  1. I am the proud owner of a 1998 Toyota Caldina ST215 GT-T auto wagon. Recently it started to miss fire under load and boost. I thought " spark plugs ", so being a tight ***** i bought a set of iridiums on ebay. It ran well for a couple of hundred k, then the miss fire came back. I thought cheap e bay plugs , so bought a set from the local auto parts shop. Same result , couple of hundred k and miss came back. I read somewhere that my prob could be a failing coil/ coils ( the coil on plug type) and a way to test that is to close up the plug gaps. I did this ( down to 18 thou in the old money ), and yes, it again ran well , but this time quite a bit longer ( about 1000k ) before the miss came back. Fuel filter is recently new, all vacuum lines seem ok, air filter is clean. BOV rattles a bit at idle, but its always done that. A friend suggested diss connecting the O2 sensor in the engine bay. I did this and it now runs real sweet and has been running ok for over 2000k. My fuel economy hasn't altered ( around 10/11 litres per 100k) What to do ?..... Get a new O2 sensor and try it or just leave it as it is. Could the diss connected O 2 sensor be hiding /masking something more sinister ? Any advice or thoughts appreciated.
