  1. Now that I have nearly 3 tank fills I can say I am consistently getting 11.5l/100km city driving. If you throw a couple of unimpeded trips on the freeway then that drops considerably as I am getting around the 6.5 to 7l/100km at 100km/h. One thing I did notice is the consumption doesn't seem affected by load much. It doesn't matter if there is one person in the car or seven, consumption doesn't change much Thats the reason why diesels shine over petrol. If you did the same in the petrol you would suffer a large loss the more the load. My fuel "ave after refuel" resets after each fill. I have only filled once the fuel light is on. What I have also noticed is the fuel "ave after refuel" has been relatively accurate. When you consider the same petrol about town is getting up to 17l/100km the diesel is doing pretty well. Just wish it had a little more power :-( Thanks Doug
  2. I am seeing 12 to 14l/100km when driving up hills. I have just done my first refill and noticed that the trip computer is saying I had 8km left. When I filled it I could only get 133l in. That means its out by about 8.8% which is significant. I still had approximately 200km left of driving before it really was empty. I will report back my fuel usage each refill which will most likely be every 2 to 3 weeks.
  3. Yep it uses the OBD2 port. My VX has a different display to the GXL and I can reset the ave fuel usage and get new values which are kind of accurate. My instant fuel usage is a bar that increases and decreases. See pic
  4. If you take a look at http://scangauge.com.au/ they are in Queensland and very helpful. I have attached a pic of my fuel use today. This was for about a 20 min drive through heavy traffic
  5. You should be running 265 65 17 at between 36 and 42 PSI dependent on the load. I have fitted the scangauge to my car today and its shown some very interesting figures. Now bare in mind I was using this on my 4l v6 for many years and found vary accurate. City traffic fairly free flowing I got 7.6l/100km over about 60km. When cruising at 100km/h on the freeway I got 5.2l/100km and when doing 60km/h I got 4l/100km. Crazy I know but I will be able to confirm these figures after a few fill ups have been complete. I haven't really decided to use the Toyota's gauges prefer the scangauge as I can confirm that is real.
  6. 35 PSI sounds low. I am running my 18inch at 40 PSI. It would make some difference with lower pressures especially 5 PSI. I have been told the engine performance improves considerably at around 6000km plus. Good luck. I give an update once I have done a tank or 2 with the scanguage which is usually pretty accurate. Doug
  7. What do you consider short distances? I think the fuel reading vs real reading is due to the inaccuracy of the speedo. I have double checked mine and its approximately 3%. The consumption reading over short distances will be approximate but have you checked to see if the ECO light is on failry frequently? This would be a good indicator of the fuel usage. I will be connecting my scanguage soon to see what the true fuel usage will be. Stay tuned.
  8. Seems you may have an issue. I just came back from a 40km beach run and averaged 15l/100km with roof racks, full rear with 3 adults and running through soft sand. Averged 9.7l/100km return hwy driving at 110km/h. If i drive at 80km/h I can get down to 7.6l/100km. City driving pushes it up to 11.5l/100km. My old petrol city was 16l/100 and 14.5l/100km hwy driving at 110km/h. Ask if you can test drive one from the dealership for a few days to confirm if yours has an issue.

Go test drive the VX, GXL vs VX like chalk and cheese. You get what you pay for. Toyota always have a strong reputation for reliability which gives great resale. I purchased a 2016 VX 2.8l for 76k including towbar ,mats and tint. Servicing costs a lower than Europeans and parts cost lower as well.
  10. Hi Guys, I know JohnLynn and have just joined this group. I too have the 2.8l from 2016 and its a VX. I have done a city run peak traffic and found 9.7l/100km and then another same day 9.5l/100km. My speedo is out approximately 3% so that needs to be factored as well. I have only done 200km so far on mine and it seems like the engine performance is getting better every km. Will be doing a beach run tonight so interested to see how it goes with that. Regards cuda - cudestir for this group.
