  1. No probs buddy. I owe it all to these 3 chemicals in the pic below: Funny thing is they're designed for boats. But they surely do one heck of a job. I purchased mine from a local Supercheap Auto outlet. 1. Buffing using the cutting compound. I completely buffed the surface by hand until I was satisfied with the way it looked. 2. Polish - 3 layers with about 15-20mins between layers to allow drying and settling. 3. Restorer & Wax - Provides protection against weathering.
  2. Hey Guys, I've got a celica 6gen with a carbon fibre bonnet which used to be in a state of disrepair. It was all cloudy and had a very rough look. Probably the worst CF bonnet in history. A whole saturday and $40 later, I was able to restore it completely to a "near new" condition. Check out my before and after photos and let us know what you think! BEFORE: AFTER:
  3. Hi Guys, You may remember me from the "Gearbox just crapped itself?" thread. Anyways, gearbox has now been changed with a new clutch in there. The only problem now is that the gear lever is loose in a lateral sense while in gear. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, it has a tendency to move sideways while in gear the same way as it naturally does when in neutral. It's not too loose in a sense that it knocks from left to right, but when I put it in 1st gear, it automatically moves at a slow rate into 3rd position without actually affecting the gear. If you put little force, you can easily make it move to the 5th gear position while in 1st gear with the clutch in contact. This applies to all gears. I.E. If I try to shift from 1 -> 2, it goes into 4 since it's moved over from the 1st -> 3rd gear position (hope that's not too hard to picture). Does anybody know a fix to this? The mechanic said he's unsure but would fix it once he finds a resolve. Would there be cables which need to be tightened? Thanks guys for all your assistance!
  4. Nop, all stock. It turns out that the internal diff broke and the cheapest option was a swap with another 2nd hand gearbox.
  5. Hi Guys. I have a Gen 6 celica with about 218k on the odo. Just today, i was leaving the driveway and the road was a bit up hill. My steering was locked right to its max (narrow street), and i was giving it some power to move forward and narrowly miss the kerb. I suddenly heard a huge bang from my engine bay and my car was just rolling backwards. I initially thought i had hit something, but it turns out that it was something mechanical inside my car. The car doesn't move in any gear...all you hear is some weird gear grinding noise which gets a higher pitch at higher gears or rpm. The car never stalls...when in gear, if i completely let go of the clutch, the gear grinding sound is only heard while motionless. Prior to this, i've had a few problems which I think may have led up to this. Just in the last 6 months, the car will ***** like crazy if cold and when the clutch is in contact. This would go away after 2 mins (when car's warmed up). Also, while driving, I remember hearing weird clattering sounds coming from the engine bay while accelerating after changing gears. The car is now sitting in a depot, waiting for transfer to a mechanic. Does anybody know what the problem is? Clutch, gearbox, drivetrain? Also, how much will I be looking at for repair? Thanks guys
  6. Hi Guys, I've just purchased a blank original transponder key for my st204 celica and would like the know the method I'd have to go about to get it programmed for my car. I've searched throughout the net and all I come across is the guide for the 2000 model (7th gen) which doesn't seem to work with my 6th gen celica. Any assistance will definitely be appreciated. Thanks!
  7. Hey, i need to make a decision for the insertion of a cannon muffler. The fitter said he can do it either angled or straight but i'm not sure which suits the car better. I'm being charged $280 for the muffler with installation all together. So which is better from a visual perspective? Angled? Straight? I kinda like both but am not sure how the angle will look. Thanks for your help guys, and much appreciated for any suggestions.
  8. He did tell me over the phone it's real carbon fibre. I tried to trick him out of it by saying..."is it painted?" and he just said..."umm, it's carbon fibre...i dunno whatever it looks like but yes it's greyish but that's not the paint". So i'm going to go in tomorrow check this bonnet out. You can tell from the sound the metal makes when you knuckle it or even the temperature of it to compare with fibreglass. But ye, i'm most probably getting it.
  9. I was spending time looking around for a new bonnet for my 204 and after having trouble with the mismatches in colour (damn typical red and black) since mine is dark blue, some guy told me he's got a carbon fibre of the same bonnet in stock. I was immediately interested since I know for a fact they're hard to snatch up and are known to be a lot lighter with slightly better looks. The price on top was unbelievable ($250 since he wants to get rid of it). However, i haven't got much experience with handling carbon fibre. I heard about clear coat and stuff like that by googling carbon fibre stuff, but I'm not sure if i should snatch it up. My best alternative is far more expensive: Buy black and respray to dark blue for matching = ~$500 Buy CF bonnet = $250. It's a large difference. Please shed some advice my way. Thanks.
