whats the difference between an 05 and a 06 diesel motor we just bought a 06 hilux and a mechanic said its got an 05 motor in it

Hi, got a problem with a 86 tarago, fuel injected, motor spluttered then stopped, i think there is a electric fuel pump in the tank, the filter is bolted on the side of the motor I cant hear any buzzing fuel pump sounds, does anyone know if there is a relay or fuse for the fuel pump and where they would be? whats the easiest way to get to the pump, do i have to drop the tank or is there a inspection hole in the floor pan? Could there be any other problems i should look for? thanks
