My map DVD has never worked since I bought the car second hand. I keeps getting rejected. I was told this is a common problem where a tooth is missing from a cog. Now the whole system has shut down and nothing works. Coincidentally this happened just after my son in law installed a new alternator. I enquired at Toyota Katherine for the cost of an aftermarket unit and they quoted $1500 installed. If I pull the unit out can I still drive the car? Can anyone advise the best affordable replacement for this unit please?
