  1. No its not a normal thing, its a fault, albeit a common one. I had my tranny changed under warranty after months of complaining about it. http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/inde...p;hl=trufflepig
  2. Yeah keep trying. Its seems this issue is being dealt with quite separately from the dealerships. Until a week or so before the changover, the dealership was trying to convince me it was ok. After months of reporting it as an issue, the first positive thing I heard was a phone call saying theres a trannny here for you, when would you like to book it in? It may be that Toyota are slowly moving through the fault logs from dealerships and addressing them all - lets hope that's the case.
  3. Well, the tranny has now been replaced and the thing is great...no flaring at all. Again, thanks to Peter Kittle Toyota for sticking with this throughout.
  4. This guy has the right idea. If you don't care about push button starts, and don't need help parking your car :P , then why pay for them? And if you're going to be modding the car anyway, theres a good chance you may debadge it - so why worry about the badge either? Add whatever specs you think you can't live without to the SX6, then compare price. I have a ZR6 and like it a lot. I love keyless entry and start, I hope that I'll never have to use a key again (which limits me a bit to Toyota or Bugatti Veyron ) The park assist has saved my rear bumber once. We were at the Good Guys Parafield and someone had parked in the dark behind me with a trailer. Visibility isnt that great out the back of the car, and I doubt i'd have spotted it anyway, the trailer being quite low. I also like the leather which of course can be optioned on other models.
  5. Woohoo!! After 9 months of ownership and constant reporting of the problem by me, out of the blue today the service manager rang and asked me when I would like to book it in to have the transmission replaced I should add that at the 15k service recently I reported the usual rattles and squeaks, and when I picked it up they told me "Ok we had the dash out of your car and fitted a kit that fixes it all". I nearly fell over. Well done to Peter Kittle Toyota, Salisbury, Adelaide
  6. Trust me, its not a leaf. The registers rattle when they are pointed straight ahead - there's a "null" spot and nothing is holding the vents firm enough. Prolly a build up of tolerances issue, but a design fault for sure. The work around is to slightly adjust the direction of the vents - it seems to hold them better (firmer) and they dont rattle. Edit: Should have read the full thread...its well covered before :(
  7. I have had a few (minor but annoying) problems with my ZR6... The Leaf Sound. First time the service team said they "removed a leaf"... sorry but I dont think so. The second time I went back the tech pulled the vent/clock/speed alert assembly out of the dash in front of my eyes and poked around a bit behind it. When I returned to pick it up he said that he tried another assembly in the car with the same result. He diagnosed this: that when the vents are left in the centre neutral position they are loose in the fitting, hence (with mine) any fan speed above 30% will rattle the louvres. The work around is to leave them deflected slightly...seems to solve the rattle. He added this also, that the assembly is on order from Japan and might leave the manufacturer in December, so we should see it in the new year. My advice is this (for what its worth) - keep on top of your service team...insist that they send a problem report to Japan. This does two things 1. Raises the issue at the decision making level - seems Toyota Australia dont decide anything concerning these issues 2. It gets you on the list for action - it was implied by the tech I spoke to that car problems are dealt with in the order the problem reports are lodged with Japan. Squeaks and Rattles I get a reaction from the dash every time I go over a bump...not bad enough to warrant pulling the dash out in their opinion. I can live with it if it doesnt get any worse. The armrest used to squeak really badly - has fixed itself. The glove box doesnt seem to shut very securely and could be a source of rattles. Tranmission Flare As posted elsewhere, transmission flare has been logged and sent to Japan, so Im waiting for them to make a decsion and fix it. Therefore everyone who has this problem needs to get their dealer to send a report to Japan All up the car is great to own and drive. I get a detail every time it goes there, so they are making an effort to keep me happy with the service. Time will tell if these things are resolved in my favour but we can all help each other with the common things by making sure they are reported to Japan via the dealership.
  8. Yeah I agree - 7km is what mine had on it when I picked it up - its done a total of production test, drive to car park at Altona and then on to the truck then off the truck at the dealership. Bad luck to some prospective owner
  9. Progress update on the transmission issue. I left the car with them again last night and turned up this morning for another transmission-problem-demo-drive. This time I drove and the tech plugged in the computer to log the drive. He programmed a 5 minute recording session and off we went. As expected, the tranny flared about 500 rpm between 3rd and 4th. After the drive he downloaded the data and showed me the deal on the laptop. Here it is: A few explanations: Green line: Throttle position Blue line: RPM Red line: Road speed Black steppy line: Gear selected (was in D for this drive) The first thing he noticed is that the data told us the car was in fourth gear when the flare occured. This wasnt my experience, but it was interesting in that the ECU had told the trans to change but it hadnt happened yet. The elapsed time between the black steppy line on the graph indicating 4th and the flare beginning is about .6 of a second. The whole thing was over in about a second and a bit, enough time for the rpm to spike as indicated. This was a mild skip - maybe due to the fact that the nights are a bit milder these days. So far the data is being sent off to Toyota for their ruling on it...what can I expect from them? I cant see how they could argue this is normal cold engine regime, but hey, stranger things have happened.... Cheers Pig
  10. When I dropped mine off this morning the tech said they were removing a strip from the back of the dash - designed, he said, to stop dust and things falling down behind the dash. Seems its also a known issue. "New model" he said.
  11. Any luck? No news yet - the tech went for a drive with me this morning when I dropped it off. Naturally we couldnt replicate the fault as it was already warm, so they decided to keep it overnight. Its cold tonight - I hope it plays up big time He did mention however that Toyota reckon its part of the warm-up cycle and that it was common across the range. I pressed him on it as it sounded like rubbish to me...when I explained that it was sometimes a second at least (which at normal modest acceleration gives a significant and very unprofessional flare of about 1000 rpm) he said "No that sounds like a fault". It didnt happen when I first got the car and it didnt happen when I had an SX6 for a couple of days on a test drive. I think I could mount an argument that its a safety issue - in traffic you need to be in gear, not poking around on the accelerator pedal wondering when it will engage 4th. Anyway I'll keep you posted.
  12. I think you missunderstand what Im saying - it seems to shift harder when driving in D - most likely due to the cold shift strategy ie holding a few more revs when cold. Odd really, I would think it would short shift when cold... As for the flaring being a "feature", that is the sort of cr@p that some service people roll out to deflect car owners form the truth. Flaring 1000rpm between any gear in any driving mode is not a feature, its an error. When I booked the car in I asked of they would expect to see an error code relating to this sort of behaviour or have to see the baviour. Initially they said they would have to see it, but I told them they would'nt as I'd already driven to the dealership and it would have warmed up and they wouldnt see it. They then admitted they would look for a fault code. Features dont produce fault codes. Its booked for tomorrow, I'll let you know how I go. The Pig
  13. Hi All I am a bit concerned at the behaviour of my ZR6 transmission when cold. Firstly, it shifts a bit harder when cold - is that normal? I expect so but am not certain. Tha main issue is this - changing from 3rd to 4th when cold the transmission "misses", or hesitates to select 4th, resulting in a moment or two in between gears, ie in neutral. Once the gap was big enough for me to get two stabs on the accelerator before finding 4th. My wife - who is not car savvy shall we say - said "thats not good..." This is a problem - has anyone else experienced this? I am setting up my first visit back to the dealer this week (about 4k on the clock). Naturally I will ask them to look at it. Does anyone know if I should expect a fault code on the computer if they plug in the diagnostics? I have a feeling they will take it 'round the block and say "Nup, we couldnt find it" but if there's a code to read then no argument (hopefully). Any advice welcomed, Cheers The Pig
  14. Yep me too...the ZR6 has about 4k on the clock now and occasionally I hear a squeak from the dash. FWIW, the centre armrest used to squeak unbelievably when I rested my elbow on it - on the road the small differences in pressure from road undulations would make it constantly squeak - extremely annoying. But guess what, its stopped completely in the last few weeks, so I put it down to a minor manufacturing issue which has settled down itself. Back to dash noises, when I have the aircon on (blowing cold not hot, so it must be from the cold side) there is a very obvious rattle from inside the duct. It worstens when cornering in one direction (cant remember which now), which seems to indicate something loose in there somewhere. My most concerning problem is an issue with the transmission - see my thread. Cheers all, The Pig
  15. .Yeah thats the only way to get a pretty accurate reading. FWIW, I got an indicated 10.8 l/100km for my first tank in the ZR6, city only driving. IT only took 54 litres or so, so I think I can stretch the tank even though it indicates cruise distance to empty (think this was touched on elsewhere)
  16. Well, picked it up last Thursday - I had high expectations and I havent been dissappointed, the car is schmick. The quick delivery was explained "We found the car at another dealership and did a swap". Kinda happier with that than preferential treatment due to leaseplan. One thing though, the salesperson said I should bring it back for the walkaround at 5000km or 3 months, whichever happens first. I thought it was 1000km, did anyone else get 5000km quoted? I have to say a big thanks to Peter Brown at Kittle Toyota Salisbury SA for making the whole deal go as smooth as it did The Pig
  17. Whats the deal with paint care for new cars? I have read conflicting reports about the paint, such as 2 Pack paint marks easily, New cars need more protection these days New car paint is essentially still curing The dealer suggested a treatment for my new earth red ZR6, ranging somewhere in the region of $1300 for the whole 9 yards, inside and out glass-like protection and finish, to just $550 for the outside job. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it probably is daylight robbery. Anyway I guess some of the hype must have sunk in since I soon found Glare products on the net, which described very similar protection. Check it out here and here So has anyone used Glare products or similar? Whats the story with paint protection for new cars these days? Thanks The Pig PS Im not associated with either product
  18. Cant remember exactly when the order was placed - lets say the 17th May, but I pick it up this Thursday making the order-to-delivery time just over a month (and its been at the dealer a few days already). I am wrapped I have to say. I wonder if Leaseplan get any preferance? Cheers The Pig
  19. I thought the braces were for stiffening of the body - and they cable tied it ? Not acceptable in any circumstance - it must be returned to the manufacturer's design and nothing less On second read of your post Pacie, is it the boot spring or a stiffening bar?
  20. Seems like a fairly reasonable outcome to me. Used car dealers know ALL the angles and will argue that black is white when it suits them. Here's my (unhappy) story. A previous vehicle, lets say it was a Holden, was purchased under the often repeated criteria of "pedigree" and "owner history". This was mentioned every time I spoke to the salesperson, whom I thought I could trust (Mistake #1, Lesson #1, trust should never be a factor in used car deals). I had travelled the northern half of Adelaide trying to find someone who impressed me (ie wouldnt step over his burning grandmother to close a deal) and ended up at a country dealership. After looking at a few cars and finding one problem or another, they offered me what seemed at the time a vehicle that fitted all the criteria and looked great. Until I sat in the car, at least. The steering wheel was wrong, as was the radio/cd player. Weird. Of course they offered to swap said units from other cars..."No worries Sir, we can fix that". Umm, hmmm, well, ok I guess - by then the heart was working far better than the brain. (Mistake #2. Lesson #2, if there's something fishy in Denmark, then WALK AWAY) Test drive went well, aside from an annoying sound from the engine bay. "Yep, we'll fix that under factory warranty sir" So far so good. On second visit to dealership for the warranty repairs, the cheery service manager informd my wife (I was at work) that "You'll have to pay for that repair, and it looks like you should have payed for the last one as well", as he belted a stake through the heart of customer service. "No way, its under factory warranty" said the good wife. "No it isnt, Holden (lets say) has cancelled it" said the bad service manager. Long story short, the vehicle had been re-built from the firewall forward after a head on accident. I was certain that independant bodies (such as lawyers, ombudsmen etc) would side with me, even Holden (lets say) Customer Service when they find out what dealers are doing to the corporate reputation (Mistake #3. Lesson #3 if no laws are broken, you're on your own mate). A protracted letter campaign ensued. I insisted that the vehicle be swapped for an equivalent. "Very hard to find an equivalent sir". "well are you trying or not?" "Oh yes very hard sir". Eventually Mr Used Car Manager fronted up at our residence with a "replacement" vehicle. "Shall we go for a drive sir?" "Im not going near it till I know what the deal is". So he sat at our kitchen table, gave the company line, and asked for our car plus another $6000 for the replacement. What galled me the most is that he kept saying it was a fair deal, and couldnt understand my frustration and reluctance to fork another $6k over to the dealership for essentially the same car. The message was loud and clear "We dont want you sir, now or ever, to come back here" Hence the order for a new ZR6
  21. Almost bang on $40K for ZR6 with roof, darkest legal tint, heavy duty towbar, mats, bonnet and headlight protectors. Dont know how that stacks up against others but I am happy with the deal :D
  22. I thought it might be useful to some looking to get a car through Leaseplan (and this experience may extend to other companies as well). It doesnt necessarily follow that a lease company's preferred supplier will get you the best deal. I have just had an Aurion ZR6 order placed with my own dealership and I think I got the better deal. The issue is that preferred suppliers have enterred into an agreement with the lease company for the price of everything. When I started to negotiate with dealership A (the preferred supplier) I was told that they couldn't throw in extras like mats and headlight protectors because the price was set in the agreement and if they tried to undercut other suppliers it would break the terms of that agreement. Essentially all preferred suppliers will stand shoulder to shoulder with dealership A and the quotes are dollar for dollar the same. Fleet discount is also set as part of this agreement, and they wont (cant?) budge. Dealership B however - the non preferred supplier - competes for your business on the "open" market and is happy to include some extras to place themselves ahead of the rest. They also offered (didnt have to ask for it) $1300 better fleet discount. The whole feel of the negotiation (if you could call it that with dealership A) was different. With dealership A I got the impression that they just turned the handle and expected me to roll over - dealer B made some effort. Anyway hope this helps. Leaseplan have no problem at all with you going to non preferred suppliers and it seems the difference can be felt in the wallet.
  23. Leaseplan placed an order (at LAST ) for a red ZR6 with the dealership this week and delivery is expected end June early July - havent got a date yet. Car will come with sunroof, so about six weeks for a fleet vehicle with roof is what to expect currently. This was good news, since (as has been quoted here many times) Presara and ZR6 are in hot demand. My salesperson was hinting that it would be a factory order which means 12 weeks Im glad it didnt turn out that way BTW how does the tracking of cars in build work?
  24. Its not - apparently its going to be 235Kw "only" - maybe 250 Kw was too much of a handful in reality. They really need to think about part time AWD as in other platforms IMHO
  25. This is the one that really cracks me up. I had the fortune (good or otherwise, Im still not sure) to visit Riyadh recently and I can say from personal experience that they are all nuts on the road. They sit on 140 on main roads, dont know what the indicator is for, squeeze 5 wide accross 3 lanes at traffic lights etc. If you choose the fast lane keep one eye on the rear view mirror as there will invariably be someone glued to your bumper before long. You let them pass and notice that they are sending SMS as well. I have see police cars get flashed out of the way in the fast lane - it sure is an experience
