  1. The rattle is caused by either the VVT sprocket (should only occur on start up or idle), or the accessory belt tensioner. The fix for the tensioner is to replace the little damper. The second rattle will occur at low revs, usually on take off.
  2. The 7th gen Celica we got all had the same brakes through the whole production run. Don't rely on too much research from the USA as they had weird arrangements. Aust. never got DBW, never got air injection (but we did get the revised head), 2zz only, all the same brakes. Other than the variable lift, there isn't anything special about the engine, so is easy enough to work on. Many mechanics are put off by the variable lift however, so be sure to find someone with experience with them. That said, the engine is pretty strong. As for which model, it depends on what you want. The SX is the lighter of the two versions, ZR is the top spec. SX didn't get ABS or sunroof unless optioned. Otherwise there is no real difference between the two.
  3. I assume it's for the track? If so, skip the green and get something better. GSL is also very quick and well priced.
  4. I wouldn't bother with the half tank method. 30L is about 22kg, and you'll soon tire of filling 'up' twice as often. As for carrying foam, unless you want to replace the rim after using it, don't bother. Skip the racing condenser, they don't do anything.
  5. My guess is a spherical bearing is gone. If it is from the front, I'd say in the top mount. From the rear it'll be in the lower mount.
  6. Just be careful of low tyre pressures allowing the bead to be peeled off of the rim. It happens. 30PSI hot is far too low for a street tyre, I run my semis at that pressure. Keep it above 36PSI and should be fine.
  7. Calling it a Bride replica seat doesn't change the fact it's built like crap. The Bride name carrys a bit of JDM y0 tax, so don't forget to look into the other brands like Recaro/Sparco/Cobra for cheaper prices. It is also best to test fit the seats, as they are slightly different shapes and you may not fit a sight unseen seat, and forever hate it because it hurts your back on long drives or something. My seat is more comfortable than the factory seat; for me at least. If anyone else is going to drive the car, it is also a good idea that they test the seat out. Propoer bucket seats (fixed back, not reclining) for men are a different shapre than those for women.

  9. Bride make the rails you're after. They do a superlow version too, whether it is legal in Australia is up to your auto engineer to decide. All the big name brand seats like Sparco, Bride, Recaro should fit the Bride rails; but check as they do give you the mounting width. Also keep in mind there are side mount and bottom mount seats, so you need to correct rails to suit.

Although it degenerated (of course) I recently explained on the Aurion forum, that I stopped using aftermarket panel filters in my corollas due to unusual oil analysis results (high silicon levels). Then there is the fact that no car that I’ve ever heard of has actually benefited in performance from an aftermarket panel filter and the question is why bother? If you want my tip just use genuine air filters and replace them regularly so that they stay clean… My UOA also showed higher silicon readings with a K&N panel filter as opposed to Toyota panel filter also.
  11. You'll need to think about what you want to do between the PPE extractor and the ported manifold. Porting the manifold is done to the stock exhaust manifold. The PPE extractor already has larger pipes. As for the pistons it is a tear down job. The engine will have to come out, so you may as well add anything else internal you may wish to do at the same time. What cat do you have now? The stock one, or an aftermarket one of some sort? If aftermarket, what is the pipe diameter?
  12. 440cc injectors and 190L/h pump are overkill on an NA 2zz, only really needed once you are using the DD intake manifold. PPE extractors don't throw any lights, but they aren't local. If you want a local one it will have to be custom made. PPE also make off the shelf mid pipes, which can save you the bother of driving to the exhaust shop, without an exhaust, to make the new mid pipe. You'll need to order the correct one as there are three different options. Being an 05 I'll assume original engine, so you'll need the air injection block off tabs on the flange.
  13. What can you install yourself out of that list? PFC needs tuning, so that will require another $600 odd on top. Cams, you need to know what your doing here. PPE extractor, a bit of effort to install, and will require a new mid pipe anyway, so extra money there. So basically left with CAI. Plenty of info on brands if you search.
  14. All the ZZE corollas came with them, except for the Levin from memory. Can't help you out with suppliers, but you can try your luck at wreckers but they tend to get badly damaged in frontal accidents. Toyota price is a rip off too.

  17. You didn't test drive a couple of cars before your purchase? If you think the market wanted a 5 speed auto with a 2L engine, why didn't you buy one, vote with your feet and such? I still don't know why toyota didn't bring the Blade here when it was in production. 3.5L Corolla would be a weapon, especially with the 2GR-FE. Toyota's market research is poor at best.

Each test is $33 from memory, includes the postage of the sample, no idea if there is a postage cost to send the kits to you as I always pick them up in person when I'm in the area.
  20. The sluggishness you're feeling is caused by the increased intake temperature, nothing to do with the oil temperature. I've got a 19 row oil cooler on my car and it is over kill on the street, I have it blocked off. I even have an oil thermostat. The Sportivo actually comes with a factory oil to water cooler, it sits between the oil filter and the block. As for if you need more cooling capacity you'll need to determine what your oil temperature actually gets to. I've found the sump temperature is pretty close to oil temperature (makes sense). Oil temperature is also pretty close to oil temperature. If you buy one of those outdoor weather stations for like $20-30 and tape the probe to the sump, you can get a pretty good idea for cheap. If your oil temp is getting over 130*C then there is an issue. Oil starts to oxidise above 120*C from memory. You'll be surprised at how, even on the hottest days, you still won't get near 120*C. As for oil choice, 5w30 for summer time should still be fine. But adding an oil cooler won't reduce the sluggishness of lift, as that is an intake temperature issue.
