  1. Arthritis makes steering difficult when parking. Can I get power steering fitted?
  2. Hello, I have a 2004 Hilux V6 ExtraCab, VZN172R which is leaking power sterling fluid. With the engine running and turning the steering we can see the fluid running out from the Pitman joint. Was wondering if this is a common thing before we have a go at fixing it. Watched plenty of YouTube videos but cannot see any for a Hilux, although basically the same principle for them all. Thoughts....
  3. Hi everyone I looking at buying a vehicle and was going through the maintenance history when I spotted a power steering stop leak charge(done a year ago) To get some information I rang the place that worked on the car and was able to find the owner the operator who looked through the records and told me that the stop leak was used to fix a leak and the stuff he used was proven(softened the seals)and at the recent check(road worthy) there were no leaks. I asked him how often I would need to use the stuff and he said I just need to change the fluid and make sure its clean and I wouldn't have to. Is it worth picking up this car or should I shop around. Would like some insights into costs involved in case there were repairs involved in the future. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi Guys, I'm new here and with Hilux so bare with me. My truck is a Hilux 2000, LN146R, 3.0L Diesel, 5L, D4 Recently bought it and was driving around when the truck made a weird noise and the steering became stiff, open the bonnet and found the pulley on the power steering pump and belt has come OFF (lucky it did not caught onto the radiator fan). The teeths inside the pulley is shredded to the point it is nearly bold. The shaft from the power steering pump has its thread completely grinded down, lost the nut (come to think of it not sure if there is one or if there is even a thread), but the teeth is still in good shape (85%-90%). The belt is fine no cuts no bruises. So I am wondering what is my best option at the moment: -Buy a new Pulley (definitely), cant see anyway of salvaging it The biggest headache is the power steering pump shaft. -can I replace just the shaft itself because pump is working just fine no leak or anything (is that possible and is it easy to do it? tutorial?). Saves me from emptying out the power steering fluid. my mate also recommended that the shaft is fine, it still has the teeths, just need to make a new thread at the end of the shaft for the nut to hold the pulley. or worse case new power steering pump, quite expensive from what I heard, plus power steering fluid on top of that. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance. Also one last question, how long can I run my truck without power steering pump working? Kind Regards, Bill
  5. Hi guys, I've noticed my Sportivo has left a small spot of red/pink fluid on the garage floor. As it was located at the front drivers side I'm presuming it is power steering fluid. Has anyone else experienced this type of leak on their Sportivo? Would it be best to take it to a dealer or can anyone recommend a professional mechanic in Sydney who knows what they are doing and uses genuine parts? Thanks in advance :)
  6. Just bought my dads 1986 YR31 4wd Tarago from him and among other things it needs new oil seals in the power steering rack, Was wondering if anyone had any for sale? Or if any other Toyota seals would work in its place like from the YR20/22? Or from any other toyota.
  7. Hi All, Just recently replaced the dogbone "Steady Bar" on my old mans Camry (2AZ-FE) and noticed quite a few oil leaks down the right hand side of the engine, also some leaks around the valve cover and power steering very damp around the reservoir and hoses. Dad has been complaining about the oil level on the dipstick slowly going down.. Car only has about 70,000kms on it Firstly the power steering leak, the whole reservoir and both feed and return hoses were quite damp with p/s oil. The oil level seemed to be a bit below the low marker. I traced the feed hose all the way down behind the engine to the p/s pump and could see the pump and high pressure fitting were quite damp as well. From what I've searched online, it seems the hoses/hose clamps are the main culprits. Anybody here experience this problem? The other leak is the engine oil, there are small signs around the valve cover gasket which I'm planning to replace this weekend, but the more concering leak is around the timing chain cover - best described in the pics below. I haven't a clue where it's coming from, on one corner it looks like it's from the headgasket but it can also be seen behind the pulleys and down the cover. I'm also thinking the PCV valve needs replacing, as there's probably pressure build up in the crankcase (possibly causing some of these leaks) Any help or input appreciated. Cheere fellas
  8. Hi everyone. I have owned my 1991 celica ST for 2 years and planned to sell it soon. Yesterday, the power steering failed. Turning the wheel caused a grating noise and soon enough the car had no power steering. No ps fluid in it's tank so I refilled it to max. After 15 minutes driving to work, fluid level was zero. Obviously it's a major leak. After doing some reading online, it looks like it will cost over $400 to replace the power steering pump. I'm not keen to spend that kind of money and am hoping to find a way to continue to drive the car with no power steering (for about a month until I can afford a new car). I will likely end up taking it to a wreckers due to 800$ in other costs to get RWC. It's in perfect cosmetic condition w recent black paint and only 140,000 ks. Real shame. Anyway what I need to know is, should I remove the power steering pump if I'm to continue driving the car? I don't want to cause damage to the ps rack or any other mechanical issues. I only intend to drive the car <3 km distances to work & for groceries. Anybody with mechanical know-how able to give advice? Thanks
