I reckon my VX calais looks more "cardigan" than my Camry, especially with its dark tint sunroof etc (Calais's hardly ever have sunroof where on the Grande it had to be deleted if you didnt want). P.S The Calais is up for sale looking to replace with a late model Corolla.
  3. I wish more people were as passionate about their Camry's as I am, I dont fully understand why its not the case as they are such innoffensive, well-built, reliable cars. I presume its the Australian physche that says regardless of how poorly built a car is, if its a Ford (USA) or Holden (USA) its simply better. Apart from the better seats in my VX Calais (80k) I LOVE and prefer to drive my V6 Camry (260k) with Sunroof, CD stacker etc, silky smooth. Even though its old now it feels so solid, gives me a sense of "I know it will get me where I want to go" The VX by comparison is "clunky", "rattley" just feels poorly built throughout (and had major failures such as power steering pump and other things), my fathers 05 BA ute by comparison feels like a truck and a generation or two older, in terms of refinement my mums 02 TJ with half the mileage feels "loose" "rattley" just doesnt have the quality feel. Is it because these cars are just so damn good and again inoffensive that they are just overlooked? I must admit, compared to previous cars (Non Toyota's) and my VX the car can be boring simply because it never breaks down or causes any dramas at all. It seems indicative of the kind of car they are that I and others have recently posted such a minor issue (although annoying) as a blown light on the Stereo Display on this forum. Look at other Australian made car blogs and they are talking about common and catastrophic mechanical failures (Falcon and Commodore). I like to look at the American blogs where they have a love affair with Camry (and other Toyota's) and are brave enough to acknowledge that US produced cars are simply garbage in a lot of cases (I can vouch for that with the 99 Dodge Intrepid rental I drove around west coast that was falling to pieces). I hope more Camry owners start to participate in this forum.

I agree Camry's arent built for speed but that doesnt mean they dont/cant go fast in V6 guise. I would say get the 1MZ-FE V6 Camry, I have surprised many a Falcodore driver and beaten or equalled many of them in my "Cardigan" Vienta Grande, it has a fully reconditioned motor with 50 k's on it now, stock standard no mods. The power to weight ratio of the 98 V6 Camry versus the Jurrasic "Ecotec" VT Dungadore of same era for example proves the Camry IS faster (do a quick search if you need evidence), I know this first hand as Ive seen a few owners with red faces. I believe that is was popularly held, and internet searches will prove that the Camry V6 was the fastest locally made six during the era when it was first made. An RACV test which can be seen at link below showe dthat the V6 Camry they tested was almost a second faster than the Dunnydore over the 0-100. http://www.racv.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/Int...a+camry+(1997-)

Hi, getting off the subject a little where can I get those headlights from? they look great.
  6. Yes its too much trouble, Ill just be sticking with my original, I like things to look the way they were intended and the head unit in the grande looks good, for mine its only the actual readout part of the deck which isnt lit, the rest of the head unit, including all buttons are well lit, its just an annoyance not being able to read at night, I have had aftermarket CD players etc in other cars (good brands) and I would say the sound from the Grande's is still better and its better (indeed a better overall car) than my 02 VX Calais's system (with 8 speakers), I can have it very loud without any distortion (and car door internals dont vibrate and rattle like Calais). I believe the rear 6X9's are superb, front door speakers give great mid-range and sail mounted tweeters just top it off, I get the best sound from playing CD's, (in dash or rear changer) or I might just be lucky and my speakers are all well preserved as car was always garaged.
  7. yep, is your one fixed? and how much is it to fix by jb / sstrathfield? and what exactly, do they do? Hi guys, I own a 98 Grande with the exact same problem, bought the car like that, the stereo head unit light is the only light not working (green light), took the car to local Toyota dealer and they fobbed me off to a radio place and then they fobbed me off saying its not worth it as its got to come out then they had to send it away, its annoying as its the only defect in my car at all. Im sure its a 10 cent bulb. The sound from my system is awesome so i wish to keep it, not sure what you think of yours, plus it keeps it original, let me know if you guys fix yours and how, thanks.
  8. Mate I'll swap you for mine anytime. However mine are grey. Give us a yell if your interested. Hi thanks for the offer, damn, wish your interior was beige, the car is Gold (Parchment) with that biege leather and brown interior, thanks anyway.
  9. My 98 V6 Grande is my third Camry (One 94 Wide Body "Apollo"), its silky smooth, ultra reliable, fast! when it needs to be, great build quality and ergonomics, apart from servicing doesnt cost me anything in repairs, drives and feels like a much more expensive car! 260 k no rattles no squeeks, Oh did I mention its smooth as? LOL. I feel guilty everyday Ive owned the car that Im driving such a fantastic car for what I paid for it, just hope all the Falcodore drivers dont find out how good they are and start buying them (and other Toyotas) or Ill have to pay more next time. I love this car! why would anyone not buy a Camry.
  10. Hi, this might be a little unusual however is anyone interested in swapping complete leather seats from my Gen 4 98 Grande for cloth seats? The seats are front and rear, electric front, rear has three headrests and centre armrest, all good condition except some wear on top part of drivers side and one very small mark on rear. Wanting to swap for biege cloth seats, I guess suitable for someone who loves leather and has the VXI model which came with cloth? Not sure though if that model has power seats, open to suggestions. My two small dogs go slip sliding all over the place (they HATE seat belts) in the back seat and seat covers just dotn cling/grip to leather, they just dont. Love the car, dislike the leather, only way to get a sunroof in the Gen 4 (some lower spec models optioned with it but very rare) was to get the Grande but unfortunately came with leather. Thanks.
