My Toyota hilux is having issues with the fuel pump. Currently it takes 5sec min of cranking before the fuel gets to the motor and it starts. I've had it at the mechanic and he has replaced the fuel pump because the fuel pressure was lower than it should be but after picking it up from him it is still having the same issue when starting. I was thinking it could be some thing to do with the fuel resister with not enough volts on start up? Also does any one know if the fuel pump only starts when cranking or when the ignition is turned to on?
Hi I have a 2002 4x4 v6 petrol hilux pushing 250,000 kms and it has a loud whistling sound I think coming from the fuel pump. Used to just happen when it was lowish on fuel but now always does it. Looking for any advice on what might be wrong or what I can do? Thanks
Hey there, I'm new to this forum but I have owned my van for nearly 2 years and I drive it to work every day. Last week it started losing power at high revs and under acceleration which continued to get worse to the point where it would no longer idle. I had the same problem when I first got the van so I got a mechanic to flush the tank and change the fuel pump and she was all sweet until now. From what I've read the cheap after market pumps only last about 12 months before they die so I assume that is what's happened. This time I'm going to fix it myself so I know it's done right. So far I've replaced the fuel filter up near the engine but that didn't fix the problem. I have dropped the tank out and I'm now going to replace the fuel pump. My question is this, what is a good quality fuel pump that will not give up again further down the track (possibly Bosch or walbro?). And also just so I know if I'm on the right track, the photo that I have attached is the fuel pump right? Thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated :)
Noticed the other day after I had parked my car in the garage that there was a strange noise coming from the back of it after it had been turned off. Last night, noticed it again and took a video (ableit there being no picture because it was dark, you can still hear the sound). Its coming from the back of the car, underneath the boot. Seems to be louder on the passenger side. It sounds almost like air escaping or somthing,. maybe from the fuel system? The only way i noticed it is because i happen to live in a quiet part of town Does anyone elses car do this? Dont know if its anything to be alarmed about.
