  1. Hi all, I'm on the hunt for a rear tailshaft for my '01 Hilux, haven't had much luck with wreckers as its the first thing to go when they pick cars up with a forklift. Just wondering if any of the shafts are interchangeable between different models? Mines a kzn165 with a straight, one piece shaft (no centre bearing), I know some of the surfs and LN models have similar looking ones and I've found a few on gum tree etc. Will any of the shafts from other models fit my ute? I've got a dual cab, manual 3.0l diesel kzn... Thanks in advance
  2. Hey all, I have a question for all of you, just wondering if a 2011 Extra Cab (1.5 Cab) Tray would fit a 2001 Extra cab, are the bolt patterns for the tray the same?
  3. Hey guys, so I've got an 01 MR2, I've had the pre cats removed as a precaution but unfortunately i now have an engine light one, can anyone help?
  4. Hi all - anyone with a Rav4 from 2001-2003 ever experienced problems with gears changing at random? This is a problem with the computer (ECU or ECM) that is sending the wrong message to the transmission and it changes into the wrong gear without warning. This is known as 'harsh shift' problem: http://www.rav4repair.com/documents/TSB0156.pdf If you have this problem, or had it, it is really important that you report it to the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development ASAP: https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/complaints_recalls/form_submission.aspx They investigate products that have safety issues and will inform the ACCC if a recall is necessary. A recall will not happen unless there are reports of the product failure and safety concerns through the Department of Infrastructure. I am looking at the possibility of starting a class action for a recall because this is a factory fault that is putting Rav4 drivers in danger. It is well documented and well understood by Toyota. These are the most common symptoms: Erratic Shifting.Transmission slips in any gear, but mostly from second to third gear.Starting in 3rd gear and shifting erratically or not shifting at all.Hesitation when engaging in any of the gears.Rattling noise coming from the front area when the engine is running. The feeling of applying the brakes by it self in occasions.False solenoid codes; P0750, P0753, P0755, P0758 and/or P1760.The codes above not always show (DTC codes). Sometimes it fails with no codes at all or no check engine light.Engages hard in reverse with a "bump" or takes time to engage.Symptoms are intermittent. Sometimes symptoms only show up when warm or when cold and sometimes symptoms do not show at all.One day it runs OK. All the symptoms magically disappear, but the next day, all or some of those symptoms are back.In many cases, fuel economy or gas mileage is lower than normal. This is a safety concern as the car can shift into a low gear without warning while you are driving at high speed or in heavy traffic. Because it is a gear change, break lights don't warn cars behind you that you are suddenly stopping or slowing down, putting you in a dangerous situation. I have also been stuck trying to cross traffic at an intersection and it has dropped into top gear and I cannot move across the intersection and out of the traffic. I have been in touch with the ACCC who are looking into the matter as there was a recall by Toyota in USA: http://www.rav4repair.com/documents/warranty.pdf If anyone is experiencing these problems or has had this fixed and you are interested in putting pressure on Toyota for a recall in Australia, please contact me. If this happens, the costs of your repairs could be reimbursed. Toyota_warranty policy bulletin.pdf
  5. Hi everyone. The topic title says it all, really. If I top up when the fuel light comes on, I can put in only 40 litres. But the spec I've seen on-line is 55 litres. So firstly, does my car really have a 55 litre tank? And if so, why would the fuel light come on with 200 km of range left? Cheers... PS: my first post, and my first corolla!
  6. Hi there Toyota owners, Would like some help replacing the aircon/heater controls in my car. The hot/cold ratchet in the centre has had its gear teeth stripped over the years. I pulled the entire module out and there seem to be all electrical connectors except 3 which are mechanical wires. One controls the the fresh/recirculate while the other 2 go to the hot/cold rachet. In order to replace the module, I need to know how to disconnect the 2 mechanical wires that go to the hot/cold rachet. Or i need to know where these wires go to in the engine bay, so i can disconnect them there. Thankyou very much for your assistance. Let me know if you need any more information and I will be more than willing to provide. Here is an image of what the control module looks like, for reference. Regards, Aussieboy
  7. Hi All, have gotten some handy info off this board already. Live in remote WA so it's been really useful for me. Have recently purchased an 01 Hilux, dualcab, 3L diesel. Happy with it for sure, but a bit of work to be done and living so far from civilisation means I'm doing it myself. First thing I'm tackling is a short. The 15A dome fuse blows after 2-3 seconds of popping in a new one. Unfortunately I've run out of fuses and have to wait for my box of 50 and multimeter to come with the postie which might be a while yet. Pulled off the dash panels to see if it was anything obvious and one thing has stuck out. The previous owner has installed an aftermarket stereo (aftermarket immobiliser and spotties too, but they're both working fine) and run a wire which I don't entirely understand. Basically they've crimped in a thickish wire (3-4mm), black outer with red inner, on to the blue-yellow at 1J - 12, just below the junction. This wire runs over to the stereo and has been soldered into a 3-way connection with the stereo's yellow 12v constant + blue/yellow from the wiring harness. I got my diagrams from hilux4x4.co.za/manual if anyone is interested. I'm not really sure what this is for, but they have also cut the wire and left it hanging so that the 3-way connection is still there, just the black with red is hanging loose. Have taped it off, it still popped a fuse though. Any idea what this wire is for? Should I remove it given it's just hanging? Suggestions on good place to look for the short? Cheers, Bowzzzer
