 Rolla Hatch SX. I've found Internet research Limited. You lot seem to know your stuff! I'm very grateful. Wayne (XC9000)
