  1. Bumping this thread because i also am curious to know what the solution is...
  2. Anybody know a garage or mechanic shop that specialises and know their way around these engines, clutches and gearboxes? Or if you personally have any mates that know what they're doing with these cars please let me know. AS LONG AS THEY ARE IN SURROUNDING SYDNEY SUBURBS (preferably South Western Sydney). Thanks!
  3. Thanks for the input, Squalled. I do plan on tracking the car in the future. Just need a few upgrades such as Moroso oil pan, MWR Billet Oil Pump Gear Set. Wouldn't the extended pushrod help with the constant hard/quick gear changes at high RPM?
  4. Thanks for the help, guys. I guess I can skip gears every now and then when I need to quickly overtake or slow down for a sharp turn, but other than that I suppose there would be no real reason to. As Squalled mentioned, I also saw something similar somewhere on the internet about the Sportivo/Celica gearboxes being fragile and what-not so I thought I'd ask here.
  5. Just wondering if it's okay to skip gears while driving the 2zz, for eg. 6th->4th, 4th->2nd, etc. OR 1st->3rd, 3rd->6th, etc. I tried it today this morning and accidentally went from 6th to 2nd but quickly managed to clutch-in at 6.5krpm. Does it wear synchros or clutch? Is it totally fine to do so? Or is it best not to skip gears at all?
  6. She's a beauty 😍 i've honestly got to try some of that Bowden's Melt Down stuff, that sounds pretty useful
  7. ahh, cheers matey. that gave me some peace of mind LOL. Legend 👍
  8. Thanks for the help, Tony and Squalled. I drive my car every day, I do drive it hard often but am also careful with my shifting. No limiter bashing or flat shifting or anything like that, just upshifting at 8k rpms when I want to have some fun. Clutch seems to be fully engaged when clutch pedal is all the way down (using Exedy HD), although I find myself having to use a little bit more strength to get it into 2nd when in lift. Would I still need to buy the extended pushrod?
  9. I've heard from friends, YouTube, forums, etc. that the Sportivo gearboxes are extremely notorious for crunching gearboxes. It's now got me paranoid. Right now my gearbox drives like a dream and runs smoothly. For what it's worth, I've got a 2005 model and I'm not sure if Toyota revised the 2zz-ge engine and gearbox from 2003 and 2004. What are some preventative measures I should implement to keep this from happening to me in the future? Is it worth investing in a MWR synchro set? Cheers.
  10. Hi all, Wanting to purchase some wing tips for my beloved tivo (facelift model). Silver would be preferred but willing to accept any colour right now, as I can always respray later. Will pay good price. Thanks. +Bonus points (and money) if you have facelift eyelids also.
  11. Car looks mint 😀 Diggin' the documentation bro, keep it up 👍 Keen for the next update
  12. I've been seeing tivos with extended pushrods installed on their clutches. My questions are - What exactly does it do? And how might this help performance and shifting? Is it worth the purchase? Or should I keep it stock? Thanks for any input guys
  13. Ended up telling the guy over the phone that I spoke to Exedy Australia over the phone, and that the rep told me that the TYK-7334HD is designed to handle the 2zz engine whereas the TYK-6932HHD is meant for the 1zz. The clutch guy asked if I then wanted to order the TYK-7334HD instead, to which I replied with "yes please". Got there the following morning, left the car there for several hours and came back to collect it. Upon checking out, he quickly wanted to show me how the TYK-7334HD and the TYK-6932HHD clutches were EXACTLY the same. He said that the same specification number on the clutch disc or whatever matches the other clutch. I just pretty much said "yeah, ok" and left it at that. I think despite his claims I will continue to use the TYK-7334HD in the distant future.
  14. **** yeah, was hitting lift everywhere today, feels so good haha
  15. Thanks, Tony. I received a quote from Western Clutch Services this morning. I specifically asked for clutch number TYK-7334HD, however he returned saying he only had TYK-6932HHD in stock and that they were interchangeable, and also cheaper. I asked him if he was absolutely sure of that, he said "yes". Does anyone know if this is factual? Ended up quoting me $1,240 for part, labour, flywheel machining and gearbox oil.
  16. Did not try the cleaning method, I just assumed remote died. Went to another Mister Minit store, he explained that my only option is to buy a custom key fob with a new remote with cut key to match. He then stated that he will program it to my car for free.
  17. Thanks, Tony. Bought my stivo a few days ago with 185k on the clock and am anxious on the future. I have a similar noise happening with my engine that OP posted. I just assumed it's inevitable with old engine age.
  18. Last week I bought a Sportivo that needs a clutch replacement. I'm looking at the Exedy HD Clutch (TYK-7334HD) kit. Where can I buy these in-store? Shipping takes a while and I'm looking at replacing the clutch ASAP. Also looking for good garages to do the installation for me. Anyone able to help me out? I'm located in South-West Sydney, NSW. Also, if there are any other alternative clutches to use instead of the Exedy heavy duty, please let me know!
  19. Ok, just updating my own response here in case. I brought my keys to Mister Minit today. Battery was not an issue. It was the actual remote inside my key. They offered to make a custom key fob for me. I said no. Now I just need to source out an OEM sportivo remote.......
  20. Calling the attention of sportivo owners and audiophiles! Last night I bought a bone stock '05 tivo. I think it's in 'ok' nick considering it's dones 185xxx kms on the clock. Obviously the OEM headunit is still attached. Does anyone have any suggestions on which headunit will fit this car? One that also provides great sound quality as well as not being 'too flashy'. My previous tivo had a really bright blue display, and driving at night it was a bit too bright for me. MUST HAVE aux input! Bluetooth is not necessary but would be nice.
  21. Thanks guys, do you think hitting LIFT at least once or twice every drive counts as thrashing?
  22. Have you always had this issue? I bought a second hand '05 tivo today in which the remote central locking wasn't working (not sure when battery was replaced). I then proceeded to try and lock it manually, but it was so stiff I thought I had the wrong key for a second! I eventually got it to work manually. Just needed some extra force was all, but not too much to snap the key in half whilst in keyhole. I guess the keyhole was stiff due to not being used for a very long time...
