  1. Heard you beep and looked up to see a modded Rolla fly past. Had to be someone from TOC. My Fiance was asking "who the hell was that" when you beeped. I had to explain
  2. I disagree. The Corolla and the Aurion are 2 completly different cars aimed at 2 completely different markets. The size difference is huge as well as the luxury and price of the Big 6. You will not get many buyers deciding between the 2. They are marketed to completely different buyers. HSV have the astra and the commodore in their range and they dont compete with each other. I cant honestly see any conflict. Rollamods Wrote: Seriously... Do you think a V6 FWD auto corolla would compete with the AWD turbo manual MPS's and WRX's?? I know what I'd spend my money on. The Mazda 3 MPS is 190kw and "FWD". How is it any different? I agree it would have to be available as a manual though. The new Rex looks like a Daewoo Lanos, I cant see many enthusiasts buying it. If the car already exists, surely it wouldnt be too hard to bring it out here, modify it enough to be a true TRD car. The power is there, you just have to make sure the chassis came up to the power of the engine. He's talking about that one. It's AWD. Yeah the Mazda 6 is AWD, but its also over 60k on the road. It will compete against the TRD Aurion. I was talking about the Blade being a direct competitor for the Mazda 3 MPS in size, specs and pricing.

  4. I dont get Toyotas thinking... They bring out the TRD Aurion which looks great and has plenty of power. As a first off, it is a top bit of work and worthy of the TRD badge. Next they will bring out the TRD Hilux. Again, great marketing exercise as its a 4door, 4WD sport ute which flies. I reckon Tradies will love it. Then they have said they will work on one more car for the TRD linup, but will most likely be a TRD Yaris or RAV4. WHY? Drive reported: "Insiders told us the $20k starting price of the Corolla meant that an enhancements to improve the visual and physical aggression of the car to TRD standards could take the retail price beyond acceptable levels" Surely it would be easiest of the lot. Grab the Blade with the 206kw 3.5 V6, add an LSD with VSD for traction and control, sort the suspension with some 18" wheels, add an aggressive bodykit and.... Whola a TRD Corolla that will kill anything else, provide a Halo model for the best selling Toyota in the country and all with off the shelf bits at minimal cost. Release it at $36,000 and you will take sales from every MPS, WRX, etc out there. Instead they have killed off the Sportivo and we are left with the "sporty" Levin at 100kw as the "sports" model. When the Hot hatch market is booming, why would you release a RAV4 instead of the corolla, when all the work is already done for Toyota Oz in the Blade?
  5. All Sportivos have a reverse beep when you shift the 6 speed manual into reverse. This is so you dont accidently shift into reverse instead of 1st gear which are next to each other on the 6 speed. All sportivos are also imported from South Africa, so it makes sense that your dealer says it is only on the overseas model. It looks like Toyota Oz decided to bring in all 07 Corollas without the beep, whereas other countries have decided to keep the reverse beep.
  6. I would take it to an EPA registered tester. It will cost you about $35 from memory. they have equipment to take noise readings. If you think its under the 92db, then send them the EPA test and they will have to detract it. then keep the test with you at all times in case you are pulled over. If however you are over, then you are kinda screwed. My old STi was about 110db and was constantly getting an EPA notice, I had a stock exhaust made up to connect to my larger exhaust. then take it to a garage 2 minutes up the road from the EPA tester. I wuold take it to the grage, swap exhausts, pass the test with flying colours, swap it back to my loud exhaust, then drive away
  7. Does anyone have the part numbers for the KYB sports shocks. I think pedders said they had nortmal shocks but nothing he would consider a sports shock.
  8. :P Thankyou.... I put that in as I knew everyone would tell me to turn them down... Where would I get the KYB shocks? I dont want to spend a huge amount of money in the conversion...
  9. My Stivo currently has Koni Yellow Shocks on them, with Pedders springs. They are Bloody hard on the road. They are on full soft setting and the guy at pedders said they are as hard as their race stuff! While i dont mind the bone jarring ride (as all of my cars for the past 6 years have had very stiff rides) my fiance hates it. We are thinking of upgrading in the next year or two. We are looking at selling her Corolla and her taking my Stivo, but I would have to change the suspension. I still want it to be sproty, but I am after something a bit more compliant on the road. I was thinking maybe the TRD shocks? Does anyone know how these compare to the standard Stivo shocks? Any other suggestions would be good. Cheers
  10. For the expense, the hassle and mostly for the relaibility issues, I would be selling the Corolla and getting a Rex or a MPS. The Corolla sportivo is deisgned for 143kw. That means that the engine internals, gearbox internals, driveshaft, Fuel system, engine mounts, engine internals, cooling system, etc is all deisgned around an engine that makes 143kw at the flywheel. 150kw atw means about 200kw at the flywheel. My problem would be reliability. Once you start getting these numbers, then you will start seeing the life of other components that you haven't stregnthened, seriously deteriorate. Eventually it becomes an unrelaible money pit. If you want a car that has 200kw then let the manufacturer spend millions in development work to make sure everything is strengthened. I have been down this path before and invested tens of thousands. It went faster than a turbo porsche, but there is a reason those things cost 300k. Anyhting more than intake, exhaust and chip, and you had better have a good mechanic and lots of spare cash in the account. It might take a while to start to see the effects, but once you strengthen one thing, then somehting else becomes the weakest link. You will also never be able to sell it. Just my humble opinion.
  11. That would have been me... Gipper. Sexy?... I'm Blushing.. he he :P
  12. Do you have a tuner who has vast experience with either? You can have the top of the line MOTEC computer, but if you dont have the right tuner, it will run worse than stock, or even do damage to the engine. The Tuner is as important or more important than which chip you get.
  13. Spotted Black Sportivo on Blackburn Road Near Waverley Road yesterday afternoon 21st November Lowered with Black 17" rims and TRD stickers Nice :P
  14. Which Chip you go for really doesnt make a whole heap of difference. Jim Richards runs a Unichip on his Porsche 911 race car, so it cant ba all bad. What DOES make the difference is the tuner. The guy who tunes the car makes more of a difference than the chip that you use. You could get a top of the line MOTEC worth 10 grand and it will run worse than stock if your tuner doesnt know what he is doing. make sure your tuner is very experienced in tuning your chip, tunes it on a dyno (not by some flash rom, as every engine is different), and preferrable you know others who have had their cars and chips dyno tuned there as well. I have run cars with Unichips to MOTECS, the tuner makes all the difference!
  15. Hey Specialized32 Yeah that's me. GIPPER Presume you were in the White Sportivo. NICE :)
  16. In VIC you need an engineering certificate for any modification that was not offered on your model from factory. I presume it would be similar in other states of Austrlalia. I am having trouble convincing the local guy that the Sportivo didnt come with 6-pot AP racing Calipers and 330ml discs. Even if you put any caliper other than standard you will need an engineerig certificate. That said, you will only need to produce the certificate if you need a full roadworthy and in VIC its only when selling the car or you get a Yellow Canary sticker from the cops.
  17. Front fog/driving lights are not illegal to have on in Victoria (not sure about other states). Rear ones however are illegal to have on in non-foggy conditions. It is an infringement to "Operate Rear Fog light other than as permitted". There is no infringement that related to front fog lights. If a cop was to book you, I would love to know what rule he was booking you under. I am sure you could get out of it. If you are booked for anything, look up the law yourself, its not hard and often you can argue the case to the cop or the court and win. Judges hate their time wasted by that sort of crap from traffic cops and will often side with you if you have a legitimate case. this is a good place to start: http://www.dms.dpc.vic.gov.au/Domino/Web_N...sf?OpenDatabase
  18. Just a quick post I just went away for the weekend from Outer Eastern Mebourne to the Grampians and Back Got 679kms from a tank of 49 litres for a fuel economy of just over 7.2lt/100kms I have an 03 Sportivo with CAI and 17" wheels. Also had a full boot and back seat with 2 of us in the car. Most of it was cruising with cruise control at the speed limit but there was a 25km stint of hard driving up a mountain. Its the first time i have done a long stint in the stivo and measured the hwy economy. Might be useful info for anyone wanting to plan a cruise based on real world figures.
  19. A few observations from my experiances that may help: * Simply putting harder, lower springs will decrease the life of your standard shocks and could decrease your handling ability as well * A good sports shock will make far more difference to ride and handling than simply changing the springs will * For street use a good Shock (Koni, Bilstein, etc) and a good dual rate spring are a great combination * Some coil over setups are IMHO too hard for street use. * Good quality coil overs are awesome for track use. * Not all coil overs are the same. A cheap set of coil overs are not neccesarily better than a non-coil over setup. * Rather than buying a coil over or spring/shock setup based on mates/forum/etc, talk to a sports suspension specialist like Trutrack in North Melbourne about what you want and what you use your car for. He will be able to reccommend a setup that will suit you and your car.
  20. Sounds like Snake Oil ! If it was that easy to get extra power why wouldn't Toyota install them from factory ? As well on the website they mention "impedance" which when you are talking about DC it should be "resistance". My 2cents. Yeah i have to agree. It looks like a con. I am not a car engineer but last time I looked, the engine made the power, not the battery. Sure the engine powers the alternator which takes engine power but again it is a mechanical action. I really cant see how a better earth can give you more kw's atw. If anyone with more knowledge than me can explain it, then i would love to know. i read the web site but it doesnt really tell you how the extra power comes about.
  21. I think my suspension lasted a whole 3 days when i bought my stivo. Front and rear sway bars Front strut brace Shocks and springs Camber kit LSD 1 word... go kart! Definitely start at the rear sway bar though.. with any car. Swaybars are realtively cheap yet make such a difference.
  22. Hey guys I have done plenty of circuit racing but nver !/4 mils stuff. I have the following mods: Can you guys tell me what effect the following would have to 1/4 mile times? - front LSD (thinking more drivetrain loss or more grip?) - Stiffer and Lower Suspension - increased front track width - Larger brakes so increase in front weight Just got me thinking whether this kind of stuff would make any difference at all. Cheers Gipper
  23. I think I spent 2 days in my Stivo before they all got replaced... far better car to drive. Any Pedders can do stuff like that for you...
  24. I think thats a fair call, if you refer to Toyota Australia that is. If you mean toyota worldwide, then you have been playing too much GT4 :). You gotta remember that Toyota Australia will also want to look after itself hence it is killing alot of the sporty stuff available in other countries. I think sportivo aurion will give a new start for toyota to prove themselves that they can build a fast sedan that suits australian's. As for the name, Sportivo does sound like "sporti" or "sporty" but when the aurion sportivo comes out, you can't really call that just sporty as it will have +250kw's under the hood. I would like to see the sportivo name changed to sport as it will be way more persuasive and direct. Im guessing that the sportivo aurion s/c would be awd as well as the body structure really looks like it suits an awd system perfectly. AWD + s/c 3.5 v6, then we got some real performance figures. Im feeling like i did a right move by cancelling corolla sportivo order and waiting to order the s/c sportivo aurion. It *looks like* it suits AWD perfectly? What sort of poor foundation is that for your conclusions that it is sure to be AWD? As much as i am sure your old man has been with Toyota for eons, i still think it is a little naive to cancel your Stivo order (probably one of the few left in Aus) to wait 6-12 months for a car that may or may not be FWD (would be a tragity if it is, although i wouldnt be suprised) and could more than likely cost double the price of a Sportivo. Also, did you not say in a previous thread that you are only 18? Would a supercharged vehicle not be illegal for you to drive? I think you are basing your conclusions on somewhat insubstantial information, the only REAL evidence you have is Toyota's word that it will rival the XR6 Turbo as Australia's choice performance vehicle and as Northy said, judging by Toyota's performance vehicle track record, they have quite the challenge ahead... When i said "it looks like", i meant that the car is also suitable with awd system as the designers also said the same thing and they said that its possible to bring it out with a awd system. Have you heard these news about the sportivo aurion? If no, why brag about a comment that i make? If you were a designer and decided to put a supercharged v6 under the hood and push over 250kw's, would you put it in a front wheeled car? Yes, the normal aurion is going to be front wheel drive like the rest of the cars of toyota but, sportivo is going to be different because of the power band. And yes i am aware that the sportivo aurion will cost twice the price of a sportivo. Like i said before, if you read closely to my comments you will see that, i said that the basic aurion is going to start from 35,000 dollars est. (more than a sportivo corolla) and sportivo would probably push 50g's or even more. I don't care if im underage for a supercharged vehicle. I was infact buying a 97 Skyline GTR instead of giving order for the sportivo corolla, but i decided to let it go when i saw the odometer of the car. There's lots of p platers with 5.7L monaro's. And i still see them on the road. As long as u dont do anything stupid and not get attention, it's ok. Speaking of the performance of it and rivals, 250kw+ 3.5L supercharged v6 with 6 speed manual, awd system and some more less weight compared to the other australian performance car rivals, sounds like that it will already be ahead of the cars like xr6 turbo and commodore ss. We will wait and see. I am willing to bet my left testicle on the fact that the Aurion Sportivo will not be anything but FWD. Firstly, the Aurion is sold in Oz and no where else. Secondly, it will only be a niche model. Just to recover the costs of engineering a whole new driveline for a low volume car would put the cost of the car over $100,000 each. I would expect an LSD on the Sportivo model and some really good suspension tuning, but that is it. Getting power to the rear wheels would mean the following.... re-engineering the chassis to allow for a driveshaft, turning the engine 90 deg to make it north, south. Re-engineering the chassis to re-position the gearbox... etc, etc. Do you really think Toyota are going to invest hundreds of millions of dollars for a low production sportivo model... dont think so! The supercharged camry conecpt they did last year was a test mule for the Aurion Sportivo and that was only ever FWD. 250kw should be ok with FWD as long as it has an LSD, 6 speed, good suspension tune and good weight distribution to cut out as much understeer as possible. Still.... anything 250kw is going to be a great drive.
  25. RESET YOUR ECU :D should fix it.. Just in case you all missed it! hey motoman, YeP i saw , i already reset the ecu just after i had my ces system installed wich was jsut about 3 weeks ago... should i reset it again?! cheers mario I think we all get that sucking sound with the CAI when we start the car when its cold I installed the CAI 6 months ago and I am only now getting the caughing. Wonder why it would just start to caugh and jump after 6 months? Once it is warm its ok... but its a pain when cold
