hey guys another question for you :) i live near the north east snow fields thus it's quite cold up here. Recently we've had a heap of snow/ice/frost in the mornings and on weekends i work at 5am so it's still frozen solid then. The other day we had a dump of snow and it froze solid on my car, i only had time to clear the front windscreen so i could make it to work (10mins away, i live in the bush sorta) thus my backwindow was still about an inch of ice >< i listened to my music on the way in (turned it way down in town, i dont like to woken up early either :P) but with my sub going in the back by the time i got to work it was all cracked up? Should i be worried about this? having my sub like this wont damage my seals etc? thanks for any help on this.. btw sub is Sony Explod 12" Sealed 1000watt sub with 5500watt Amp with JVC head unti in 01 ascent seca liftback :D cheers

This happened to our friend Ralph down melb late last year with his lexus lx 470>< Cops found it trashed a few weeks later (susspesnion, breaks etc shot) and it looked like it'd been used in a ram raid.. luckily whoever did this isnt going to reproduce... they left a packet of frangers in the car xD

If your buying a new HU my suggestion is dont be cheap! Just putting in good quality head unit to replace my stock unit i've had my audio sounding better then alot of my mates. The best bit is i spent a few hundred on my system... most of them spent $1500+... Rolla ftw! :D What wattage is that Sub btw? Be careful with what amp you get as well :) if you can try to stick to main stream brands unless someone can vouch for you that it'll work well :) Pretty sure some people have managed to hook up the steering controls? is yours wired or IR? haha putting in a new HU, Sub and Amp isnt that hard, all you need is the basic tools, plenty of spare time, someone to supply cuppa's and a handy diagram with the Toyota Wiring Diagrams BUT!!! Always disconect the - Terminal on your battery first as well....

hey mate i just went through putting a sub in myself into my rolla :P ive been told (this is most likely incorrect but someone can correct me) that stock toyota HU rarely have rca cables (the rca carry the signal for the sub from the HU to the amp in your case) and even then it's best to put in an aftermarket HU. A few more things to note are your power cables, grounding cables , speaker cables and dont forget the fuses! Make sure that whatever guage cable you get for the power to run from the battery to the amp has an inline fuse as close to the battery as doable so in the event it blows you dont have a live current running through your car. Also the grounding cable (attach to the metal body of the car) should be of the same guage as the power cable or interesting things happen , it's also a good idea that you dont just bolt the grounding cable to the next bolt but actually drill a new hole and scratch the buggery out of the paint for a good contact :) What sort of amp, sub and sub enclosure you got mate? :) Goodluck

Hmmmm where would the best place to put the switch be? Would it be allright to have it right near the amp? um it's connected to the dimmer wire, the same one that was hooked into the stock HU =) Double checked before that the wire only receives current when the lights are on so this mystify s me? theres no where else for it to be connected either and it's the same from the stock etc :S

Hey all as ive mentioned in some other posts i recently put in a JVC KD-G646 head unit in my 01 Ascent Seca to replace the stock head unit. This has been great as the previous stock unit couldn't play mp3's or usbs for that matter but one thing ive noticed that now the head unit's back light is on bright without the lights on and on daylight mode when i have my lights on. The back light is ok at night dimmed when i have my lights on but it's sort of a nuisance so does anyone have any ideas where Ive crossed my wires or done something else n00bish? if you don't mind me sneaking in another question here either ill just ninja it in with this new head unit, 5500watt amp (don't ask :s) and 1000watt sub i have to have my car running otherwise the battery goes flat in around 45secs i was wondering if there is a way i can build a switch in easily whereas i can switch the amps power supply off when the head units on (using remote lead atm to control when it's on etc). This way i can have the sub + amp off and be able to listen to the wireless while say watching a game off football on the sidelines? any help would be much appreciated :D

uh well i may as well ask my noob question here xD as ive mentioned before i own a 2001 Corolla Ascent Seca being my first car and all (they cost a pretty penny too :/ ) now the problem is im finding it difficult to find much information on this car and even when ive taken it in for it's services the mechanics at the Toyota dealership are equally confused by this "hatchback/lift back" model >< are they just fobbing me off as im just another P Plater? also since im not driving a big petrol guzzling v6 like my fellow P platers and actually saving some money (i <3 toyota) on petrol what are some suggestions for legal mods for a Green Victorian P Plater besides my audio setup allready? thanks :D

Hey all another newbie here :) The names Matt but everyone calls me Tool3y (in realtion to my last name or that im just too l33t ;) im on my Green P's in Victoria :D I drive a 01 Toyota Corolla Ascent Seca with 80,000kms on it :) oh and it's manual ;) Learnt to drive in a 34 Chevy Coupe so i only drive manual really, such as the trusty old hilux (just clicked over 300,000kms and never had a problem) Only thing ive done to my car has been to add a 15inch 100watt Sony Xplod Sub, 5500watt Amp and JVC KD-G646 head unit and it's never sounded better :) hope to learn the ropes of this forum pretty soon and be a constructive member within this community :D

geez i wish i'd seen this thread earlier this week >< just finished replacing my stock headunit and cd player from my 01 corolla ascent seca (im a P plater and it's cheap to run!) with a JVC KD-G646 head unit and it was a pain to wire it up. In the end i managed to get the wiring diagrams from the Toyota dealership we frequent. Took my install of the head unit, 5500watt amp and 15inch Xplode Sub from 4 hours to about 6 lol any idea why Toyota's wiring is against the norm?
