  1. They're most certainly correct the kit has been discontinued. I managed to get the last (apparently) Sideskirts and rear valance from Toyota themselves after they found them in a dealer in WA. The shipped them literally across the country for no extra :) Now comes the sad part, I have all but the TRD front, and the only way to get it is a fibreglass replica :( Getting a kit put on up here is about 1500 - 2000, but it obviously differs place to place. Depending on the condition of your paintwork when you collect the pieces a full respray isn't all *that* much more, especially if you do some disassembly yourself. Good luck on the hunt! EDIT - Sorry I forgot to add the price of the original parts. Bonnet spoiler set me back about 340, Side skirts about 280 each, Rear valance about 320. Not cheap, but not as nasty as I expected.
  2. Sorry for the delay in replying, you may have looked into this already! There is no easy way to remove the boot panelling in a 7th Gen :( You've got to start at the door sill and pull each section off the clips as you head along the side. The rear seat on the side in question does not have to come out but it's much more accessable if you do. I learnt the hard way taking most of a day to run the RCA and power lines back for a Sub.
  3. Just adding a second to the last post. He's very right, no entrapment laws in Queensland. They can pull up next to you, "entice" all they like, then flip the lights. I've watched more falcodores fall for it than I thought possible. I have no issue with cameras, mobile or fixed, as I mentioned before. The only gripe I would say I have is when they see me and follow me for 30 min from one side of the city to the other. "It's a 20 something guy in a fast looking car, we'll tag along until he does mess up somehow!!"
  4. That's the key shape they use in the 7th gen Celicas, 1999-2005. I'm sure it's used in others also. Thing is, Toyota should have been able to give you an exact list of vehicles as soon as they saw it. Sounds like a lazy parts / service department to me!
  5. They've already announced the interior was just an artistic experiment looking into the "Barely covered nuts and bolts" concept, and that it will be redesigned with the normal bits and pieces. The interesting bit I've read is that they intend to leave the outside completely as is, the positive response for it has been that large. The engine and running gear keep changing from blog to blog, article to article. The only "solid" or correlating piece of info between the sites and newsgroups is a bloody nice one :) Word is STI have put their hands up to fool with the 3 door (the FT86) AND their respective 5 door (the new Impreza). This little tidbit could account for the erratic price estimates from site to site. Regardless, it's because of this toy that my current SX is going no further than having the Sportivo kit put on this September. I can't bring myself to spend on her when there's a sweet-as rwd on the horizon!
  6. We've had mobile speed cameras longer than I can remember, but yeah, they USED to be so obvious it hurt. Current model vans and fourbies parked on the nature strip, just as mentioned previously. They've taken it a bit further now.. "Marked" is black Landcruisers with a grey font along the side that's only readable standing perpendicular to the vehicle. And for extra fun, with the Townsville 400 v8's about to start, we've got NSW Echos and Yaris' driving around with P plates.... and two uniformed cops inside each!! As for my opinion, it's the smart one. If you don't speed, you don't get fined. Nothing to worry about if you're not causing worry!
  7. The space around the factory headunit is an easy fix. If you go to the nearest Autobarn etc, Aerpro makes a cradle specifically for the 7th Gen Celica and Echo (weird but yeah same layout). As for the amps, I'm no guru, but it's usually an idea to run two, one for your speakers and one for the sub. My Corolla (before the wife hydrolocked it) had a Four channel running the speakers and a two channel bridged running the sub. If you want to play your sounds long and often it's ideal to seperate the speakers and sub. As for the speakers, if possible test them inside the car, but not installed properly. Even the stock speakers in my SX are quite reasonable, and are likely superior to those offered free with a headunit. I could be wrong about them, but that's why I suggest testing them inside the car acoustic environ before installing. Hope I've been of some help!

    So I went into my local Toyota dealer last week and got a bit of a surprise. According the the guy in parts / sales I spoke to, the ENTIRE Sportivo kit is still available for the zzt-231. Now, I've been looking into the Sportivo kit as a likely candidate, it looks smooth, not too low, genuine to boot. But is it really worth the 3.3k unpainted, unfitted? That's not even including the rear spoiler! Heading into that price range for a raw product I may as well look into the Veilside.. One question for the 7th genners though. Just how much further does it protrude at the front compared to other kits? Do standard driveways suddenly become nightmares?

I believe in the case of proper damage to the vehicle yes they do have to declare it, and it's checked when the car is put through the QLD transport re-engineering cert (I have no idea of the other states.) This was a bit of a different case as only the engine was damaged. The rest of the car was in pristine condition. So I think in this case they just have to pop a new 1zz-fe in and off it goes to the yards.
  10. Hard to tell on the price, but for an indication the market value on my 2005 Manual Ascent (She will be missed!) a few weeks ago was only 12.5k. That's with about the same k's as the one you're looking at. Now I know autos attract a higher price, and it's likely from the next batch after mine, but a full 4k more sounds a bit much. It is an ascent after all, not a Conquest!
  11. Hey all, long time no post. Well, my insurance group finally got around to finishing all their decision making, and well... she's a goner. 11k quoted to repair by my local dealer, and the car was valued at 12.5. Reparable write off... Seems a bit seedy to me, as it appears the dealership themselves got first buyer option and are selling it all fixed! I can't really complain as it was under full comprehensive and I've gotten away cleanly, no loss of insurance rating etc. Now I just have to stop myself using the proceeds from the payout on the Celica. Well, after the bonnet spoiler anywho....
  12. As most of you folks down south would have seen in the news, the last month has produced a phenomenal amount of rain for the upper Queensland region. Sadly my fiance went against her bettter judgement and went driving in it in the Corolla. One flooded round-about and the 1zz got ummmm.... shall we say thirsty? Time for a new engine! I'll chuck photos on here if I can get in and see it before my local dealership rips it all out.
  13. I actually on the support services side as a chef for ESS. I'm on a 2weeks on 1week off shift at a small mine called Trekelano, an offshoot of Osborne mine near Mt.Isa. By pure luck the mine has closed for the christmas break, I think its cheaper for them what with the resources crisis.
  14. Dave you cheeky sod :P I was on my last day of shift, about to fly out! Anyway, I still haven't found anywhere nice to take any pictures of the exterior but here's some just parked in the driveway. Been using it for one-two hours a day this week and I'm in love with it. Go Lift!
  15. As the title suggests, I sort of went and bought myself a new toy this year. Just last week I found a 2001 Celica Sx at a local caryard for $17,990. Out of curiosity, I went in to have a looky. It'd done 56,000 K's, was immaculate and all the service log checked out. Needless to say I got it on the spot. I've only had a few hours of driving in it, as I flew back out to my mining job the night I purchased it, but I already feel the addiction to Lift. After wondering just what it's like for so long, all I can say is OMG I love it. I'll post up pictures when I get home. Oops forgot to add, its Mica Blue, and Manual transmission. I managed to get the entire thing free of govt charges too!
  16. Hey Simo, I'm looking at one myself. Going for the bright blue, just getting an Sr. I'd definitely say the diesel also. I work out at a mine and all the Landies and Hiluxs we use are diesel. Out on the middle of whoop, we still manage around 850~k. Servicing little things is cake, and the engine is very accessible for DIY. The new look Hilux is just a facelift, its out here right now. its basically the same as the old, but softer looking
  17. I'm putting my vote in for the Alpine Type-R. I was in just the same situation six months ago and ended up choosing the Type-R Splits for the front and 6" coaxials for the rear. Hooked up to the midrange 2 channel on 8 gauge wiring. Nothing but love for them so far. And as they've aged, I've noticed they can take that little bit more then when first installed... either that or they blew my ear drums
  18. The airconditioning unit in a motor vehicle is attached directly to the engine so yes, when engaged, it does drain a considerable amount of power. If you've ever been in an old Lancer (The oldies with the 4g15 engine) and put the aircon on doing about 100k, you can literally feel the slump in power. 69Kw to begin with FTL! I can't remember exactly who on the forum is in a 4runner/ Hilux now, but they should feel the same effect, I know my fathers 1995 model does it.
  19. Damn you have a sharp eye for headunits. Yes, it's the DEH-9850BT unit. Bluetooth handsfree, iPod deck, the lot. Got it for 600 when they were introducing the next years model. It's mated to 4 Alpine Type R speakers each being fed 100Watts by the Amplifier hidden under my passenger side. As for the painting I went the whole hog. Very mild sandpaper on the smooth pieces to get some decent grip, then two sprays of Plastic Primer. I left these dry for about 7 hours then started on coats of automotive exterior paint, every 30- 40 minutes, a total of four coats. I then left the lot for 24 hours and finished her off with 5 layers of clear coat. Tedious to say the least, but I fell in love with it the second I sprayed the colour on the bench to test!
  20. I should clarify, on mine I had to cut the wireframe out of the original fabric cover, it was sewn into the hem. as for Tayles, yeah it pops out of the clip easy.
  21. Yeah it sort of kills resale value, and if you ever decided to go back to stock you'd be in a tight spot. Thankfully, I'm not that concerned with either. The cars going to my gf at the end of the year when I bite the bullet and buy myself a ZZT-231. She likes it all, so everyones happy.
  22. With great difficulty! You'll find the genuine one is actually held in by a wire frame and clips on the underside. To put a new one in you need to destroy the original (!!) by cutting the wire out. You then get the new one (about 25~ at Autobarn) and use the wire frame to clip it in place.
  23. Hehe I had one of the guys at work ask me to blank the trip meter when I put in a new tank of fuel, as he's looking at getting a ZZE122 for the fuel saving (He's got and old v6 ute). I filled her up on CaltexVortex, and 650km later the fuel light came on. He was surprised to say the least, with me admitting openly I don't granny drive. I'll forever be curious as to how much I could get if I took it right to empty, and drove conservatively..... forever, because I'll never do it
  24. Tis me again, with the finished product. Due to issues beyone my control (F(*%-ing wind) there are a few small imperfections, but I'm still very happy with the result. I think it's akin to getting a tattoo though, you can't stop at one, I want to do more!
  25. Thanks guys Yeah I did know about the Sportivos being silver. I was originally going to go with a deep red to match the interior styling, but then I thought the silver would go well also. I'll put pics up tonight with the installed result. Clearcoating = slow work.
