  1. Just a quick question. Do I have to do anything special if I wanted to change to syntetic oil?

before changing it, use an engine oil flush, such as the one from the nulon brand range. with those, you add it into the oil filler cap, run the engine for 10-15 mins then drain the oil and filter immediately. from there, the rest is as normal, but fill it up with the new synthetic. obviously replace the oil filter as well.

personally, when i switched mine to synthetic (around 6 months ago now - castrol edge 5w30), i drove my car relatively hard before hand to try and get any potential sludge removed so its much easier to drain. i knew there wasnt sludge in there anyway, but it makes the oil run much easier when really hot.

but note once you go from mineral based oils to synthetic oils, you cant really go back

  2. it is possible for the ecu to have not yet learned your driving style. i remember reading somewhere it takes around 1-2000km for the tranny ecu to learn your style and adjust the shifting patterns accordingly. but im not entirely sure whether that adjusting involves the rpm it shifts at, or the harshness of the shift (immediate, or lagging)

different car, so most lieky different kettle of fish, but i've noticed that when i reset my ecu, the shifting lags a tiny bit. however, after 1-2 weeks it tends to shift more harsh and very precisely. so maybe just wait a little bit to see if it changes its shifting patterns

  3. at first i didnt like them, but this was based on the pics in the other thread. i actually saw one in the flesh yesterday, a super clean black zr6 sportivo. they look much nicer in person!

having said that though, they do have styling cues from other manufactuers, ie. new falcons, etc. the older aurion looks more toyota-esque (even if its similar to the camry) and has a few more cosmetic features i like over the newer one.

  4. i dont think its such a great idea. a lot of other forums ive been to with the reputation system in place has a lot of hostility associated with it. i think with a community like ours, which is pretty obvious in my opinion, its more a resource and to help others, rather than determine whos good and whos a ******.

  5. funny, that is....i had an 03 sportivo for a little while and that manual said hb4 for the foggies. then when i got my 05 model sportivo, it said h3 (but it usues hb4). yet everyone says both manuals state h3

  6. wat if the guy refuses to give me his insurance company info and refuses to pay the quote?

section 54 of the insurance contracts act 1984 baby!

under s54, an insurer must pay a third party even where there is no cooperation from their client. but youve got to prove youve made reasonable enquiries and attempts to contact, locate or seek reimbursement from the other driver. if you can prove the other driver is liable for your damages and that your damage would normally be covered by there policy (ie. nil exclusions) then you can lodge a s54 claim on their policy

  7. if youre not at fault, you can claim for your damages through the other driver's insurer providing they've already lodged a claim on their policy

it may take a little while through, as insurers generally only settle their own client first before any third party's, and your settlement is always subject to whether or not their client has paid their excess straight up.

  8. 2 products will save your **** - autoglym custom wheel cleaner, then autoglym alloy wheel seal. a good wax works well on wheels too, providing they are extremely clean prior to application. theres not a massive difference between using these and not, but its definitely noticable in the time the brake dust takes to builds up.

  9. as rolla boy said, a hydraulic press is all thats needed so any mechanic can do it. and do it soon!

on my st184 celica, i had the front left bearing replaced, it cost $350 for genuine parts including labour from memory. considering your camry and that celica use essentially the same driveline, i cant see it differing in price.

  10. stupid question time! arent vsc and traction control 2 completely different things? vsc applies each brake individually to guide the car on the desired steering course, and traction control limits the amount of power to the relative wheel in the event of breaking traction? thats my understanding of the two anyway. or in the aurion does vsc cover both of them?

  11. We believe the R32 was a concept that was out of touch with its time. It has very high fuel consumption and the outputs were not adequate,” Trump says.

"An intelligent four-cylinder engine now can deliver adequate performance with much better economy. Fuel economy is definitely the priority now.

"It is a fact of life today because of the environmental and emissions controls - it is not feasible to use a six-cylinder for this, and the four-cylinder is on an equal par.”

hopefully they dont lose that signature sound that makes you weak at the knees

  12. I have narrowed my choice down to either the Dunlop Sports SP 300e or the MICHELIN Primacy. Both are costing me 160 AUD. The michelins have a special going where they are giving a free TOM TOM. I am inclined on the Michelin's for this reason however i dont want to buy tyres which are no good and dont last me long enough.

i wonder why theyre offering the gps unit...

imo, the michelin vivacy's dont offer the best performance compared to the dunlop 300e's

if youre happy with the dunlops, why not go for them again?
