  1. if youre not going to clean it, polish it or wax it yourself, that sort of eliminates all the answers you will get on here! :P

paint protection packages are a rip-off when you get it done by a dealer. its only a glorified semi-permanent polish, that the dealer re-applies once a year to maintain the warranty on the paint. from memory it costs approx $700 just for the paint. tint is around $400 from a dealer, the rust protection probably about the same

if you dont mind forking out a lot of money, and dont have time/dont want to clean the car, then it might work for you. but if you dont clean the car on a regular basis, as with all polishes, environmental contaminents will wear it down regardless of the brand

  2. with nrma, as long as the modifications meet registration and roadworthy requirements, and the main policyholder is licenced to drive the vehicle with all the listed modifications, youre covered.

however, if your car is a total loss, the value of the mods will not be included in the value of the car unless youve made the agreed value to include all of it.

with repairs, they will generally issue a cash settlement for the value of the mod as their repairer network wont get a custom exhaust shop to do sublet work.

  3. unless youve have had an accident (and thus an abrupt bump), headlights dont really come out of alignment very easily.

not sure what the philips gt-150 are like, but generally the whiter/bluer the light emitted the lower the night time visibility, especially in fog and rain. clear nights are ok, but for fog and rain more yellowish lights are better

however, i've got philips crystal vision in my low beams and foggies and don't really have any problems with visibility. not sure if youve got foggies on your camry, but i think it makes a difference

  4. considering you mentioned you car is lowered "heaps", that may be the cause of your noisy shocks too.

when does the noise occur? if its over bumps, could be the strut bottoming out, or camber being too negative and touching the strut itself. if theyve been on a while, your struts will have dust all over them. check for any disturbances around where the tyre would potentially meet.

  5. but i dont think any aurion or corolla owners on here have bragging rights, a lot of them look like nans car

I take offence to that comment because I think a lot of Aurion and Corolla owners do have braging rights. They have nice cars and tasteful mods. It is funny you say that then brag about your own nans car.

I know the Aurion is a rebranded Camry, but the truth of the matter is that I would never have purchased my Aurion if it had Camry badges on it.

Do you realise you put **** on the two cars that make up over 80% of this sites activity?

harden up, mate. i drive a camry (obviously), and ive copped a bit of **** for it but dont take offence. i didnt say your car, or anyone elses for that matter, was boring or distasteful, nor did i say my car was fabulous. im sure if there was a thread discussing the aurions reputation, which lets admit in the greater scheme of things isnt much better than the camry in the greater eye of the public, you would probably try to differentiate yours from "whitegoods on wheels" too

i just find it funny that people say camrys are boring, but aurions and corollas sometimes arent much better

but this thread isnt about **** flinging at one another, so dont turn it into exactly that and keep in minds its simply a discussion, where believe it or not, opinions do differ!

  6. for a fee, your bank can trace the funds, and withdraw them from the nominated account. a lot of bull**** to go through it though. but he better be quick, because the longer you leave it the more likely it is to be declined (unless hes already set up the off-shore nigerian bank account and made a cash withdrawal as soon as the funds were received)

  7. it comes down to the individual car though. as bks said, most likely because of the fleet reputation they seem boring and plain. but i dont think any aurion or corolla owners on here have bragging rights, a lot of them look like nans car

if anyone contests to camrys being boring, come for a ride with me. ill show you how all camrys should go, drive and stop :P

  8. I clayed my aurion on the weekend and apart from not being able to move my right shoulder properly it looks awesome...

Need to buy some good liquid wax as the pasty stuff I have doesn't cut it, have to justify another car detailing purchase to myself?

easy done. think of shiny metallic paint :)

if you want something that lasts a while, is quick and easy, try autoglym aquawax. awesome water repellence given the procedure you use

  9. what sort of sound is it making? i've never heard of rain causing noises with the shocks. my thoughts is that some suspension bushing is loose, letting water in and is slipping a little. not that it would be enough to hear it whilst your driving anyway

  10. with regards to leather, autoglym has the leather care cream and the leather upholstery cleaner, both of can which be used on dashboards as well (which i do). they leave a nice and rich, yet matte finish to the dash which is especially good in summer, as glossy finishes reflect off the windscreen and impact vision.

personally, fabric cleaners are essentially all the same if you pay a decent price for it. however, leather care products are different ball game. i'd personally go with autoglym over meguires, but its up to you

  11. i work in insurance, so i have a pretty good idea how the coverage works

if you dont disclose your driving/criminal history (eg. convictions, dui, etc.) and you make a claim, you have to agree to a set of terms and conditions which includes the insurer reserving the right to obtain info about your history from the relevant state road traffic authority. if they find out about this, they can either decline your claim or impose a higher excess due to non-disclosure. you can dispute this with the financial ombudsman service, but good luck winning

same goes for modifications. although the insurer is not likely to decline your claim, they may limit what they are willing to cover, or just cash settle you for a significantly lower figure rather than repairing the damage or paying you out for a total loss.

however, if you dont tell them about it and never have to make a claim, theyre none the wiser.

and being nice to a consultant doesnt mean youll get a lower premium. every insurer has their own set of underwriting guidelines and criteria. they may have a slight tolerance to match premiums, but to maintain a profitable portfolio of gross written premium to claims loss ratio, they wont give you a better price if you have a nice smile. its all about risk

what one insurer considers a higher risk, and thus a higher charge of premium, another insurer will be able to offer a lower premium. as has been mentioned, the premium is calculated primarily on the risk you attract, but is also based on a lot of things. generally, insurers with higher premiums means that in the past they have insured someone from your risk category before and have lost more money on a claim than theyve made off of you in premium. this also means that they are more likely to pay a claim.

    hope this helps!

  12. Cost would have been one factor behind Toyota's decision no doubt, why put something in the car that was more expensive and would have made the car dearer and less competitive against the competition when the standard 2GR was already better than Falcon & Commodore in both performance, economy & emissions, and I believe atm Toyota's D4-S injection is reserved for Lexus models only in this country. That might change in the future though... ;) One can only hope!

well if the 1mz-fe was exclusive to lexus es in the 90s, and then later replaced the 3vz-fe in the camrys, with the 3mz then replacing the 1mz in the lexus', i dont see why the 2gr-fse wouldnt be able to replace the 2gr-fe in the aurion in years to come. but then again, they may decide on a different engine family to use altogether

  13. well holden tried to claim fame to "esp" as a revolutionary safety feature but it had been on foreign cars for ages. which is annoying as now all government funded safety campaigns use a commonwhore as the display vehicle and call it "esp"

so its no wonder theyre doing the same with sidi.

on the bright side, toyotas world-acclaimed 2gr-fse has had direct/ported injection since 2006 :) so holden can stick that in their pipe and smoke it

  14. I read some where that RDA come out of the same factory that make DBA.. Not sure if that is true.

they do, but obviously dont have the 'kangaroo paw' ventilation system that dba discs have. apart from that, same rotor compound and about half the price.

but neither of them are made in australia anymore.

  15. If you can find a place that still has stock of the Bendix Ultimates though (as it is now discontinued in that pad design), those would be a good one to get as they shouldn't cost much.

when i bought my ultimates, they were $130 for the rear pair from autobarn on special order (i believe the mcv and gsv series share the same rear pads). however, finding them now is going to be almost impossible.

  16. oh yes last point Aurion failed to get full 5 stars and the Falcon did so go figure that one out too...

the reason the aurion didnt get 5 stars is because toyota refused to spend millions to get results on paper to create publicity. ancap tests are flawed, and what happens in a simulated situation it not necessarily going to happen in reality. to be honest, i'd trust my life more with a toyota than a falcon

it isnt a be all and end all guide for cars

  17. no wheel nuts with the alloys you bought? well then you got jibbed.

every set of decent wheels comes with wheel nuts, its a safety aspect. go back to the wheel shop you bought them from

and if the nuts are too small for the wheel brace, then youve got the wrong nuts

long story short, get some bigger nuts! i pity you fool! :P
