  1. I see... Redbook (http://www.redbookasiapacific.com/au/vehicle/specs.php?id=101521) seems to think that the Sportivo came standard with "Remote Boot/Hatch Release".

Remote boot/hatch release simply means you have a little lever to release them from inside the car. It doesn't actually mean remote as in a remote control. For example, you car would also be listed as having a remote fuel lid release, but no button on the remote for it, is there?

For how much you are going to pay to have everything fitted versus how much you are actually going to use it, it seems a bit of a waste of money in my opinion. My car came standard with the boot release button on the remote, and I don't think it's worth as much as it would cost.

  2. I haven't driven anything amazing, but heres ine anyway

    i think that's about it

  3. another thing to consider is that they will not cover a covered component if its failure is due to an uncovered components (ie. a mod) failure

in most cases when modding your car, you can get it inspected by a warranty administator who will authorise the mod so that everything would still be under warranty.

  4. I've got a 2004 upgrade sportivo v6 with an auto transmission, and like everyone has said so far, it depends on how you drive it. I live in Melbourne, which is notorious for it's intense stop-start traffic around peak hour, and driving from my house to the city via main roads I might average around 13L/100km, but on the freeway I average between 9L-10.5L/100km. For a manual I imagine you would have slightly better fuel consumption.

The other weekend I went for a cruise around the Yarra ranges, and I got 570km out of a tank on 98 octane petrol. But driving to and from work over a week I might get around 450-470km out of it.

    Hope this helps.

  5. I'm interested in getting one of the high-rise race spoilers for the 2005 camry sportivo. I've gotten mixed prices and availabilites from a few dealerships

    gary mcmillan - not available

cannon (heidelberg) - available, approx 500

melbourne city - available, approx 600

has anyone actually got one of these, or know anyone who does and what they paid/where they got it from?

the dealers are really quite frustrating, considering the majority of them didn't even know it was an optional accessory at the time of sale

    cheers!

  6. my dad's hilux (1999 model) was broken into aswell. they totally screwed the lock on the passenger side front door, now you can't lock or unlock it at all.

that sort of thing wouldn't be worth claiming on your insurance though. it will probably cost less to replace the lock than for your claim excess, which may also increase your premium the next year

  7. Ultimately an insurance company legally cannot deny your claim because your car has an intake and wheels, i imagine your wheels are completely legal anyway? Tyre condition would be more of an issue, and even then its very hard to deny a claim on this.

It depends. If you actually fulfil your duty of disclosure (a lot of people dont) and the insurer accepts the risk at the time of inception, then you will be covered for the mods providing they're still within their underwriting guidelines. If you dont tell them about the mods, however, and they assess it they may then deny your claim and cancel your insurance without being questioned, or just cover a portion of the damages.

I work for an insurance company (not saying which one just for privacy, etc.), and the number of dickheads we get bitching about not being paid for a claim, even though they didnt tell us about half the crap on the car, is unbelievable!

  8. I wouldn't touch the spray on engine cleaners with a 10 foot pole now.

My first car was a 1992 Celica SX, and one day I decided to give the engine bay a "clean". Driving home from the car wash, the alternator light starting flashing below 2000rpm. After work, I went to drive home and it wouldn't start. So I called the RACV, and they jump started me and just told me the battery was flat, and to drive around a bit to recharge it before replacing it. Well then the alternator was working overtime and overcharged the battery, and blew a brake light bulb. Then I had to replace the alternator because it stopped working due to being overheated.

All because one bloody car wash! I'm not risking that again. I'll just sticking to using a few rags.

Also, s couple of other people I know have had belt slippage after doing the same thing, causign that horrible high pitched sqealing noise that stayed for about 4 days.

  9. Just a few questions if you don't mind:

    What state are you from?

Did you move from the original 16" to 18"? If yes, how have you found the ride? I'm expecting the cornering handling has been improved, right?

I ask this last question as I have driven the current model Camry Sportivo with stock 17" and the ride feels a little 'jiggly' at times.

I'm from Melbourne, in the northern suburbs. I went from the stock 16" to the 18". I haven't had any funny feedback through the 18" wheels, it seems much smoother if anything!

  10. wow

400 a corner just for the metal

genuine toyota must be...a high price! or is that roughly how much 18' wheels cost nowadays?

well $400 is doing pretty good, i think. that's the best price i could find for these wheels from about 6 dealerships, considering that they retail for about $540 a pop.

  11. They're great to drive with too; the car feels so much more stable, but these wheels are a lot wider, so that comes naturally. Tyre noise is reduced a bit too.

I got the rims for $400 each, and the tyres $225, so it came to $2500 for the lot fitted, balanced with front and rear alignment. I'm keeping the original spare.

  12. I bought the 18" kappa wheels from Toyota for my V6 Camry Sportivo about 2 weeks ago, and I've been meaning to take some photos to throw on here. I took 3 photos and the camera battery died, lol...So this is the best one I've taken thus far

    They're on 235/40/R18 Hankook Ventus V8 RSH424's

I will take some more photos to put on here soon.

    Enjoy!

  13. Hi everyone,

I've been looking at Third Party Damage Insurance as stated in title, since my girlfriend's Full Cover expiry is up. The car is barely worth $3000 so it's pointless getting full cover.

I've looked around to RAC ($300) and WQBE ($185). Does anyone know any cheaper alternatives with good service?

Basically we just want to cover for any accidental damages to other cars if she gets into one. I'm in Perth.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jase

is this TP liability or TP fire and theft? theres a big difference between the two. some companies over both liability and fire and theft in the one policy, but youll have to shop around. i know sgio is specific to wa, so they might work out cheaper?

  14. well if it was me, i would get my front suspension and drivetrain (especially being fwd) checked out asap. something like that could definitely do some serious long term damage. youll probably be in desperate need of a good wheel alignment now too.

  15. I heard magnatec isnt very good, can someone clear up on that?

i know its a different engine to the aurion, but ive used magnatec in my '05 v6 sportivo since i bought it, and ive never had any problems. ive been told by my mechanic ,whos also a good family friend, that the engine is running pretty clean. so i dont think id be making any switches in the short term
