  1. A whine, hum or whistle, or something that changes pitch with the rev's of the engine would be fixed (or minimised) by the use of the filters and isolators and the suggestion of seeing whether the noise is there with the engine off will tell you whether it's interference or not. My money's on excessive noise from your head unit, in which case it'll be there all the time. Look at the signal to noise ratio, SNR specification (if it gives you one) and compare that to a good quality unit. If it's <90dB then you won't be able to do anything, upwards of 95dB then it shouldn't be making any other noise than what its supposed to. If you don't mind me asking, is it an entry level head unit or a high end one ? BIG difference when it comes to the amount of 'noise' both cheap n'nasty head units and quality head units make (or pass).
  2. In some lights it looks to be Silver Ash, but it's actually Sakana Silver.

No Moonroof, ex demo so had to take what was on offer.

You finding that paint chips on the front lower scoop are a problem ?

  3. I know this is probably in the owners handbook, but I don't have imediate access to it atm. I'm finding I don't clock over enough km's per service interval. The next service interval for me is 17th Jan or 30,000km. As I've only done 23,000km, I was wondering how far (time wise), I can push the service back before affecting warranties etc ?
  4. The thing I liked with Sydney City Toyota is that all the service bays have a web cam overhead so you can either sit in the waiting room and view the service happening or view it online in real time
  5. Mate, after hearing which dealer it was you were referring to, I can't say I'm suprised. That whole dealership sounds doomed from the numerous stories I've heard. I looket at a ZR6 they had in their lot, ex sales manager's and had our then current Pajero valuated as a trade in. They offered me $4k for a Pajero I ended up selling privately for $18k Steve
  6. Andy, Don't know if this is any assistance to you, but below is a couple of drops of Mobil 1 taken off the dipstick. Vehicle was serviced 2 weeks, 1000km ago. As you can see the colour isn't any where near the colour or yours. Definately think you have a case to be heard there. Don't settle for anything less than what you want. Steve
  7. I've had a Camry, Starlet and Echo that all have done exactly the same thing, sounds like it's chugging I found that I could almost guarantee all three cars would do this in two situations. 1). When I start them and move them around the driveway, ie engine only on for <60sec and then let them sit. On restart some hours later, they would always do the whole miss thing for 30 sec or so. 2). If I didn't start them for a while, ie >2-3 weeks. As for why, well I don't know for sure. The above vehicles all had > 150k each so the rings may have been showing signs of wear. I put it down to rings not having been lubricated sufficiently on startup and therefore maybe poor compression one one cylinder until everythiing was coated adequately in lubricant.
  8. Horses for courses I guess. Spending $100+ on good engine oil may seem to be an expensive exercise, but then, so is replacing grills, under-car lighting, air intake mods, exhaust mods blah blah blah, all of which at the end of the day, don't really do all that much other than visual / sound appeal, fine if your into that sort of thing, but like I said, Horses for Courses :D Yes Mobil 1 is $$$$$, as are all good quality synthetics, but you sure can hear the difference on start-up, idles smoother (didn't think that was even possible in an engine that is so smooth to begin with) and over time, internals stay a whole lot cleaner, nowhere near as much sludge build up.
  9. I have noticed small amounts of gearbox fluid leaking out of our 2001 echo (1.3L man trans), where the passenger side driveshaft protrudes through the gearbox. I assume that it’s the oil seal, and would like to do the job myself providing there are not too many pitfalls along the way. So before committing to the repair, I’d like to know a bit , particularly on driveshaft removal / installation before diving in. My questions are…… 1). I recall the drive shafts have some sort of retainer clip that hold them in the gearbox. How do I access these for the removal of the drive shafts ? 2). Will the oil seal be a part of the driveshaft or the gearbox. If it’s part of the gearbox, then how do I remove it ? 3). Can only one driveshaft be removed or do both suckers have to come out ? If there is any other area that might need special attention, then please let me know. Steve
  10. I recently had to replace the standard tape player in my 01 echo after not having the security code. Toyota wanted $45 to decode <_< I figured, it would be money better spent on a more recent head unit. I purchased this unit which acording to the faceplate is mp3 compatible. I assumed that if I were to place a CD-R containing mp3 files, it would play them Instead, it says something to the effect of 'no music found' I know it's a factory Toyota head unit, but don't know from what vehicle. If anyone has a manual which describes the operation of this unit, would it be possible to get a copy ? I'd settle for the section that describes how to play a mp3 from disc Cheers, Steve
