  1. Black please tell me you bought it from a merc dealer! how many km's? Good car, acres of room, just don't do too many of those 0-100km dashes if you want to have any reasonable consumption figures..lol
  2. C-class as we just weren't using all the space and seats in Kluger and in the meantime we were lugging 2 tonnes of car around. So now with the C we can still fit a medium size adult between the booster seats and the boot is bordering on enormous, the performance is WOW and obviously the handling is very different. Having said all that, I personally still rate the Kluger and no question its a very good car.
  3. Hi all, although not a large contributor to the discussions i nonetheless kept a regular watch over this forum and thank you to all those very knowledgeable folks who often answer questions and provide advice that is almost always correct. As the heading suggests the Kluger is sold, I went into a dealership over the weekend for a bit of a sticky and let's just say that what started off as a bit of a joke become quite serious when they put a changer-over figure on the table that was too good to let go. So if anyone or you know of anyone looking for a second hand late '07 KXS-AWD with less than 30,000kms silver pearl in absolutely mint condition keep an eye out on the car sites. Not sure which dealer will end up with it as the car i assume will be wholesaled (if that is even a word). Sam

    Clunky gearbox

i haven't experienced any such jerkiness (if that's a word) as you describe, but i have noticed on ocassion the low speed indecisiveness and i generally put that down to the light throttle applications/torque converter/drivetrain slack particularly with the AWD. Everything i just said could ofcourse be a load of c^^p and not even close to the mark as i am not a mechanic
  5. well if that turns out to be the case, then to quote a great line form a great movie..."tell'em their dreamin" ;)
  6. hi all, i've just gone onto he Toyota website and saw that as part of the options available there is a rear seat entertainment package comprising of individual screens which seem to mount below the front seat headrests. on reading the blurb that goes with the pictures it would appear that each screen works independantly of the other so i presume each screen has its own drive and the like. I've called my local dealer to inquire but he was none the wiser, has anyone here made any inquires? Cost? Thanks
  7. I was at the tyre shop on the weekend discussing tyres for my car and mentioned that the wife's Kluger would be up for rubber in another 5,000k's or so. I was told that Hancook will be releasing a tyre in the next few weeks or so in sizing to suit...finaly some more competition for Bridgestone
  8. wilscat i think you'll find that _kit_ is right on the $ with what he is saying. Because i have the same noise in the same circumstances as you have detailed. The first time i came across this noise was with our previous RAV and i must say it caught me by surprise because all my other cars have never done it.Now with the Kluger same thing as the RAV, i presume its a characteristic of the brake calipers used by Toyota. But as i said, not a characteristic of all cars or calipers.

would Toyota even consider a diesel option...one would assume that once the Territory lands with a diesel....Toyota will do something, its not as if they have a shortage of diesel egines to choose from

MJC nice unit, how did u go with steerig wheel buttons and functionality?
  11. our is the silver, but i personally like the glacier, in fact saw an Altidute in glacier at Phil Gilbert last saturday...was there with a cousin of mine who is looking at buying a Klug...unfortunately for him the numbers with his trade-in don't quite stack up. in true life the glacier and silver are very different as for the sage...i have to say that its not one of my most favourite...but hey others on forum i'm sure really like it
  12. personally i don't think there is any chance of the venza coming out this way. cost associated with switching to RHD alone not to mention idiocentric ADR's would not be justified by our tiny market...pricing would be another issue....i don't think there is enough fat between Klug and RX then again who are we to second guess ;) toyota world

    tailshaft clunk

Hey Croy, no as far as i can tell the sound is coming from the back 1/2 of the car, somewhere under say the back seat.

    Polaris Satnav

MJC, i looked at the polaris and was put off a little by the quality or lack thereof....just didn't quite seem right...having said that i suppose at the right price...what the heck. If you've followed the posts you would have seen that Mikeboy is a bit of a guru with most things electrical and he has actually upgraded the unit in his KX-R with a Kenwood (very nice!) i'm still looking and hoping that all this doom and gloom and GFC business (can i mention the "R" word, seems like everyone else is at the moment) will mean i can haggle just a little harder with the audio guys. For what its worth there's an Eclipse unit AVN600 (i think) soon to be replaced = negotiate hard and really get a good deal. As you may know Eclipse is the retail arm of Fujtitzu (did i spell that right...not even close)... as such i think you'll find that wiring harnesses and stuff like that a ready to go so you can keep all your steering button functions.
  15. i agree with Black, Glug and PC...provided u drive the thing as intended...(if u want sensational handling by an X5/6)...and accept that a vehicle of its type is not without its limitations then no issue. we've had ours for just on 12 months or so...done alomost 12K...most on highway driving...with the usual issues that driving of that nature throws at you...semis...right lane hogs....and people that travel the freeway once every 2 years...and to date not once have i marked the undies because of some inherent stability issue. as for those that will say "ofcourse these guys will talk up their cars...they spent $X...they are not about to rubbish them"...well i drove just about everything in the $50-$65K bracket...and once u weigh up all the pros and cons its a no brainer
  16. BBB, we had an '03 RAV extreme prior to trading up to the current model Kluger it was the 2ltr automatic. from personal experience i can honestly say that it was one of the most reliable cars i've ever owned...put simply...it was a case of petrol and drive. i think provided it has been regularly serviced either by dealer or competent mechanic u should be fine. the only thing to keep in mind (yes there's always a "but") is that fuel consumption particularly with the auto is in my opinion a little on the high side...especially around town....i think we were averaging about 14lt/100km...having said that on the freeway u should be getting around 9-10 resale i think you'll find that the 5 door is probably a little better than the 3, given as you have pointed out that you get a little bit more room/flexibility particularly for kids in the future and yet the overall length is there or there about to sum up i guess i would say an honest car provided u accept and drive it as intended....ie not a sports car....not a true off-road Sam

    tailshaft clunk

hey all, i've recently driven the Klug (wife's car) and noticed the ocassional "clunk" sound from the tailshaft (i think) not too loud or anything but enough to notice....seems to happen when slowing down say approaching a round-a-bout...not coming to complete stop...and then gentle gas to go through...i recall that our prevoius RAV also exhibited a similar sound....is this a common thing because of the AWD system. I'm guessing that in some instances there is a little slack in the drivetrain that ocassionally gets picked up when accelerating hence the "clunk" certainly welcome ur opinions. Cheers Sam
  18. holmesie, is the switch next to the seat warmers for the NOS ?!
  19. luck3y how did you go with those Yoki's, any chance of some pics??
  20. Chaps, on this issue of treadwear I'm happy to be corrected, but I was under the impression that the higher the no. the harder the compound. I don't know if I would want harder compound tyres, but I certainly understand where others who need tyre replacement in 15K-20K are coming from. I'm a little fortunate I guess in that we do less than 10K a year. Having said that I had a close look over the weekend and there's probably only another 10K or so left on them, although they do seem to be wearing quite evenly.
  21. I had these on our previous RAV, obviously as a 16 inch, they were OK. although I felt that the Bridgies from factory were better. For what its worth I think I paid $150 each at the time and that was about 3 years ago. I notice that the ones for our Freddies 255/55 (upsize) are V rated so I guess there will be a premium attached as a result.
  22. hi all, just organised for the kluger to go in for its 20K service next week and was asked by the service bloke if i wanted to carry out the injector cleaner service (extra $95). i mentioned to him that i only ever run min 95RON, to which his reponse was (possibly a legit one) that carbon and other deposits build up regardless. what do you clever boys and girls think? $95 buys alot of injector cleaner from REPCO or autobarn Cheers
  23. there has been a number of threads on this topic (re replacement tyres) and i have done some searching myself for alternate rubber, eventhough my wife's car has only done about 9.5K and there is still plenty of tread, I fugure there is no harm in seeing what is available. Kwach, your point on the 255/55 option is a good one and there certainly quite a few brands not least of all conti, michelin, which as far as i'm concerned are better than the bridgestone on there at the moment, but i recall from a previous thread that there may be an issue of clearance between the strut tower and the tyres on the rear. good luck and keep us posted

    Nudge Bar

Hello all, A quick question with regard to the alloy nudge bar that some of you have fitted to your Klugers. Due to the fact that our Freddy lives outside most of the time I've noticed that the nudge bar has i guess what can be best described as weather marks/water stains (mostly from the c**p that floats around in the air) which don't come off with normal washing. My question is have any of you found a product that cleans the alloy on the nudge bar and brings back the shine that it had when first fitted by the dealer? is normal car polish Ok to use (personally I only use maguire's products) Cheers :)
