  1. It was on Channel 7, today / tonight, and yes they seemed dodgy... I was more looking at it from a savings point of view. The canisters look easily enought to fit in the engine bay. As the hydrogen gas is plumbed into the intake it is meant to use less fuel. I was more worreid about damage to the enigne and the hydrogen exploding under the bonnett.
  2. Hi all, I have been looking on the net, as well as watching an acticle on tv this week reguarding using a hydrogen cell to lower fuel cost, from what i have read it seens to be able to drop your fuel cost by half. Has anyone out there done it????? I have an old cruiser (61 Sereis 12ht) which i will be taking around australia next year. As I live in Noth Western QLD diesel seems to be going up 10c every fortnight. If I could drop my fuel bill I am willing to give it a crack. Does anyone know anyone else who has done this? Or has an opinion on it??? Cheers I look forward to hearing your feedback.
  3. Cheers mate. We have been useing Fuchs oil at work for four years now. The engines and other components we rebuild are in great condition. We recently had a pump on a DK90 drill acheive over 25000hrs. It somehow missed getting changed out at 10,000hrs. I wish I new a little more about smaller engines though! not much different to an engine in a D11!!!!!! they both have up-and-down-and-round-and-round bits inside....both need a cooling system......and both explode when you run them out of oil!!!!. it doesn't matter how big an engine is....they still all have the same basic components to make them work. cheers True, the basics are the same... But some things are VERY different.. Thanks for your advice though.
  4. Mate our v8 cruisers at work chew oil. More when there putting around than working hard.. Keep an eye on your alternator. We work 0n 90% dirt roads and due to the position the placed the alternator they seem to fill up with dirt and self distruct! We get an avarage of 2000 - 15000km out of an alternator!

  6. yeah the figures sound about right. leave it well alone. always use a good quality "diesel engine specific" oil like BP mono 30 etc. DON'T use valvoline engine oil as it will glaze up cylinder walls and cause problems. most oil pump relief valves are set to about 60 pound anyways. anything higher than this and you start to get problems like spinning bearings on big ends/mains. the idle figures are ok too.....i've seen chev and holden v8's have a low as 10 pound at idle....thats a REAL worry cheers Thanks, I wasnt 100% sure.. Those dam OEM guages! I use Fuchs Ultimate 15W40. Would I be better going to a straight 30w oil. FUCHS have a T0430 which is a straight 30W oil that we use at work in all our CAT D11 Transmissions and Hydraulics.

  8. Can anyone help me???? I have a 1988mdl GX HJ61 Lndcruiser 12HT Diesel. It has 310000km on the clock and the guage in the cab tells me I have low oil pressure. I removed the sender as I do not trust electronic guages and fitted a oil fed pressure guage. These are the reading I have taken Cold @ Idle 70psi Cold @ 2500 RPM 90psi Hot @ Idle 30psi Hot @ 2500 RPM 58psi Can anyone tell me if these figures are ok????? I am not sure. I think the low idle is ok but Im a little concered about 58 - 60psi oil pressure at high idle when the old girl is hot. I only have a Gregorys manual and they dont give you much info on oil pressue. Any help would be greatly appreaciated. :
