  1. Thankyou. Similar comments from a mechanic mate of mine today. He thought it wasn't unreasonable.
  2. 2007 Aurion ATX, ~ 200Kkm. My sons car. Freeway driving, 35C outside, AC on of course. Then...grinding noises, loss of power steering. Pulled over. Diagnosis: seized AC compressor. Belt snapped. Flatbed to mechanic for assessment. Quoted $2800. Does this sound right? Cheers. 10 hour job @ $130 hr.
  3. 2007 Aurion atx/touring..180Kkm. Old thread...price update 😉 My sons driveshaft has split boots, leaked grease everywhere and the cv joint is rough and worn. He’s a conservative driver. I'm guessing that distance is reasonably ok and typical? My daughter has one to so I might look at hers a bit closer. Hers has done 190Kkm. Cost at the local mechanic was ~ $500 inclusive of labour and a reconditioned drive shaft.
  4. Thanks and to Campdean too. Back at the mechanic. Brakes ok, don't need doing yet but next time. 🤔 Only 18Kkms later. Son has been neglecting his vehicle! Can't tell them though 😉
  5. Mechanic said the rear brakes needed sorting: $350. Do that myself I thought. RDC discs and pads ~ $200 delivered, a bottle of dot4 and off with the left rear. Pads are a whisker over 50% worn, discs have barely a lip either side. No shudder on braking, braking feels good. Whilst there I bled that brake circuit. Fluid read 0.50! 😲 Now reads 0.29. 😀 All back together, new discs and pads into the Aurion shelf for when they're really due. It's my sons car. He's a conservative driver. With 45% of the pad left how many kms before I should have another look d'ya think?
  6. Can anyone vouch for the quality of these e.bay grills please? Someone has backed into my sons car and the grill has a few slight cracks in it now. It was knocked off the lugs on one side but the lugs weren't broken. There are some cracks in the grill however and I'd like to replace it. Ebay has them for $200 (in Oz https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/For-Toyota-Aurion-Gsv40-Grille-Front-10-06-08-09-F70-irg-uayt/163183471251?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D8eda11e6bafc4bab9a16cbc8c5858f22%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D163183471251%26itm%3D163183471251&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A3cff2399-9260-11e9-96ba-74dbd180ac9d|parentrq%3A6e8b819516b0a9e42e43d513ffde35a1|iid%3A1) to ~$400 (from Taiwan). The bodywork around the front end all looks ok, seemingly sprung back into its original position? Cheers
  7. I got these... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/254132457752
  8. Looking at replacing front discs and pads. Anyone have some up to date suggestions re good prices, including parts to avoid? Family car, doesn't need performance gear. Cheers
  9. I'll be putting an Exide Extreme X55D23CMF Battery with 650cca and a 42 month warranty into my daughters 08 Prodigy. $155 from Croydon Auto Electrics in Croydon, Vic. Good price.👍 Her battery showed a State of Health reading of 20%...it's still working ok but it's been in the car a looong time so getting in before I get a roadside call.
  10. Too late. I bought some! I'll give 'em a try. My son also has an Aurion so maybe I'll swap a cheap one over with an older oem one and split 'em between the two cars.
  11. Thanks @campbeam. All as you describe though adjustment was very close first up. The drivers side at the bracket is ever so slightly lower than the adjacent panel. The latch was a bit bent so opening and closing requires a little brutane. I'll need to see how I can improve that. I might try and source another latch. The struts are also sagging, though they weren't last week...so I'll need a new pair.
  12. Easy enough. Two bolts either side separate the bonnet from the bracket, L&R. The C shaped clip holding the struts in place were fiddly, but once I worked out to use a flat screwdriver to loosen them enough it was done. 10 minute job really
  13. Yep, I'm after one. I'm in Croydon, Vic. Cheers.
  14. Howdy. I need to remove the bonnet of a 2008 Prodigy. Are there any tricks to know? Support bonnet, struts off, windscreen hose disconnect, undo bolts at the hinge. Anything unusual in the technique? Then, the front bumper too. Any "gotcha's" there? Thanks.
  15. Just drove Melbourne Adelaide return. Wet weather and a slight headwind to Adelaide. On leaving Melbourne, I filled with 98RON until it spluttered a little out the hole. Pretty full. We added 95RON 59.95 litres at 755kms. The warning light had been on for a while but it hadn't quite got to 0. To return, I filled with 95RON 'til it spluttered full. After 745 kms and with the 0 showing for 15 kms I added 58 litres. Seems I might've gone another 75kms! tO aDELAIDE, IT GOT DOWN TO 7.6L/100KM..oops..return to Melbourne it was down to 7.3l/100kms.

  17. Thanks cranky. Denso better than Champion Denso d'ya think? They're around the same price. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/361231499929?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  18. Anyone have a lead on cheap iridium plugs that work well for the Aurion? Cheapest I can find is $16 for Champion 9006 iridiums on Ebay.
  19. $60 would be great. I've been quoted b/w $120 & $299 for the front pads (bendix) and machining. Everyone recommends machining. There is a slight pulsation when braking.
  20. Check the intermediate shaft spline isn't knocking or has been fixed.
  21. Is this intermediate shaft spline issue still a problem in newer models to watch for?
  22. Drive belt, meaning timing belt? I thought the 2GR-FE has a chain? Change only necessary if it goes bad?
  23. Inspected...yep, know what that means and is why I included "lots of inspections". But they did rotate at least two wheels as one of them had a "mark" on it that is now in an opposite position. This place has usually provided a good service. That's been supported by a few other locals too. They musta inspected the brakes as they reported them. I can do them myself.
