  1. Hi Since having my shaft replaced I sometimes get a terible sort of grindig crunch noise coming from the steering, only when I am stationary and ty to turn the wheel. It is not too frequent but when it does it the noise is loud and I feel the steering wheel shudder for about a second. Can anyone think what it could possibly be? I haven't taken it back yet for them to look at it. Cheers
  2. Has anyone had any issues after getting the new shaft spline installed. When the car is stationary and I turn my steering wheel (most of the time to full lock either way) there is an almighty grinding sound like the steering is going to sieze. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does definitely happen and it wasn't there before the new spline was installed. I have my mechanic looking at it on Friday.
  3. If you have reported it for the last 4 services then there are 3 observations I can make: 1. Your concern regarding the noise will be on file and evidence of this will be easy to obtain from your service provider. 2. 4 servioes ago for a 2006 Sportivo must have meant your car was still under warranty, based on an average timefrrame between services. 3. No knock, however small or large, is something that any consumer pays for and must not be tolerated or accepted, no matter what the monkey at tthe service desk tells you. Put the 3 of these together and you have a case for rectification at no cost. Don't deal with monkeys, deal with the organ grinders. Go directly to the servioe manager and explain what the issue is and how you want it resolved, be firm and don;t ack down from what you want. If the service manager is a bloody minded fool and sticks to his/her guns, go directly to the dealer principal and do the same again, this time advising him/her that your hard earned dollars will not be spent at his dealership next time due to this incident. I bet you get want you want (if they value your current and future business) Good Luck
  4. I can confirm the Whereis v.15 disc I have actually freezes he controls when I have set a destination. I have reverted back to v.14 and it is working perfectly.
  5. Well, just an update. I tried my v.14 disc today and, for the short distance we travelled (about 20km) the system and the controls seemed to work fine. So I wonder if the Whereis disc is causing the problem. I do know that v14 was a dual layer dosc and v15 is a single DVD which seems very strange, like they have tried to compress everything in v14 (and more) onto a single layer. I wonder if this is taking up too much prcessing time and the systame is spinning out????? Thank God I got v15 for free. Comments anyone?
  6. I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes and the problem still occurs. I have found that the freezing or delay response to a button being pushed only happens when the satnav has been initiated. It is like the system runs out of memory or cannot process things quick enough. I am going try one of my earlier versions of Whereis maps to see if the problem lies in the current version I am using (v15) Very weird.
  7. Thanks T Money Unfortunately I am an owner, not a mechanic.. Could you advise me how to do this? I know how to get into the menu on the later versions of whereis. IS this where I should be going?
  8. Hi My 2006 Presara has, for the last couple of months, developed a frequent problem. All the controls connected to the screen (Satnav, telephone, audio, menu dest, tuner etc) freeze. When I press anything connected to the screen there is an approx 20 second delay, if not more, until it actions the selection. For example, if I am using the satnav to get from A to B and I want to change radio stations, both the steering wheel buttons (Mode and the Up and Down arrows) will not perform until at least approx 20 seconds after pressing them. The sat naf screen sort of works still. The red positioning marker still moves and the map still moves showing your location. However the information box in the top right hand corner (which shows, for example, turn left in 5km's) becomes just a white blank box. All these freezes start working again when the system feels like it and will no doubt start freezing again not long after. It just keeps doing it. This also happens with anything else sonnected to the screen as mentioned above. The controls on the right hand side of the steering wheel (related to the air con) work fine and all the air con controls on the dash are fine. Thankfully, my cruise control works ok. Has anyone had a similar issue? Cheers Budgoi
  9. I was out of warranty with the seat. I tested the steering this morning with a few full lock turns and some quick starts and stops, Everything working like it should I am now happy to report......until next time...ha ha ha.
  10. Finally got the steering shaft fixed today. Haven;t had time to test it really as the missus has the car to go and watch George Michael!! I also had them fix lumber seat as one of the motors was dead. They found the piece of a button (from clothing) had fallen and jammed itself into the motor. That little button cost me $220 to fix!! AArrgghhh!
  11. I can now also confirm Toyota Link HQ are aware of this but say it should not affect the performance of the system, which I agree with.
  12. HUrray!!! The part is in. I am booked in for Friday.
  13. I can confirm the red light comes on when it gets hot.
  14. Hee Hee Hee. I just called Penrith Toyota a week after my last call. The shaft is still on back order. It could take 3-4 days or it could take another 1-2weeks!!!!!!!! Poor, Toyota, very, very poor. But I am assured by the lad at the service desk my car won;t fall apart, even though the noise is getting worse and wrose as each week goes by. I think I will be into week 5 next week of my wait.
  15. CNN Breaking News - U.S. to investigate Toyota Corolla steering problems Here's the link - Toyota May not be the same issues as we have been having but a very spooky co-incidence!
  16. Two weeks for your parts! Is that all! It has been three weeks for me and still no parts arrived at Penrith Toyota. They tell me they are finding it very difficult to get them and they have other people waiting for the same part. Hmmm....still sounds like a known fault to me. Meanwhile, I drive my Presara with the knock, knock, knock.
  17. I bought my Presara in 2007 (it was 1 year old). I was a good little boy and registered it using the Toyota Link button in my car. All good. In Januray 2009 I became stranded as my car had a flat battery (kids left rear interior light on all night). I called Toyota Link only to be told I wasn't subscribed but if I paid the annual fee of $240.00 they could get someone out, or I could call another roadside assistance company. I called NRMA and they eventually fixed the problem. I didn't question until November 2009 when we were on holiday and the Toyota Link syetem started ringing. We had never had this hapen before. It was Toyota Link telling us the Myaday Backup battery was low and needed replacing, plus our subscription had just expired on the 31st October. I told him we were not subscribed (and told him the story from January). He said they had only just started getting data from the car at the end of September. Strange..... It turns out the system was never taken out of Pre Delivery Mode and, no matter how many times you subscribe, if the system is not activated by the dealership you will never be able to use it. I am currently in dispute with Toyota Link over this and have demanded at least another 2 years free service to make up for the 2 years I should have had. The dealership do not want to claim responsibility for not taking it out of Pre Delivery Mode. PLease also be aware that the Mayday Backup Battery for your system requires replacing every three years. The cost of this is $300.00 ($100 for each year). So, essentially you are paying $340 per year for the privilege of using the Toyota Link Service. Ask yourself if this quirky gagdet is actually worth it or should you use a less extravagent NRMA service.
  18. Still waiting for confirmation from dealership when the new steering shaft the part is in stock. But great news from Toyota, I did do a lot of research and found a person high up who would listen to me. It all came together thankfully.
  19. I WON!! All costs to replace steering shaft to be paid by Toyota. Never give up, if you know you are right.
  20. Thanks all for your feedback. Thanks VF-X for your advice. I have contacted two dealerships in Blacktown and Castle Hill. I explained only the syptoms so as not to lead them down any paths. Both suggested the steering shaft as being the culprit. Blacktown said it was a common problem and "have fixed a fair few"! Castle Hill was aware of it and said the RAV 4's have mostly been in to get fixed. So what more proof do i need if their own dealerships whi sell the cars are saying there is a problem? I will ring some more and provide a list of responses for you to refer to if needed.
  21. There isn't any real noise, you can just feel it through the steering wheel. The thing that concerns me most is the fact that the knocking is steadily getting worse and I use my car for work. I travel 100km's a day just to and from work and I am worried my steering is going to fail on me. They now want me to stick with the problem for another 2 weeks or so before they can find one in stock and then book me in to fix it. How amazing that I am worried about the safety of my $50K car and it's only 3 years old and meant to be one of the flagships of their company. Good on yer Toyota.
  22. Nah, I certainly wasn't an A grade student. I'm just good with something if I can get my hands around it. Since I've pretty much taken my Aurion apart, I've got a decent idea of how everything ties together. I was the type of kid that would take a screwdriver to toys and take them apart to see what makes them tick. I'm just a hands on learner. Im like that too, only I can never put things back together again. Hi Everyone. My 2006 Presara started making the infamous knocking noise about 4 weeks ago. I am only 12 weeks outside my warranty period. It has gotten progressively worse over the weeks. The noise started to happen when pulling off from stationary poition and I could feel a clunky knock when my hands were on the steering wheel. It would also happen when applying my brakes to stop (at slow speeds). It has started to become even more evident over the last week and even bumps in the road, at slow speeds of about 40kmh, can cause the knock/clunk noise. I had it in to Penrith Toyota last week. After hearing nothing from them I decided to call them up and spoke to the mechanic in the workshop. He said he had taken it out for a test drive and couldn;t hear anything, it must be intermittent! I told him to go out again as it was a constant noise, meaning all the bloody time! I then go to pick my car up and am told the steering shaft needs replacing, it is going to cost $560 but Toyota Australia will kick in 50%. I am totally confused about what is happening. I called Toyota Customer Experience and after numerous conversations I was told the issue was NOT a known fault and that I still had to pay my 50% of the cost = $280. So, on Monday, I begrudgingly booked my car in for tomorrow to be fixed. They call me today to advise they now don't have the part in stock and cannot get hold of one for at least 2 weeks as it is a very popular part and no-one has a spare. Doesn't tell you it is a fault with the car? I have called Toyota Customer Experience back and will be advising them to visit this thread to see for themselves if this is a genuine fault or not.
  23. I have tried both TDk DL+R RW and Verbatim DL+R and they are the suggested discs to use for this software. Neither work (but it could just be a bad image I have downloaded???) I would certainly like to try the Kluger v14.
  24. Does anybody have a copy of V14 that would work in a 2006 Presara? I really need it for Sydney and have tried downloading from a few torrent sites but the copies have not worked, even when trying out different brands of DL+R discs. $395 is a bit steep for my budget at the moment Any help is much appreciated
  25. Hi Has anyone got a working copy of v14 that would work in a 2006 Presara? The copies I have downloaded do not seem to work in my car. Says DVD maps cannot be read. Not sure if the image from the torrent I have downloaded is 100%. Does it have something to do with the version?
