  1. Just so you know... these are also available from Strathfield in a kit now with the spacers as well. I think a tad more expensive than that quoted for Strathfield... maybe 25 bucks or something off top of my head. I picked one up for the girls 99 corolla today.
  2. Speaking of rice.... here is a challenger from Germany http://www.autoextrem.de/showpost,p-703693,postcount-48.htm Not sure if thats been posted before... but what the hell.
  3. Sorry... been away with work... Tivo been sitting in garage. If i get a chance i will try take a couple before i go away again... but thats only a couple of days.... so i am sorry if i don't manage to get around to it for a little while... but i will eventually get them on here!!! :(
  4. Hmmm... ok, i stuffed up, i shouldn't have quoted the previous message. From memory i used a couple of small bolts and nuts. I haven't got pics at the moment... but i will try to get some... but anyway, used the four bolts (which mount flush and don't stick up at all) going down from top of the floor through amp and then held with nuts. (DUH!). Its solid enough for my liking and the flooring above tyre doesn't flex at all when you lift it to access spare tyre or access the amp. Anyways... i'll get some pics. The install could be done a lot better than what i did, but hey...
  5. I have mine mounted on the underside of the flooring in the boot (facing down towards the tyre) and have had no issues as yet. Cabling is easily hidden from here and it seems to have enough breathing room to keep it cool.
  6. How much is a Bluetooth GPS receiver? Are there phones out there that already have a GPS receiver built in? Bluetooth GPS receiver can be bought from as low as $80 on Ebay. Although many people don't recommend a bluetooth one as you will occasionally get connection problems and also the battery life problem as well. If you can get a USB then deffinately go with that as you don't need to worry about those problems. I use a USB one and it works absolutely fantastic on the laptop. As for Vietnamese voice, you will probably need to find a Vietnamese language pack. I've no idea if Handheld GPS units on the market today have Vietnamese voice built into them :( I don't think they do. Navman or TomTom, I don't think you can go wrong with either really. I have a Tom Tom One (Mark 1) and i love it. Its a simple unit and does everything i ask of it. I know people who have had Navmans (and i have used the 510 i think) and i simply find the tom tom easier to get around. I can't comment on the 530 as i don't even know what it is like. Buying a GPS is probably something that all depends on the user. From past experiences i have noted that the Garmin's have tended to have a few more features in their software (things like a track back feature and basic traveling statistics and things like this) whereas the Tom Tom doesn't seem to have this as standard issue as yet.... however there are add-on programs which perform things along the same line, although they are nowhere near high quality programs. The good thing with Tom Tom is that they release regular firmware upgrades with REAL feature additions. I mean it was only a couple of months ago that they released a firmware upgrade for their whole range (right back to the early GO's) that added the Tom Tom Buddy feature that allows you (via your phone) to see where someone else using a tom tom navigator is and navigate to them, or send them a location, message or for the higher models, pictures etc. Sure, not everyones cup of tea, but it was a big selling point for their new range and they followed through and released the update for ALL of their navigators losing a lot of potential customers wanting to upgrade for those features. NO i do not work for Tom Tom or anyone else, just trying to give you a view from my experience so far. (i have commented on my GPS somewhere else before in this forum). BTW, i don't know if the Navman 530 has it or not, but the thing that swung me most towards tom tom was the fact that everything is finger friendly on the Tom Tom, whereas on the Navmans at the time, everything was tiny and you had to use a stupid pen to get around most things.
  7. Well you can probably find a better price as i didn't look very hard but here is approx what i paid: Alpine Type S Sub: $169 Alpine Type R Splits: $295 Alpine V12 F345 Amp: $475 Sub Box - No idea.... standard sub box price? As i said, you can probably do better than that if you shop around a bit... but i was kind of in a hurry and those prices were all under RRP so i just grabbed them whilst i could ;) Cheers,
  8. Just an update to this - I went ahead and got everything i mentioned above. Had some fun installing everything (hardest thing was finding somewhere to mount the tweeters as the Type R's wouldn't fit in the stock position, so i pretty much mounted them through the existing tweeter covers. Hard to describe, but i am happy with how they look. The other drama i had was that the mounting positions on the type R woofers were slightly smaller than the existing mounting plate for the tivo, so the bolts and washers were pretty much useless as they were, so i just added a slightly larger plastic washer under it which done the job. (not sure why everyone mentions drilling out the pop rivets? It isn't really necessary if you are going to reuse that mounting plate as you can just remove the four screws holding the speaker in position and pull it out. Ummm what else, oh the amp is installed on the underside of the flooring in the boot. Not sure how it will go in there heat wise, but it should be ok considering most people install them under their seats. The amp fits perfectly under there and is well and truely out of the way (which means i can leave the cables looking messy for now ;). I was hoping for a slightly smaller sub box than what i got, but it didn't look very big when i saw it, then i put it in the car and realised how silly i was being. Oh well sounds pretty sweet and its actually more about the depth of it rather than the width so still got enough space for the smallish **** that ii carry. Will add some photos later of everything. Also ran the AV cable in for my Nomad Zen Vision:m which works sweetly - Damn i love the vision:m!!! Downside of the install, only two - I ran the battery flat (well flat enough that it wouldn't start despite everything still working :P) and the second being that i managed to knock a bulb free (i think from the cigarette lighter or something) and now i have a bright light at the feet of the passenger whenever i turn the headlights on! Oh well... job for another day! Anyways all in all, it sounds awesome now and there are no noticeable rattles so i am happy.
  9. Cheers dude. Do you or anyone else, know of anywhere in Sydney to pick up Alpine gear at a good price? I'd be looking for somewhere around the Hills district ultimately?
  10. OK guys, first off i HAVE searched quite a bit, but because audio is such a personal thing and everyone has different things they are after, i am starting a new thread. All i am after are some opinions on what i should go for in my audio upgrade. I'll start off with what i currently have: My HU is a Pioneer AVH-P5750DVD The rest is stock! haha Now for what i am after: I want a sub, but i don't need a massive sub pumping out too much power... so something smallish and low powered. Ultimately i would like to stick with one 4 channel amp and have 2 channels bridged running my sub and the other two powering some new front splits and the stock rears running off the headunit. (thats possible right?) Soooo to summarise i need: A 4ch amp powerful enough to run the new front splits and the sub A smallish sub (and box). A set of splits ------------------------- I was thinking something along the lines of: Amp: Still can't decide will the Alpine MRV-F345 do the job for the below? Sub: Alpine Type S SWS1222D - (do you think this will suit my needs?) Splits: Was thinking Alpine Type R SPR-17LS ? I'm not 100% sure on my audio stuff, so any replies would be good. Cheers,
  11. They just lowered the exhaust on mine. It sits about 4/5ths of the way below the bottom of the skirt but its enough to stop it from melting. I preferred that than getting the skirt cut.
  12. Just an add on to this thread, Another tick in the TomTom column is that they actually support their products. Today they released an update to pretty much their entire range offering further features and added functionality. The additional features aren't really minor either... they are quite considerable additions bringing the older models up to par with even some of their later models. I guess i am just impressed they have done this for the entire range, because a lot of companies wouldn't bother updating their older models in order to force people to update. PS - No i do NOT work for Tom Tom or any related company! haha just loving the updates... now if only they released free mapping updates ;) haha

Nice setup.... considered doing this for a while but just never got around to it.... have a few questions for you if you don't mind... When i was thinking about it powering the ***** was my biggest concern... What kind of setup do you have powering it up again? DC Power supply? When you say DC-DC power supply, are you talking like the exact same unit that usually comes with our PC except in 12V rather than 230/240v? (Similar to this: http://umart.net/au/product_info.php?cPath...ducts_id=103816 ) What rating is the power supply? Also have you done any testing on what kind of drain you are getting on the battery? Lol i was a little concerned about this because as you know the battery that comes with the car is pretty ***** weak. Have you noticed any affects on anything else within the car? What kind of Front End program you running? Is it sometihng you purchased or is it something freely available? Cheers mate! Sweet effort!
  14. I recently purchase a Tom Tom One. Whilst it is still larger than the navman it is smaller than the Tom Tom Go's which i am sure was being referred to earlier. The Tom Tom one has a new GPS Antenna that is highly rated. I haven't used it around Sydney CBD yet but have used it around Brisbane CBD and never even got close to losing the signal. Accuracy is pretty damn good. I used the navman prior to getting the Tom Tom and found that it was good, but after buying the Tom Tom i found that the Tom Tom displays everything i want to know (Current Time, Time You will arrive at destination, current speed, km's remaining, km to next turn etc all on the one screen without having to constantly touch the screen to change the display) All in all, having used both i am more than happy i chose to go with the tom tom even though it is bigger (BTW the Tom Tom One easily fits into the slot above the ashtray) and besides, the size isn't all negative, it all depends on what your preferences are. I mean because the Tom Tom is bigger you can actually use your fingers a lot easier and everthing is done this way, whereas with the Navman you have to use the pen for most of it the benefit being that you can carry it in your pocket a lot easier and inconspicously. If you do research on the Tom Tom One there were reports saying the speaker on it wasn't as loud as the Tom Tom Go's and whilst this MIGHT be correct ( i haven't used the GO) i cant imagine i situation where you would need the volume to be louder than what is on the One). The Tom Tom One retails for $799 and has only been out since the start of the month and i have already seen it in the small amount of looking i have done post purchase for as low as $730. Mapping is very quick and GPS lock is usually VERY quick (especially if you don't turn the unit on until you are outside) Bootup time is next to non existant after the first use when the SD card is inserted. Thats about it... if anyone has anymore questions about it or wants photos etc just ask, more than happy to help! BTW, by no means am i rubbishing the Navman, i just prefer the Tom Tom as it suits my work and personal needs better. Sorry about the message being a bit all over the place... was just typing as i thought :S
  15. Ok, i've posted this before but i didn't see anyone fess up to who it was and i'm convinced it has to be someone on here.... I regularly spot a blue stivo parked in Menai not too far from the Maccas. Its heavily modded and appears to have the CES exhaust. Whoever it is i am prepared to do a straight up swap for your car :P :P
