  1. G'day, as the title says I'm new to Toyotas. My son has just bought a 97 Hilux Xtra Cab SR5 4x4 truck with 3L (2.8ltr diesel) As with all our vehicles we plan to maintain it ourselves :) I have been a Nissan and Ford man for years but the good Nissans, ie those with the legendary TD42 4.2ltr diesel engine have become scarce or the good ones are priced beyond reality so I too am looking at 80 and 100 series Landcruisers for when my trusty old MK (1985) diesel patrol bites the dust. :( Cheers Ric
  2. Hi, I'm new here but I notice there are a lot of unanswered questions throughout the forum. Surprises me a bit. I thought there were millions of Hilux owners in Aus Anyways, Black smoke in a diesel under load is usually a sign of over fuelling. Fuel pump might need calibrating. Could also be dirty injectors. I'm only brand new to Toyotas but have and still do have Diesel Nissans old and newish. Cheers Ric
