  1. It costed me $800 to replace my RHS CV Joint when I was replacing my gearbox a couple years ago. couple months ago, it costed me $550 to replace my LHS CV Joint. what a ripoff! Edit: they were new parts btw
  2. I had the same problem, only in my case there was no oil in the engine (whole different story about how when I first got the car, I took it to Auto Masters for a full service. Long story short, they didnt screw back the bottom properly and the oil was leaking slowly.... fast forward 2 weeks... driving on the freeway and then clank, clak, clank, clak...) Anyway, I got a reconditioned engine, changed most of what was in the engine bay that needed replacing at that time too. Came up to just over $5k in total. It runs perfect now. But being a 22yo car, eventho the engine and most in the engine bay is all good, I'm still always replacing bits and pieces around the car. The latest being the gearbox and CV Joints. So I wouldn't recommend spending too much on your engine replacement unless you will be keeping it a long time. I'll say go option B, but make sure you get a proper engine replacement. Also remember a rebuilt will mean a long period without the car.

hey, got pics of your car? I guess with your body parts, you could sell them to fund your new purchases. And I tend to agree with the other guys that a proper GT-Four would be better than swapping the engine, the mechanics of the car just would be the same... FWD instead of AWD etc. edit: haha, don't worry about that pic, just saw your other post.
  4. Sounds like you found quite a catch, cause thats one sweet ride you have there.
  5. Just to clarify... will you be getting the TRD Aurion?
  6. how did you go with this mate? all fixed? the first time I had this problem, my mechanic told me the prob was with the cable and sold me a new cable. it worked fine for about a year and a bit. Now my speedo aint working again and when I took it to another mechanic, he told me the problem aint with the cable cause after they fix it back, drove it for a while, it fell out again. Well, I suppose I ain't speeding if I'm driving at zero km/h

I had a similar problem. It turned out to be the Regulator on the Alternator (got it checked at auto-electricians). Got a quote to replace the regulator and checked again for $145, and got a quote from Repco for a brand new alternator for $297... I went for the new one. Cause if the diodes are stuffed as well, I'd have spent $145 for nothing... I would suggest getting your alternator check at the auto-E's, it was free and they just did a quick check for me and told me where the prob was.
  8. welcome to the club mate... got my engine replaced too, with a re-manufactured engine... it was sheer agony waiting for it to be done so I could drive again. Have to say I reckon its the nicest model but then thats my personal opinion.
