  1. You could also try "Union Shopper" if you are a union member. If it was me, seeing the way prices are at the moment, I'd be aiming for a drive away price of $30k if not less. Also, try local dealers to see if anyone has one in stock in the colour/s you want. Dealers seem to be even keener to do a good deal on cars if it's sitting in their yard.
  2. Don't hold out, who is this guy and where does he work? Does he take trade ins? ;)
  3. Redbook prices are generally for a vehicle with no options. According to redbook, it seems the only factory options were sunroof or nav, so if you've got those add a bit onto the price indicated. However, don't fall into the trap of thinking that because you put some mods onto your car that your car is now worth significantly more. Often it is quite the opposite, unless you're lucky enough to find someone who appreciates what you have done and can see the value in it.
  4. You can probably ask a few officers in the QPS how comfortable they are, as I have seen an unmarked Evo X pulling someone over on the south-east freeway near Greenslopes.
  5. IMO a relatively new second hand vehicle (<3 years) being under lease is pretty much par for the course these days. As long as you do your REVS (or equivalent) checks and make the cheque out to the financier, I don't think it's anything to be wary of. Just as another guide as to pricing, looking through the local paper a Toyota dealer up here had new '08 plate ZR6's for $36,990. I'm sure with cash in the hand you could get an even better deal than that. These sorts of offers make a second hand example even less appealing unfortunately.
  6. Have you had a look at the sites that give indications as to car sale prices (redbook, glass's, etc)? Alot of people don't agree, but I think red book is pretty close to what the real world prices are for sale prices (which is very different to advertising prices). REDBOOK 2008 ZR6 PRICE GUIDE Seeing as how your mileage is a bit above average (while ignoring car condition and vehicle history) I think for a private sale I'd advertise at $32k or $33k and be prepared to go down to around $31k.
  7. Have you tried Jaycar? Jaycar link 1 If your handy with wiring something like this may be even better Jaycar link 2
  8. In 2007 I got our manual ascent hatch with metallic paint, mats, safety pack, and luxury pack (cruise, steering wheel audio controls and leather steering wheel and gear knob) for $22,500 drive away. Today for a similarly equipped ascent auto, I wouldn't want to pay more than that. As has been said, get the car you want now, as it costs a lot more to get the parts to up spec (if you even can) later on. I wish I had done that when I bought mine :(
  9. Don't be cheap. Everyone knows that leaf blowers are where the real power is! Civic powaarr
  10. Sounds like heat soak. The heat builds up under the bonnet and soaks into the materials of the intake manifold, intake pipe etc. This in turn raises your intake air temperature which will cause a drop off in power. I have heard stories of guys at the drags having bags of ice sitting on the intake manifolds on their commodores while they wait for their run down the 1/4. Could also be that your auto learns your driving style, then when you change it (your driving style) abruptly, it doesn't learn as fast as you want it too.
  11. I got quoted $950 for one this week from Auspack (which included "free" freight to brissy). They look the goods, and I am seriously tempted to start saving for one, but after doing some digging I have a few reservations. I am yet to find on the net someone who has actually installed one (it's never good being a full paying guinea pig). This means that the only pictures I have seen are of foreign Corollas (possibly photochops), so I don't know if the plastic colour or button back lighting colour will be as per oem (which is important when your trying to get that factory fitted feel). It seems that some have been having trouble updating the GPS software/maps with the VW Golf units, due to the age of the firmware/os. Where the heck can you fit the reversing camera on a Corolla without hacking up metal or doing irreversible damage to plastic bits? Supposedly, Auspack will only honour the 1yr warranty if you have the unit professionally installed? This adds another few hundred dollars onto the price, and seeing as I am a keen DIY'er I wanted to install it myself. These few things have made me put getting one of these on the backburner for now.
  12. I emailed them this week about the corolla unit and got quoted $950 with free delivery to Brissy. I guess we can thank the plummeting Australian dollar for the price increase. :(
  13. After reading in the Aurion forum about the Auspack DVD/GPS/TV/Bluetooth/reversing camera unit, I went and had a look at their website. It shows a unit for the corolla which is supposed to be plug and play (see here for more info). It looks the goods, has heaps of features, and I hope it fits ZRE152R's, but I have emailed the guy twice and he still hasn't gotten back to me For integrated GPS, other than a small car PC like these, you're looking at something like THIS which is going to cost a heap more (~$2500?) but it is a very good quality unit.
