  1. In Great Britain we find 10W 40 is best with petrol engined Toyotas (non Turbo versions) from the 1980's and '90s. However Rolla Boy is quite right, when an engine gets a little old/tired/ high millage then a change to 20w50 might be advisable.
  2. Ah so, the modern Sporty Corollas with rear disc brakes use a little drum hub within like Volvo and some Vauxhall (GM Holden). Good idea because older Corollas like the 80's GT's and GTi's that had rear disc brakes had a mechanism that 'clamps' the caliper and it does give problems sometimes in our damp climate. :(
  3. In Britain (and rest of Europe) there are quite a lot of Modified/customised Avensis's about. :)
  4. Yes, come on, any pics
  5. I don't think they have this problem in Queensland!!! :D :D Yes I just realised what I had said :D :D , but you should have been in Europe the last two weeks its been around -10 in the Daytime in some places :o
  6. Yokohama are great for grip and Yokohama AVS are amazingly great for Grip. Be supprised if you get more than 14000 mile out of them though. I fit Yokohama to all my cars it usually improves handeling straight away although they're not too good in snow.
  7. ...With regard to correct oil filter: In Britain this problem/question 'appeared' in the early 90's with the then current AE92 model range. One filter (short one) part number applied to 1300 '2E' Engine and 1600 '4A-FE' Engine. Other filter part number (Longer filter) applied to 16 4A-GE Engine in the GTi /FX16/ FX GT/ Levin. I myself pointed this out when the 'shorter' filter was fitted on my 1989 AE 92 GTi in 1995. I was informed "that it made no difference" Hmmm <_< I thought. However the following year the car was out of warranty so I do servicing myself or use a local freindly garage. When I went to my Toyota parts dept.(still use genuine parts) and asked for an oil filter I was handed ...the 'short' one. Apparantly either filter will do! This was back in 1996 its now 2005 and I've still used the 'shorter' filter and car still goes fine, if there was a problem I think after 10 years it would have done damage by now :D . So it looks like Toyota chappies were right.
  8. :D Being a pommy and living in 'pommy land' I find Auto-Glym best. many years ago I used Mer but when it went more commercialised it didn't appear to be so good. Have to agree about UV protection though, never have that problem in our damp and dull climate.
  9. Well said, A very good point. People have gone on in recent times that the thiner the better , but as you have quite rightly stated not when a car engine gets older.
  10. In Britain Toyota for years used to recomend DUCKHAMS 10w40 Semi-Synthetic in all none turbo'd cars under 2000cc
  11. Hi there I like the colour, we never had a 4dr 'hatch' in Britain. Only 4 drs are Sedan and liftback in my country. In Britain the Corolla Twincams (Model code AE92 with 4AGE Engines) were badged as GTi, what are yours 'Badged as' (I know some countries called them FX GT's)?
  12. A page from the UK 1986 Toyota sales brochure on the Corolla GT 'AE86' Coupe, with the ever popular 4AGE engine. There was also a version called the 'Trueno' which had 'pop up' headlights ...but alas we never had these offered to us in Britain (Officially :D) There's also a website dedicated to these cars based in Ireland http://www.twincams.co.uk They kindly posted my sales brochure pic on their site (and where I got the 'drifting' trueno picture from :) )
  13. So it isn't just main dealers on my side of the World that are shoddy. It appears you people suffer as well. In the county where I live there was 2 months ago a massive purge buy a well known consumer magazine on garages and it was discovered that the worst offenders were Main franchise dealers. The local none franchise garages were found to be more helpful and customer focused ...and found to actually do all the jobs/repairs required /charged for.
  14. I presume you are wondering if your headgasket is blown <_< If the car is taking a long time to 'crank into life' and is not performing well/loss of power when going up hills then i'd say it has (presuming you've checked sparkplug condition etc.) Plus what are you oil and water levels like is one dropping quite quick? also is the oil turning a sort of cream colour? As for 'steam'/condensation from the exhaust on a damp cold day this is not a certain sign of a blown headgasket. Also you did not say what version of Corolla or engine version you have?
  15. Oops, Yes you did mention about not getting two doors. I have another brochure i'll post soon on the 'AE86' Coupe from the 80's, which was only ever a 2 door and is very popular even today (despite it approching 20 years old) in Japan, Europe and America
  16. Found this wonderful website from a classic car show held in Japan. Is mainly old Japanese cars from the 1960's to early 80's. http://www.age.to/~hot_olds/n.h.o.a/2004.htm
  17. What a fantastic collection :) I really like the 'slot mag wheels' (thats what us brits call em) on the white Estate. :D Let the good times roll :D
  18. Hello everybody, Hope you don't mind but thought I'd post up a couple of pics from the 1982 UK sales Corolla Brochure to show what was offered to us 'Limey's ' 20+ years ago :D . I really like the SR Coupe, tragically they've virtually all rusted away in our climate :D :D
  19. Thanks people. I never knew that Why don't they import them? surely there must be a market. Oh my, thanks, other people from around the world have said that about the B roads, mainly motorcyclists. Didn't realise the roads were so well known ;) :D . If you know of 'Ironbridge' by the River Severn I live about a mile away and go down through that valley everyday on my drive to work.
  20. Just thought I'd say Hi from damp, cold, grey and rainy England :D I have two Corollas which I use regulary, The first one is a 1989 Corolla GTi (also known as FX GT/ FX16 in some countries) with the 4AGE engine; which I've owned for 12 years (which I've kept as original as possible). Picture was taken last September at a Jap car show held at a R.A.F Base in Shropshire, England. My other Corolla is a 1998 Corolla GS, which has had 'bits & bobs' added to it since I bought it in 2001. The picture was taken on the main Auto route into Paris during a motoring holiday round Europe. Sorry for quality of photos I really like some of the modified older KE 70 Corollas you have in your country (your dry climate must be a real asset to help keeping a car looking great) especially the ones with 4AGZE Engines 'shoved in em' :) . I've always 'messed' with vehicles over the years and always had an interest in Classic cars/oldtimers form the 1930's to 1970's (Your 'Horn' cars from the late 60's/early 70's are really ace :D ). Happy Motoring.
