  1. Hi All 😁 I have a 94 LN106 with the 2.8D 3L non turbo engine - my cars only done 156k, the engine was replaced 10yrs ago at 149k and it has only covered 7k since. The car spent the last 10yrs garaged after its previous owner fell ill, sadly he recently passed away and the car was put up for sale, I bought it a couple of months ago. She was running perfectly well, until last week. I had to have the fuel lines changed as they had perished, I also decided to have the timing belt and water pump done at the same time. I picked her up from the mechanic after the work was done and all seemed good. Next day I drove her on the freeway and noticed a decent amount of black smoke when under load (constant). I’m 100% certain it wasn’t doing it before the work. I took it back to the mechanic for them to double check the timing and no issues found. They checked the valve clearance, they are out so I’m having new shims put in to adjust back to spec... I have my fingers crossed that this will resolve the problem but if it doesn’t where next? I thought maybe fuel pump (over fuelling?) but there was no hesitation when driving and no recent adjustments. Id really appreciate any advice anyone can offer, it seems odd that it’s happened after the work was done but she’s literally been sat still for 10yrs so anything could happen! 😉 Thanks in advance!
  2. G'day guys, I own a '97 dual cab ln106 hilux which I believe came out of the factory with an open rear diff as it is not a top of the range model. Recently I went 4wding with a mate who owns the same generation hilux but he has an air locker in the rear and his car was way more capable offroad (mostly sand dunes/beach and hillclimbs). Now I would love to put an air locker or E-locker in mine but spending $1000+ on one doesn't sound like the greatest investment for a 20 year old ute that's worth about $4000. So after doing some research I found that welding the rear diff would pretty much the same job apart from that i wouldn't be able to turn it off/unlock the diff. I've only ever heard of people welding diffs on burnout/drift cars and I know I will get skipping when turning slow and sharp corners (e.g carparks) and increased tyre wear. But i wanted to know if anyone has experience in welding diffs on hiluxs or even any 4wds at all and if the axles and components will be able to handle the extra load and stress
  3. Hey everyone im in abit of a pickle I just recently bought my hilux from interstate (1993 LN106 single cab) and need to take it for a roadworthy in SA. Currently have aftermarket bucket seats but I need to chase up a bench seat but can't find any. Called up a Toyota wrecker and they said they had a bench seat from a 1996-97 hilux and it should fit my hilux as the seats were made from 1989 till 1997 so it should fit, but I need to know if it will definitely fit or not or what bench seat will fit. If anyone could help that would be awesome!! Cheers!
  4. Hey guys! welcome to my first post! I am currently in the early stages of a 1kz-te conversion on my 94 dual cab lux as i shagged my 2.8. i have gone and sourced an intercooled 1kz-te out of a 99 Prado for a very reasonable price and an even more reasonable one for the entire car. For the conversion i need (from what i know) - Engine........ - KZN GB - KZN bellhousing - wiring loom to suit - 1 piece tail shaft THIS IS WHERE MY PROBLEM ARISES! The prado i have found would be great value for money if i buy it whole and grab what i need before parting/ scrapping the rest. However this particular prado happens to be an auto.. It got me thinking whether i should just buy the engine and TRY find the rest of what i need OR if an auto conversion using the GB/ tranny out of the prado would be possible? Not the biggest fan of auto but it would make an interesting result. Any opinions or tips? Maybe someone has done this conversion before? Note i will be performing a rebuild on the 1kz due to the 240xxx on the clock. just for good measure.

Hi there to all, My baby, a 93 hilux 4x4 ln106 has a weird problem with its headlights all of a sudden, when i select low beam on my head lights i have a dead cut and the lights go out. i can get hi beam and intermittent hi beam but when i go for the low beam it dead cuts, this seamed simple enough as i have a mate who is an auto elec and he said it was switch on the selection lever. So i rmoved the switch cleaned it and put if back together and the same problem still exists. furthermore, i swapped the entire column assembly (a mate had a spare for his 94 ln106) and when using the swapped assy i can get low beam, intermittent hi but not hi beam. I've owned the ute for about 1 yr now and love it to death so i've been racking my brain to find the solution, but i'm no electrician at all. any and all suggestions and help would be appreciated.
