  1. Hey mate, i have 2 interior neons, 2 LED window washers and 8 underglow LED's on my luxxy.. I've wired them all into the cig lighter.. Just pull the dash part that the cig lighter is in off and hard wire them into the positive wire the centre wire in the back of the cig wire and run the wire to a switch which u can buy from any auto-motive super store then drill the switch into those little rectangle switch holders in the dash near the steering wheel then run the wire off the other side of the terminal on the switch and run it to the positive of the under glow then u can just ground the negative wire to a good bare steel (no paint work) screw or bold which is holding ur chassis together.. This is pretty basic here's a wiring diagram that my underglows are using.. Wiring it into ur cig lighter is good because u can drive around at night with it on and when u turn ur car off it automatically turns off cause it doesnt have power Another great wire to tap into for ur positive is your headlights cause if the switch is on then they will automatically only turn on when ur lights r turned on and will turn off when they are turned off.. All up to ur preference tho
  2. Thanks mate, i'll give that a go and let u kno if i work it out lol.. Ive actually burnt my leg pretty bad and am bed bound for a few weeks so i i'll give it a go when i can lol.. Cheers mate and thanks alot for your help, greatly appreciated.. :) -Ben
  3. Hi guys, i've got my first car.. A 1999 TOYOTA HILUX RZN149R Dual Cab this model car has a 3rz-fe 2.7 ltr petrol engine. Im quite handy with car electronics i've installed spot lights, relays, head decks, neons, truck lights, show lights, etc etc i just dont kno much about engines lol.. So on the tacho i have its got the illumination wires which i kno how to wire into headlights + and - then its got tacho power + and - to wire into accessories and then its got the green wire, the signal wire, the only wire i dont kno where to wire it into lol.. I've read and tried to do some research, so far according to 1 place it should be a brown wire which will just being lieing behind the dash/speedo becuase the 99 hilux doesnt have a tacho built in so i cant tap off that, according to another website it should be white with black trace coming out of some computer which i dont kno where it would be lol.. I've taken a pic of my engine back, if sum1 could point me in the right direction as to where the wire i'll have to tap into will be it would be greatly greatly appreciated.. I kno that it could come off the negative side of the coils but i dont think the 3rz-fe engine has coils according to a apprentice machanic friend at skool cause he popped my hood and was dumb founded were to hook it up to lol.. Can u hook it up to the distrubuter?? sum1 said thats where u can hook it up but sum1 else told me thats not accurate.. I'm really lost on this one guys.. Sorry for alot of reading but i really want this tacho in so i can teach my gf how to drive manual with the engine revs showing lol.. Cheers guys, Ben.. PS. can u just repost this image with a circle around the where the wire will be in paint or something lol cheers guys,
  4. Gday fella's I'm 17 i've jsut gotten my first car a '99 model dual cab 2 wheel drive hilux.. I'm pretty handy when it comes to wiring in things, i've done speakers, head decks, neons, underbody LED's, Spotties when i get the money lol but i dont really kno anything about engines lol.. The '99 dual cabs dont have a tacho on the dash so i cant tap off that wire I've been reading up on installing a tacho so far i kno theres a Power wire - connect to power wire then key is in ignition Earth wire Light/Illumination wire - connect to headlights Tach wire - Connect to coils or alernator or something lol I've read so far that the wire could possible be hooked up and sitting behind the dash just not plugged in, and that its a brown wire or brown wire with red stripe and that it will increase its volts with acceleration.. I dont see why this wire would be hooked up and just left behind the dash, so where abouts is the alernator or coils in the engine and what does it look like and where would the wire be coming out of it from lol.. Any help would be greatly appreciated And sry for long explanation, Thanks Guys -Ben
  5. I connected it up with the other negative and it works awesome.. :) Thanks guys much appreciated
  6. Thanks "Bye Evo" i'll give that other wire a go.. So just gotta connect it back to the other negative / the one that doesnt turn into a positive when headlights are on lol.. Will give it a shot 2moro, thanks for the help guys much appriciated :)
  7. Hi guys, my girlfriend recently bought a toyota paseo and i have installed 2 x green neons in the boot which have simply just been tapped into off the boot light which turns on when boot is opened, they work fin, a new head unit and 4 new speakers. Heres my problem, this is my first underdash neon wire up. I have tapped into the back of the cig lighter and simply attached a On/Off switch on the dash beside the steering wheel. Now the neons work with the keys in the ignigtion which is what I/We want but when the headlights are turned on the neons stop working even with the switch still in the On position and when you turn the headlights off the neons work again. This is a problem as u mainly want the neons on when the headlights are on lol. I really have no idea why this is happening specially when i've tapped into the cig lighter not the headlights wire under the dash. Is it possible that the neons are drawing to much power?? i didnt think they did but could it be my connections?? i am a bit startled.. Any help would be much appreciated and make me not look like a dumbass infront of the missus lol.. Cheers guys :)
