  1. Last august/september I found a lot of ex-Government Camry available for auction on Manheimfowles Melbourne, but recently the number has dropped. Is there a period of time during the year (like after tax return) when these cars are available in large quantity? What should I expect for the prices of these cars? About their trade-in prices as on Redbook? $2,000 lower than that? Thanks.
  2. He told me that many of the repos have been thrashed to death by their previous owners. There are many people out there that buy cars they clearly can't afford, and knowing that the car will eventually be repossessed, do not treat the cars very well. Well for Victorians, you could do a pre-purchase check of the vehicle in question through VicRoads so you can at least get some idea if there is money owing on the vehicle. This service is free and completely automated so it is available 24x7x365. Simply give it the license plate number and you'll get all the important info you need including the validity of the rego, the VIN and engine serial number! need to pay for that, not necessary for ex-government.
  3. Private auction normally the owner will get friends to go inflate the prices during auction. I wouldn't even bother.
  4. Private is worse, they only auction it because they can't sell them privately.
  5. Is that from government auction section or private? I don't trust the private section.
  6. Thanks for your advice they are very helpful, I will bring a friend who knows car with me. I am looking at Government Camry for around 10k, can be slightly more or less. I think nowadays they don't even allow us to start the engine. Do you think their road test can be trusted?
  7. I registered with Manheimfowles but they said the online bidding is online for dealers.
  8. I am thinking of going to car auction - manheimfowles in Melbourne. Anyone has any tips for going for car auction?
  9. I just got a call from Car Search Broker from Melbourne. Anyone dealt with them before, are they good? Has anyone dealt with a car broker before? I learnt that the best value for money is to wait until end of year when the overseas university students are going back home, then they will sell their car new, well maintained and cheap. Any other suggestions that are better?
  10. Can't afford to buy a new car, that's why looking for used.
  11. if you're about to start a family then you don't want to keep upgrading the car coz that's just a mess you might as well get the right car now... now i don't know about the new one's but i'm just going to tell you about the starlet (considered the old echo), the old corolla's and the old camry's... parts and servicing is the cheapest for the camry then the corolla and the starlet in last place... now i'm predicting that the same is going to happen to the 2004 vehicles in 7-10 years time... so i vote getting the camry (preferably the sportivo ;)) oh and do some research on the V6, they say... "due to the efficiency of the alloy V6 you get city fuel consumption of 9.5L" i think it's just a lil more than the 2.4L version plus u get all that POWAAA I wonder how accurate is the V6 fuel consumption, it's unlikely the case according to http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/cgi-bin/trans...a&year=2003
  12. I don't really have a big family now, but we are about to start a family. My only concern with echo is the safety rating, and looks like used Camry is offering pretty good value because of it's rapid depreciation. Anyway is echo cheaper to maintain? Like cheaper parts and labour etc?
  13. Do you drive mostly in the city or freeway? Is it manual or auto?
