  1. Hi, Any auto sparkies here able to assist? I'm trying to install a Gentex Auto Dimm Mirror onto the Tarago but before I go out to purchase one, here is my issue. I am trying to avoid going down the A Pillars (Airbags) route and just using the unused Auto Sliding Door/Moon Roof 8 pin plug up tugged near the dome lights. Using a multi meter, there is power to the wires when it is on ACC/Ignition On, however when a door is open power is activated again and goes way in about 1-2 minutes. But the weird thing is (on all wires) there seems to be a small voltage (<1V) constant going through the wires - this creates somewhat of a slight issue, I don't really want the mirror to power itself on and off when doors are open. The pinouts are as follows: 1 - Nothing 2 - White/Black Stripes (Ground) 3 - Green 4 - Pink 5 - Yellow 6 - Nothing 7 - White/Black Stripes (Ground) same as 2 8 - Darker Green In the manual it states that the moon roof button should only have power when the key ignition is "on" so the plug mentioned is for I'm puzzled about two things: 1. Why is there power (very little) going through to wires even when everything is off? It's like 0.something volts. It should be zero. 2. I can't seem to trace a wire in that plug that is not temporarily activated upon the sliding door being open/shut. See the above pins? I suspect 4 pins are to activate the Left/Right door sliders on automatic door models and 2 is for the moon roof on available models. My best bet is the moon roof ones as the manual states it only activates or powers on when on ignition on but I can't seem to find any wires that have this and are zero when totally off? Thanks in advance.
  2. Hi, I own a 2012 GLX Tarago and I think from memory (don't quote me) it says 95RON is recommended on the manual/handbook, not sure it it's a requirement though. Additionally see this article: http://www.motoring.com.au/toyota-tarago-v6-2815/ It was written in 2007 but I think the engine for the V6 is the same. Second last paragraph of the article states: "Running 10.8:1 compression, the V6 has preference for premium 95 RON petrol, yet accepts standard 91 RON without complaint." I pretty much use 91 RON but probably use 95 RON once a month per refuelling. I have a relative with the same car/engine albeit being a bit older - a 2010 GLI V6 Tarago. She and her husband always uses 91 RON. Personally I'm not sure if its a placebo effect either but I feel it's slightly smoother/tinge more powerful when using 95 RON.
  3. A bit of an update on this. Whilst I have re-run a new cable from the back of the Tarago itself, I am determined to see where the h*ll that socket at the back ends up. So far as I can trace the socket (4 wires) merges into a blue jacket (appears as a thick blue wire) from the socket and travels all the way up to the black grommet on top of the back door. It then travels onto the left side of the cargo down the side near the foot of the third row of seats. I don't know the continuity between the roof and that part though, I do see a thick blue cable in the bundle of wires running on the passenger side of the floor. I suspect it does end up somewhere on the left passenger foot well. Will keep you all posted on my findings in future!!
  4. Hi Wapa1, Reviving an old thread and a longshot as I see you have not been active in ages here, but it would be greatly appreciated if you could point out or even better post a photo of the exact wire. The bulb at the back seems to be a Red Wire with a blue line through it, cant seem to find any wires like that at the passenger kick panel. Thanks heaps!!
  5. Hi Jungleman, Logging in as taragonewbie (old fb account got logged out)...anyway, as strange as this sounds, I have received quotes of 3 people: 1. Quoted $180, 2 hours work. Was reluctant to do it because it was a small job and seemed like he had bigger jobs. 2. Quoted $350 min, apparently 4 hours work. Had to "remove all panels" wtf? 3. Quoted $250, said between 1-2 hours work. This is a relatively easy set up but I'm a bit worried if I do it myself and short circuit it or accidentally zap of the airbag sensor wires. I've worked out where I'd run the wires (back of radio deck, along passenger side door sills through gromit to boot lid), which is what the auto sparkies would do...I have no idea why they'd have to remove so many panels when most videos/professionals seem to run it via the door sills...
  6. because of the speakers facing downwards towards ur knees/thigh, the fronts just didnt sound that good/loud no matter what was in them...
  7. had mine for about 2 yrs now (got it in nov 2006), 35,000kms... it's not a bad clutch/tranmission but nowhere near honda's...use to own a honda 1980 accord as my first car @ 18 (back in 1999)...had a damn light clutch and shifts were quite smooth. the rav4's isnt bad but: 1) has a really deep clutch 2) throw isnt as short as other cars 3) clunky, especially 1st to 2nd gear 4) clutch is not all that light.
  8. 2006 rav4 cv manual here... 9.1 litres/100kms lowest 11.3 highest avg is around about 10ish with mixed driving.
  9. use to own a 1990 CSX manual camry... 3.5" paper cone stock speakers in front and 5.25" rears. having said that you can fit 4" in front and 6" in the back. i replaced the stock with pioneers - back and front and a entry level pioneer mp3 player. sounded great but better with an amp, the stock cones were quite efficient, however, but only 1 way so it sounded flat.
