  1. Drove into the work car park on Monday to see a nice red TRD Aurion in there and parked next to it. Tracked down who owns it so will be pestering him soon to get a ride.

Only thing is I start holidays today so it will have to wait a month. He traded in an SS Commodore for it and said he likes it much better then he ever liked the commodore.

Well IMO its kinda a wrong comparo, TRD would be the HSV equivilent, so on a price level it should be compared to a Clubsport R8 in the 60K price category.

In that case I would take the R8...

i would too if compared to the r8 but if the aurion was awd, trd all the way.

  2. 35k drive away with leather for an SX6? I Don't mean to sound sceptical but I find that extremely hard to believe <_< . I just paid 40k for my silver ZR6 with moonroof (fleet price) which I will be picking up next week and the dealer assured me that they were actually making a loss on the sale (I guess they make it up somehow by reaching their sales quota for the month). I'm going to put 19" on the car immediately - helps that I work for a wholesaler of Tyres & Wheels cause I get them at cost. Going to put these on there, what do you think?

    post-5934-1199001696_thumb.jpg

    oh man, they look sweet!!

35k could be for a dealer model,

is there a speaker upgrade option for the aurion zr6???

  3. There is some sort of vacuum operated butterfly valve in the air intake. Im assuming that this only opens under heavy acceleration. Was thinking about ditching the butterfly. Some sort of custom made funnel that directs air from behind the grill up to the intake would surely increase flow into the airbox. The size of the air intake is quite small so any way of diverting more air into it would surely be a benefit to the huge bore throttle body.

The stock toyota filter looks pretty restrictive and there is also another filter in the top of the airbox before the throttle body. I think increasing the air flow to the box on the standard set up is the best way to go.

without a supercharger or turbocharger forcing extra air under pressure into the engine increasing the air flow capacity to the engine will do nothing at all. The vac butterfly is for warm air on cold start and works well without causing enough of a restriction to worry about with any non supercharged engine anyway. this whole CAI business is an aftermarket accessory rip off using dubious science and dodgy claims

Are you sure this is just for warm air? I have worked on a couple of V6's in the past, and discovered on one of them in particular, it has a total of 3 butterfly valves in the intake. One for the main throttle, and another 2 at different places in the intake which open at different RPM points. The idea was called "VLIRS" I think it was, meaning Variable Length Intake Resonance System, which relied on intake air resonance to improve torque at certain points... and this was on a 1.8L V6 (Mazda Eunos 30x). If you accelerated hard, at about 4000 RPM there would be a sudden huge boost in performance, where it would then fly up to about 6000 RPM, where it would open the second valve, which would then give another huge boost up to 7000 RPM... it was incredible!

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if this system exists in the Aurion, as a number of modern V6 engines have this feature.

it could work with the aurion but whos got the balls to try it :)

  4. congrats. looks awesome. it will look even better when its lowered :) btw arent your lights looking too bluish for 4750k? or is it just the photos? i thought they dont appear bluish till 8000k

  5. i've got my 15000km aurion service coming up in a couple of weeks... so what kind of work should they be doing?

A bit confusion - the book says 7500 and 15000 - my sticker (after the first free service) says 10000 and my fleet manager also say 10000. Anyway I will book mine for 10000 to see the "real world".

    BH

mine has had its 10000km service last week. ive got to say the car is a bit more smoother and response is quicker which is a good sign and if you drive normally the car doesnt pass 2000 revs. before the service it use to be near 2000 or just a little over between gear changes but now the engine is even more relaxed. now i can rev it freely.

  6. Blah just say your car is in the panel beaters with a crack on the bumper and you need to replace it, I dont think they want to see evidence etc that you have a TRD lol.

yea, i believe you can do so with this way easy. just say you have crashed by someone from the back and need a new back bumper. If u r serious enough into buying 1, i am happy to ask my panel beater for price.(looks like fun)

an Aurion with TRD aurion bumper.. <_< interesting...

Yeah would be interested, the TRD front is much more aggressive and would look sweet with 20's and lowered a bit. I dont think it says TRD anywhere on the bar...?

zr6 sportivo kit imo looks better than the trd kit. gold zr6 with 19 black trds would look better than a normal trd aurion imo. i only like the rear diffuser of trd and thats pathetic as well as u can see the exhaust inside lol.

  7. I know the usual method of breaking in a brand spanking new car, is to take it real easy on the acceleration for the first 1000kms

just to make sure the engine is broken in and crap...

But i was speaking to a toyota dealer today who said that with the aurion that is not the case!

Aurions come already broken in so you don't have to spend your first 1000kms of your 200kw car driving like a grandma.

He even said that it might be a positive thing to open it up a little (being diplomatic for forum reputation reasons)

because the ECU remembers how you drive and adjusts accordingly...

    Can anyone confirm this??

Bottom line is I want to know if i can push the revs as soon as i get my brand new car that I've spent big $$$'s on. Or if I have to be really conservative with it until the first service?

i waited till 5000kms to break in. now she got out of her 10000kms service with thicker oil and new filter and now she runs like a beast.

  8. Update -

I received yet another email again from Toyota again dodging my request. I have asked many times to change my car over but all they want to do is keep trying to fix it.

So i called the Office of Consumer Affairs again this morning and told them i have had enough. I explained to the operator what has been happening and he could not beleive what he was hearing. Furthermore he was shocked to hear what Jarvis Toyota was offering in the way of a trade-in so i could replace the car with the exact make/model. He has sent out a "Request For Assistance" form and can't wait to read all the documented letters i have sent and received from Toyota/Jarvis Cars. I am certain that the OCBA will only be too happy to assist.

I am also calling the Ombusdman at midday today to seek their advice to the matter also. I am going all the way out now, i have had enough.

FWIW - The car is booked in for the 9th time and for the 12th day for rattles and airconditioner faults. What a bloody joke.

i cant believe what im reading. bluesx6 i can understand how ****** you must be feeling about this but i believe the way your pushing it, your going to get what you want. dont take your foot off the accelerator till you get your replacement. sooner or later, i believe you will get the good news :)

  9. Speaking of which in contrary to the drive articles, I had funny noises in the car the other day each time i accelerated and took teh car for the complementary 1000k service, its fixed now. The serviceman said someone didnt do a good job of assembling, as some parts werent put in place properly.

but with all that fixed I notice a different engine note then what was in the beginning when I first bought the car. the car has a light diesel engine sound when on idle and slight gets louder as i accelerate, im not sure if this is normal or not....

mines like a sex machine. everytime i turn it on, it makes my girlfriends hair go back and i feel like ...n her there.

it must be because you go up to 240 all the time and your such a good driver :P

thanks for the compliments buddy but only if i lived in germany then i would speed all day like you. :P

  11. hahaha you guys kill me. atleast the thread becomes interesting. i would join but im not qualified. if i ever go track driving one day, you guys are all welcome. i'll teach you guys a little :P tomorrow im taking my zr6 to her first service. thicker oil, check on the pads and time for premium fuel :)

  12. Looks sweet. Been thinking about doing this to mine but insurance is then an issue. Who are you insured with if you don't mind me asking. Alliance won't insure a lowered car.

    Steve

AAMI. No questions asked. I told them i lowered it and added mags and tint. They said ok.

As a matter of fact i got my renewal yesterday. Insured for 40k. $813.

Age might be an issue if you are younger than 25. I'm old  33.

Im 21 insured my car for $50,000 and im paying $671

    With AAMI too

thats really good. im 19 atm turning 20 this month and i pay 895 yearly for the zr6 2007. which is still good compared to my age. when you call them up to say you have done modifications to the car, do they ask for receipts of the wheels and tyres etc?

  13. DkZR6, what's the tyre spec, ie. width, aspect etc.

Did it only really cost you $550 all up for rims, lowering, etc? That's pretty cheap!

How's the ride like? I've only got 16s on, and keen on getting 18s but worry about the harsher ride.

    Suspension was $550.

Ride is smooth, and controlled. I was also worried about having too harsh a ride, but even with 18's and lowered suspension the ride is not to harsh or stiff.

Wheels from memory were around $2100.

    Tyres are 235x40x18.

    Wheels are 18x8

    looks really nice. congrats

  14. Out of interest mine makes that loud clunk also and it only happens after you take off for the first time, in my case every morning.

mine also does it. but its not loud. maybe its a safety feature. it shouldnt be loud. on mine you can only hear it if you concentrate on the car making any noises on take off.

  15. hrm... these stuff seems sooo familiar, OH ya, when i was 18(now20), i said the same thing to my friend 30 yrs old+, until i had my first accident~ small, but awakens myself...

action is better than just talking, i can get on princess fwy at 160, i believe u can do it at 180+ easy, do it and take a pic, then let us know~ will b very happy for you.

    Good luck~

the place for that sort of action is the track. the car will see 230 240 easy so no need to risk it and drive ridicilously dangerously in australian roadds when there are tracks 30 mins away for the cost of a family meal
