  1. Hi all My dealer told me it would cost $808 to fix the knocking - Toyota would not pay - have been following this topic for a while so sent an email to Toyota complaining and got the following response - not sure if it is more stalling - or if we need more people to complain to tray and get the right result.... -------------------- Thank you for your recent email received by the Toyota Customer Experience Centre regarding your 2007 Kluger Steering Knock. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your comments on your Kluger. This issue has been escalated to Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) in Japan to work on a resolution to this issue. Once TMC has completed their investigation and have notified Toyota Motor Corporation Australia (TMCA), the Toyota Dealers, via their service departments, will be informed and intern will contact their customers with the relevant information. (There is no time line of the conclusion of TMC investigation). This noise will not affect the vehicle or safety operation. Thank you for contacting Toyota and allowing us the opportunity to respond. Kind regards, --------------------------------------- Any suggestions as to what I should do next? cheers Kluger2
  2. My daughter broke my rear passenger tail light and we replaced it ourselves - searched high and low on the internet and found a thread on Toyota Nation re people replacing tail lights with LED aftermarket versions - someone there did a DIY set of instructions - it was posted on Megaupload - and that was closed by USA authorities - so I asked if anyone had a copy - got a reply and the DIY is located here -> (http://mojavetrail.webng.com/TaillightReplacement.pdf) We were a bit concerned as everywhere I searched said you needed to remove the rear bumper! When you look at the DIY instructions you don't need to take the whole thing off - juat remove some screws and catches and bend it out of the way enough. Overall I would say that it was fairly straight forward - took us about 40 mins or so all up - we did follow the instructions step by step so we didn't miss anything but it is not that complex - I think there may be a few slight differences in the pic's compared to our Kluger (we have late 2007 model) but overall the instructions worked fine. Cheers
  3. Checked the details of mine - Konig T2 Magic size 255 work fine never had a problem Cheers
  4. I have used chains on a number of occasions. When the new Kluger first came out it was not listed on the size charts for any chain brand that I could find - finally had Konig confirm the correct size and made sure I tried them on before I purchased them. I got Konig self-tensioning - not sure what "model" (T-magic etc) and can't recall size of the top of my head - $430 sounds about what I paid a couple of years ago They work fine and are easy to put on (front wheels) and no issues at all with fit or clearance - have had to fit them 3 or 4 times in the past 3 years I will have a look at the "model" and size when I get home tonite and post the info Cheers
  5. OK so we know that you can put in at least 67.5 li - good to know - wonder if anyone has taken it to the edge and had a larger fill?? The problem is that some things are accurate and some not - if everything was accurate then when it says 0 km to go you would have 0 km to go (not another 100) - I am OK with a bit of a margin so if it said 0 km and you had 20 km up your sleeve then OK but if you can still go 100km then it sort of leaves you in a gamble - you may try for 40 km or 50 km or whatever but don't really know - so you fill up to be safe. Try telling your 1+ that she has at least 50km to go when it hits 0 - she panics and fills it up as soon as the light comes on. Cheers
  6. How accurate does everyone find the "distance to empty" feature? I have had a number of times when it has got down to zero together with the fuel light on the dashboard (lights up with 30 KM to go or something thereabouts) and when I fill up the most it has ever taken is 62 li I think from the specs that the tank holds 72 li So When the distance to empty says 0 km I have 10 li left in the tank? so could possibly travel another 100KM (at 10li/100KM) - too scared to try this! Wondering how much fuel other Klugers take to fill up when the distance to empty gets down to 0 Cheers

    Snow chains

I had a little trouble last year getting chains as the Kluger 19 inch wheels were a new size to Oz and were not listed on the chain sizing charts Ended up trying a few sizes on and had the importer advise the correct size I got Konig T2 Magic - size 255 and they fit easily with no problems on the front wheels (the size chart has probably been updated by now) It all depends on the weather - I only had to fit chains on a 2WD once in the previous 5 years and last season I had to fit chains twice to the kluger (and had 2 other occasions when 2WD were fitting chains but AWD didn't need to) Don't know about other brands etc - Konig are expensive - around $430 if I remember correctly - but they go on easy and self tension as you drive - so no need to stop and tighten up after 100 Meters or so.
  8. I have dealer fitted front and rear sensors - didn't get a manual with them! Where abouts in the cargo section is the switch to turn off the sensor when towing???

    Radiator outlet

Standard factory/dealer provided coolant should be more that good enough - no need to change it Have been to the snow 3 - 4 times this year - no problems probably something in the handbook re what temp it is good for but should be fine for anything aussie alps can throw at it cheers Kluger2
  10. From memory they were around $440 or so - much more expensive than the ones I had for the old commodore from 5 years ago! We go to the snow quiet a lot so I wanted good quality - the Konig (most of the good brands) have a self tensioning system - you put them on and drive away - no need to stop and retighten etc after a few hundred meters or so Most ski shops will sell them - may pay to call ahead to see if they have the 255 size in stock cheers Kluger2
  11. For Buller (possibly all of Vic) they assess the conditions daily and decide what is applicable for that day - but this is only for a day trip - up and back on same day. So sometimes a day trip will not need chains on any vehicle - sometimes just for 2WD and sometimed for all vehicles For overnight stays all vehicles are required to carry chains (I guess conditions change quickly and you may need them the next day) So if you stay overnight and if the conditions on that day you leave are such that you need to fit chains then you have them with you. When we went up and came back they were fitting chains to 2WD but not to 4WD/AWD - always talk to the traffic control crew - they know what the conditions are like and will advise - if it is marginal then caution is the go and fit chains - 4WD/AWD is no guarantee!! As this was my first trip in the Kluger I was very careful and was waiting for the first sign of any slip and would have put the chains on quick as a flash but it was rock solid - however, even though 2WD's were required to fit chains the road was still good - in the past I have seen it much worse when we drove up in a 2WD with chains on - so it probably was not a real test - will need more snow for that! I purchased Konig chains - size 255 - the shop had to contact the supplier to find out the correct size as the Kluger 19 inch tyres were not on the chart - this may have changed by now as the supplier was going to issue a new chart with the Kluger tyres listed - in any event don't buy until you have tried them on for size!! Cheers Kluger2
  12. Went up to Mt Buller over the weekend 2WD fitting chains at chain bay 3 - the guy waved us thru and said we would be OK and didn't need chains Followed a 4WD crew cab thing up (ute with 2 rows of seats) - it was spinning the wheels and sliding around a bit and drove very slow Kluger didn't skip a beat - engaged the snow button and it did feel a bit sluggish but didn't break grip once - traction control did not engage once driving up. Have a village access pass so drove right into the village, dropperd everything off and then drove down to the carpark - lots of ABS when going down and found that it was better to drive in S2 and click back to S1 if I needed to slow down - very effective on the steeper sections and slowed down with no slip - so basically drove down switching betweek S2 and S1 as needed Very happy - one of the main reasons we purchased the Kluger was to be able to get the village access pass and be able to drive up to the village to drop people and luggage off. Same on the way home - more fresh snow and 2WD and all the busses had chains on but doidn't need them on the Kluger I don't want to take any risks so if there was any sign that traction was bad I would have put the chains on immediatly - but it just felt so solid the whole time I didn't get close to thinking I needed to put chains on Outside ntemp guage never went below 0 - I am sure that it was colder so I think the display only goes down to 0 and is not able to display negative temps (can anyone confirm this?) Cheers Kluger2
  13. What is recommended when driving in the snow? leave all the Traction Control (TRC) and Stability Control (VSC) on and press the SNOW button? Or do you turn TRC/VSC off and press the SNOW button?? anyone know what the SNOW button actually does??? If it is bad enough to need chains, what should you have on and off then? TRC/VAS on or off and SNOW button on or off????? Tried reading the manual and it doesn't quiet spell it out last car I had (rear wheel drive) said to trrn traction control off when driving with chains Any ideas Cheers Kluger2

    Toyota Advantage

My 10,000 service cost me around $178 (can't remember exactly) I asked at the time and was told it was a fixed service for $150 but was charged extra for park brake adjustment!! I had read stuff here re people who were not happy with the park brake and I was not happy with mine - it seemed to be at the very end of it's travel to get it to work so I asked them to check it - they adjusted it and it is better now --- but you get charged for "adjustments" I said that it had been like that since day one and the response was that it's been 10,000km now I had lots of time to bring it in earlier - it's now just general wear and tear - I was not happy but the car is leased and the lease company approved the "adjustment" So be warned!! Cheers Doo
