  1. Hi all, Does anyone have experience installing an aftermarket head unit in a 2015+ Toyota Corolla Ascent Auto (ZRE182R)? I've recently had a sub and amp wired up to the factory head unit using the line out converter built into my amplifier but it sounds terrible. Attached is a photo of what the head unit looks like in my car. Do the factory units in these cars cut bass at higher volumes? Is the factory unit poor quality? I'm looking at installing a Kenwood DMX7017BTS (https://www.kenwood.eu/car/navigation_multimedia/multimedia/DMX7017BTS/) and also want to retain my factory steering controls, reverse camera and USB port. Hoping someone out there has managed to get an aftermarket head unit put in so I can get some advice/feedback on whether it's worth the $1,000+ investment. Thanks!
  2. I bought a second hand 2010 GSV40 Aurion SX6 which had the factory head unit (the premium one, see photo, but might also work on the standard one) was locked saying "Please contact your dealer". Funny enough I found out a manual override for this by just pressing the mode button on the steering wheel which allowed me to use the head unit, but I digress. The only problem is that the head unit would lock itself every time I shut off the car. For me, this is very frustrating. Though a very small issue, I decided to investigate further. Toyota aren't any help at all. They want me to pay them $70 so they can reset it. A procedure so easy to do yourself it literally takes 30 seconds. So I got my hands on some GSV40 literature and went digging further, but the only thing I found was that if you hold the buttons 1 and 6 together and simultaneously press DISC three times, you will get a diagnostics mode where you can look at DTC codes and get some useful information. However this was only a soft diagnostics mode. So I started trying to do other button combinations to see if I can get lucky, and lo and behold, I hit jackpot. There are actually three "hidden" diagnostic modes that you are able to get into. All three modes can navigated with the corresponding function buttons (the numbers), Seek (up and down) and Menu (to go back). Holding 1 and 6 whilst pressing DISC three times gets you the soft diagnostics mode. Holding 3 and 4 whilst pressing DISC three times gets you a screen and radio diagnostics mode. Holding 2 and 5 whist pressing DISC three times gets you into a firmware diagnostics mode. The firmware diagnostics mode is the one you want. Inside, you will find a option called "All Reset". This option will completely factory reset the head unit, removing any data stores including the security lock. In this mode you can also do firmware updates, version checks and all of that jazz. I really hope that this helps someone here! Cheers! Igor
  3. Hi just bought a 95 vienta sedan and want to put a new headunit in but as I’ve gone to do it none of the wires seem to be matching up. It has become very confusing and frustrating. I would very much appreciate a guide for the colour code of the wires. P.s. I have done many headunits in other cars but none have been as confusing and strange as this.
  4. Hey guys, Just wondering what is the best kind of aftermarket Headunit that is compatible for a Toyota Corolla ZZE122R, Price can range from a low cheap of $30 all the way to $500 if its worth it. Also in need of a facia kit too! Cheers fellas.
  5. Hi guys I'm having trouble connecting my Samsung Galaxy S6 to via bluetooth to my standard Toyota head-unit. On the head-unit it says "This device is not supported" and on the phone it says "invalid PIN or passkey" but doesn't give you an option to put a passkey or PIN in. Anyone come across this? I have tried an iPhone and that connects with no issues. All other features are working. The head-unit is out of a GT86 although I have put it into my 2006 Corolla. This is the head-unit below
  6. Hey guys, On my 2007 Aurion, the head unit isn't playing any disks. I have the standard stock one also used on the ATX. When I insert a disk, it displays 'READING DISK' but does not actually begin to play it. This issue transitioned from an intermittent one to not functioning at all. The radio still completely functions. Is there a way to fix this? Or is my only way out to purchase a new head unit? Thanks in advance! :D
  7. So i've got a shiny new headunit to upgrade what i currently have my my car the new one has an orange/white wire in the harness i believe its supposed to dim the lights on the headunit when you turn your headlights on. I have a 2000 Corolla and i'm not sure if i have somewhere or where i should connect this orange/white wire just wondering if anyone might have any ideas? Here is a picture of the wire i'm talking about in the wiring diagram.
  8. Hi all, I am replacing my girlfriends headunit in her Toyota Corolla Ascent 2008 and I need some help finding a replacement. I have attached images of what she currently has and here are some links to eBay auctions for new headunits. Your help would be greatly appreciated. I measured the unit that is in there currently and it's around 20cms width and 10cms height. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/290855756390?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221210230479?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648 Thanks in advance. 10. Hey guys and girls, Im looking to upgrade my stereo in my 2008 Aurion ZR6...for the speakers im going with JL Audio C2 6.5'" coaxials for the front and JL Audio C2 6X9" 3 way speakers for the back (hope these both mount good as ive seen someone else on the forum has installed them and the sound quality is great). As for the head unit I would really appreciate some help for an aftermarket head unit as I would like to keep the "stock look." Ive read the forum through and through and cannot find any concrete evidence as to what exactly is the best aftermarket head unit....is it the Easydeals unit?? is it the DigOptions unit?? is it the Auspack unit?? is it the AutoTunez unit?? Im going crazy...someone please help me and let me know which is the best unit out there at the moment that maintains the "stock look" and performs great too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Jono ^_^
  11. Hi all, been stalking the forums for quite a while. looking to replace the current headunit in my ATX with something thats a bit better, Bluetooth, rear cam etc.. been heavily invested in the other topic about the ebay units from easydeals etc but i think im going to be leaning more towards buying a double din brand named (JVC, Alpine etc) HU and install it that way. has any one else got any pictures / info on what they have done to their HU?? im keen on ideas and what looks good and still has steering wheel functionality... ^_^
  12. Hi! I changed my headunit to 2-din Sony xplod recently and the space left by the stock headunit was too big so there are still some space around the new head unit. It doesnt look good in the eyes and it's been bugging me for a while. I dont know what to fill it in. Also, I whenever i step on the accelerator and the headunit is on, there's always a whistling noise. I think it needs an audio capacitor but i dont know which one. I dont know much about cars so i dont know which ones to get. There are like 1 Farad Capacitor, then there's 2, then 3, etc. Please help? Thanks!
