  1. I have recently purchased a 2011 Hilux. can anyone recommend a good 2-3" lift kit that will provide plenty of flex. I have a aluminium tray, and a steel bullbar. It has leaf springs in the rear and coils in the front. i am after a comfy ride, most offroad driving will be on soft sand and corrugated roads also after recommendations for good tyres for sand. Thanks.
  2. Hello everyone, I did some research already but I still cannot find the answer to my question. I am still a bit green when it comes to this topic so feel free to redirect me to another post. I have a 2003 Toyota Hilux 270VX with a 2.5L D4D 2KD-FTV engine without an intercooler. I was planning to add a bullbar, air snorkel and some bigger tyres on my pickup and wanted to get some more power from the engine (as it will be doing more work). As it is I already feel that it is a bit laggy from standstill and was wondering if adding an intercooler would help. I might consider adding a chip as well. Having said that, should i just get the chip (any product suggestions)? Should i get a top mount or a front mount interooler? I heard that top mount would have less turbo lag which is better for my case but considering that I will mostly be doing city driving with it, i was worried about heat soak after a while. Then again not sure if the snorkel with the front mount will cause even more lag. Should you have any questions please ask Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  4. Hi guys I am new to this whole scene. Current vehicle is a VT Commodore Wagon, for obvious reasons I am looking to upgrade and am pretty sold on a Hilux. Having never owned one before, are there any things in particular I should take note of when inspecting? Also are there any things I should be wary of in the next 5 or so years in terms of overall health of a 2009 model SR5 Hilux. The truck in question is a 2009 SR5 Hilux, automatic, dual cab, 4x4, turbo diesel. Currently has roughly 120xxx K's on the clock and seems to be in fair condition. Haggled the owner down to about $25K from $29k. Any input would be much appreciated, as would criticism. Cheers.

  6. I have a 91 live axle sr5 with a 2 inch lift running 285\75 R16 federals but they just scrub the gaurd Was wondering how easy or hard it is to move the front axle forward and are there any other problems created by doing this THANKS IN ADVANCE:)
  7. 2 years of utter frustration with my Bluetooth and my Toyota Dealer say its not their problem. As a travelling sales person I have covered 99,000 km in 23 months in utter frustration with the Bluetooth. I can hear them and everyone says its sound like I am under water.I have a Iphone 6. Final inspection is up, probably will get the same response from Toyota when I complain about it. OK car for the job if you don't need a phone, seriously thinking of changing cars. A $16,000 Hyundi rental have near perfect bluetooths. Is there anyone having this same issue? Secondly, my toyota canopy has had a broken lock for 13 weeks and they still can't get a part. What happens to issues that keep recurring are they still under warranty?

  10. Hi Guys, I'm new here and with Hilux so bare with me. My truck is a Hilux 2000, LN146R, 3.0L Diesel, 5L, D4 Recently bought it and was driving around when the truck made a weird noise and the steering became stiff, open the bonnet and found the pulley on the power steering pump and belt has come OFF (lucky it did not caught onto the radiator fan). The teeths inside the pulley is shredded to the point it is nearly bold. The shaft from the power steering pump has its thread completely grinded down, lost the nut (come to think of it not sure if there is one or if there is even a thread), but the teeth is still in good shape (85%-90%). The belt is fine no cuts no bruises. So I am wondering what is my best option at the moment: -Buy a new Pulley (definitely), cant see anyway of salvaging it The biggest headache is the power steering pump shaft. -can I replace just the shaft itself because pump is working just fine no leak or anything (is that possible and is it easy to do it? tutorial?). Saves me from emptying out the power steering fluid. my mate also recommended that the shaft is fine, it still has the teeths, just need to make a new thread at the end of the shaft for the nut to hold the pulley. or worse case new power steering pump, quite expensive from what I heard, plus power steering fluid on top of that. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance. Also one last question, how long can I run my truck without power steering pump working? Kind Regards, Bill
  11. Gday, This is my first post on here, I really hope this is in the correct spot! Here's my question, I went and looked at a 1990 SR5 hilux on the weekend. the battery gauge, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, taco and aircon all didn't work, I was told this is because of a wiring short that occurred while hooking up a roof mounted spot light (the wiring short blew a fuse). Are all of these things on the same fuse and is it as simple as putting in a new fuse to fix the problem? Any help will be muchly appreciated! Cheers, Aaron.

Its time to start fitting her out and make her the beast should should be. Hey People I recently purchased a 2002 Hilux Single Cab and my only qualm is the bench seat in across the front.The car came with a lot of after market accessories so I have saved myself a pretty penny in that regard however I wish to overhall the seating arrangement in the vehicle. Its a bit beyond my know how so does anybody know any mechanic, car builder that could help me remove the bench seat and make it a comfortable 2 seater. My girlfriend and I are planning an around Australia trip. If anyone can help I am located in South Western Sydney, NSW. Cheers
  14. Hey guys! welcome to my first post! I am currently in the early stages of a 1kz-te conversion on my 94 dual cab lux as i shagged my 2.8. i have gone and sourced an intercooled 1kz-te out of a 99 Prado for a very reasonable price and an even more reasonable one for the entire car. For the conversion i need (from what i know) - Engine........ - KZN GB - KZN bellhousing - wiring loom to suit - 1 piece tail shaft THIS IS WHERE MY PROBLEM ARISES! The prado i have found would be great value for money if i buy it whole and grab what i need before parting/ scrapping the rest. However this particular prado happens to be an auto.. It got me thinking whether i should just buy the engine and TRY find the rest of what i need OR if an auto conversion using the GB/ tranny out of the prado would be possible? Not the biggest fan of auto but it would make an interesting result. Any opinions or tips? Maybe someone has done this conversion before? Note i will be performing a rebuild on the 1kz due to the 240xxx on the clock. just for good measure.
  15. Well, after a bad dose of the "Man-Flu" and being dosed up on drugs (the legal kind, of course) My flares didnt stand the 'brick letterbox' test. I'm just hoping someone on here knows what years i can interchange as Im not even close to interested in buying a new drivers side rear flare at the princely sum of $508 + gst (unpainted, fk me!!!) So anyone wrecking a sterling silver tray/tub Id like to hear from you or those with the knowledge of the compatible years of my 2013 sr5 lux.
  16. ok so i have just bought a 2010 SR hilux and noticed that the two little front "indicator/parking lights" on the bulbar where damaged, i bought a new set of LED Narva "indicator/parking lights" for both drivers and passenger sides which i installed, once fitted i tested the lights and noticed that the indicators where flashing twice as fast as normal (which i think is because of the different resistance loads?) anyway i just drove around for about a month or two with fast flashing indicators when all of a sudden yesterday morning on my way to work every time indicated the hazard lights would come on! would have a clue why, maybe its because of the new LED front lights?? Cheers love to find the solution

  18. Greetings to one and all. Was curious to see if anyone else had a v8 Hilux and what sort of radiator they had in it. I have a 79 RN46 model with a Holden 308, standard 4 speed with a LN46 radiator and 16 inch thermo fan. Only problem is it gets hot when not running at speed, arouns 40 kph or under even with the fan. Was looking for alternatives to keep this one cool, as its 4WD capabilities are nil. It runs straight gas, goes like a dream on the road now it has a 3.58 centre in the back from 4.875, front diff not yet changed over. When time permits!!
  19. Hi Everyone, I just won a brand new (2014) Hilux SR5 manual diesel. As this is the first diesel 4x4 I have owned, I am still deciding whether to keep it or not. I have added a canopy and rubber matting to the tray, the main use so far has been carrying 4 sets of golf clubs when I car pool with some mates, and the weekly shopping. Looking forward to browsing some topics in the forums.....
  20. Hi all, new here!, just trying to find the correct method to correct my annoying problem. I have a 1998 sr5 dual cab 4x4 with a 5l non turbo in it. everything has been maintained to the the highest standard, although recently it has started to puff black smoke when under load in 2nd and 3rd gear.Not all that much but enough to have me paranoid. I know these motors are quite dirty and i should allow for alittle smoke now and then under heavy conditions, but under acceleration with an empty tub, it seems to blow smoke. Its just hit 300,000 its just had a fresh aircleaner and fuel filter at service. I have used some injector cleaner as a quick solution , but it hasn't done the job. I'm expecting either injectors or fuel pump to be on there way out. Just wondering if there has been anybody else with similar issuses and whats the best way about resolving it. Any information regarding this topic would be greatly appreciated Cheers Sam
  21. Hi everyone. My dad has a '05 hilux 3L TD D4-D White the first of the new shape, after spending a fair bit of money on redoing the injectors because they weren't coded right or something dad didn't explain it well. Seeing as I am going to help pay we have decided on a new exhaust then a bull bar reversing lights (small square flood lights), then a light bar on the bull bar. We are going for the colour coded ARB Alloy with the Warn Winch (not a full 4wder but do go on hunting trips). Not sure what LED Cree light bar. (any opinions would be great) We are unsure on what way to do the exhaust, I have done a little reading and some say to do a 3" dump then 2.75" for the rest of the exhaust because the 3" all the way is too big. Or would you suggest to do 2.75" all the way? Also whats the opinion the on chip my diesel or the dp chip if we did one? I have read bad results on them that's all. Would be grateful for any help and advice! Thanks
  22. Hi guys, I am new to this forum, but not new to 4WDing. Forgive me if this is in the wrong section, or there is a similar post already existing; I did do my research before hand :) I bought a 2.2 Liter Diesel 1981 Hilux (LN46) and I took it out in the mud the first day I got it. Soon after, all the dash lights came on and the alternator was no longer charging :( I have taken it out, got it tested at the autoelectrics and they quoted me $400 to refurbish it (apparently it was stuffed) or $450 for a new one. The truth is, I paid $1000 for the lux as a 'bash-around' so I am not willing to pay nearly half the price of the car after one 4WD trip. My question is: What other alternators will bolt straight into my engine bay, e.g. what other Toyota models? My alternator DOES have a oil/vacuum pump at the BACK of the alternator. I want to get away from this cheap, so I am looking around at wreckers, but I am not sure which models are interchangeable with mine. Thanks heaps!
  23. Hey guys got a few issues with our yn67. It's a recent purchase, goes all right but their are lots of vacuum hoses not connected or blocked off and a few parts are broken. Just need help connecting the vacuum hoses up to the correct pipe and help finding the parts which need replacing. Thanks.
  24. Hi Gang, I have a 1996 manual diesel Hilux, duel cab. I used to own a 1990 4runner (diesel, manual also) previously and find there is a dramatic power difference. Both have the same old 2.8L diesel non turbo engine. The Hilux is in top condition with 296,000kms and the 4Runner had nearly 450,000kms. the power difference between the two is quite dramatic! the older 4Runner with plenty more kms had a lot more power, particularly on hills. Other friends who have Hilux's with same engine but different years have the same sort of power as my old 4Runner. Does anyone have an idea as to why that may be???? I'm thinking it must be either a different gear or diff ratio in some models. The Hilux has one of their 4WD to 2WD gear sticks with the push button to change from 2 to 4. I'm not keen on it but an stuck with it. Not sure if that indicates a different gear box??? anyone anyone......?? Cheers
  25. Hi All, have gotten some handy info off this board already. Live in remote WA so it's been really useful for me. Have recently purchased an 01 Hilux, dualcab, 3L diesel. Happy with it for sure, but a bit of work to be done and living so far from civilisation means I'm doing it myself. First thing I'm tackling is a short. The 15A dome fuse blows after 2-3 seconds of popping in a new one. Unfortunately I've run out of fuses and have to wait for my box of 50 and multimeter to come with the postie which might be a while yet. Pulled off the dash panels to see if it was anything obvious and one thing has stuck out. The previous owner has installed an aftermarket stereo (aftermarket immobiliser and spotties too, but they're both working fine) and run a wire which I don't entirely understand. Basically they've crimped in a thickish wire (3-4mm), black outer with red inner, on to the blue-yellow at 1J - 12, just below the junction. This wire runs over to the stereo and has been soldered into a 3-way connection with the stereo's yellow 12v constant + blue/yellow from the wiring harness. I got my diagrams from hilux4x4.co.za/manual if anyone is interested. I'm not really sure what this is for, but they have also cut the wire and left it hanging so that the 3-way connection is still there, just the black with red is hanging loose. Have taped it off, it still popped a fuse though. Any idea what this wire is for? Should I remove it given it's just hanging? Suggestions on good place to look for the short? Cheers, Bowzzzer
