  1. Hi Toyota Club, I am in a bit of strife with my decision making and would like some help. I am a current Corolla owner looking to upsize my car. It's a 2006 model and I don't give a stuff about any tech, so reverse camera etc is not a requirement. Just more stuff to go wrong with the car IMO. What I do require is big boot space (for taking gear camping) and reliability + low maintenance costs. I do not require 7 seats. I am tossing up between the RAV, Kluger and Prado but not sure which is most reliable and will best suit my needs. Most of the time I'm city driving, 10% of the time I need a big boot for camping so fuel economy is also important for stop start and short trips. Budget is $20,000 so I will be buying a used vehicle. Let me know your experiences and if your car has been reliable for you. Also let me know your model and year of your car and if it's been good to you. Thanks in advance folks.
  2. So it's been brought to my attention from a mate looking at buying a new Prado, however his concern & naturally mine too. So he wants to retain the factory wheels, but the new 19" design has an utterly stupid tyre size setup for ALL-TERRAIN rubber, not the half ar**ed factory Dunlop AT30's which are utter junk. OE size now is 265/55/R19 (VX & Kakadu) same size, different design Yet NONE of the good AT's come in that size. So for peace of mind & obviously put in advisory sizes Would there be any ill effect or negatives going for lets say 255/55/R19 or 255/60/R19 *NOTE rim width is only 7.5"* (7.5J) Seeing as that opens up ALOT more real AT's ! Falken Wildpeak AT3W, Yokohama Geolander G015, Continental CrossContact AX6, etc just to name a few reputables. Send through your ideas ladies & gents ! 😊😊😊
  3. Hey all, just wondering if anyone happens to know the exact refrigerant capacity for an 04' Mark 3 Avalon ? Also it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a sticky/thread in the workshop area for all Toyota models & relevant refrigerant charge capacity. Camry, Landcruiser, Landcruiser Prado, Aurion, Avalon, Corolla, etc.
  4. Hi brains trust, These 3 lights are coming on around 5v mins after driving starts. Sometimes intermittently. If I turn off the car they go away for a while. Car is performing as power usual. Is up to date with services etc. Raised suspension ages ago. Has done 126,000km. Lights look like VSC, TRAC and active Thanks in advance. https://images.app.goo.gl/6FycBoxJVT2wpfYEA

    150 Series Mods

Hi All, I’m planning on getting a prado 150 series gx Or gxl in the next few months. I can’t decide between petrol or diesel but I know I want to get a manual. I do mainly country long distance (usually at night) driving and beaching driving. Also what would be good first mods? Cheers.
  6. Hello, The OEM front lift struts (53450-69055) on my 2003 FJ120 are not working any more, I can't do anything without having somebody helping me by holding the hood. Having said that, I was working if there is better (not meaning cheap, I mean better :) ) option than the OEM lift struts. Otherwise, I'll go OEM. Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi guys, pls I need any advice, am about to buy a used 2016 Landcruiser prado 4.0 v6 petrol. Is the a good model?
  8. Hi guys first post....I have placed a deposit (subject to my mechanics inspection) on a 2006, 4.0L, 5 speed, V6 Petrol Grande, Auto, GRJ120R, 260,00kms.It's being sold by a Toyota main dealer in Adelaide. The asking price is $20k.it has Full-service history, drives nice and I was lucky enough to meet the previous owners when they traded it in.Now I've been after one for a while, and so posted a question on a Prado owner's "FaceBook page" regarding the asking price. Nearly all the comments (mostly from interstate) stated that I was being "ripped off" and that it is "way overpriced"! Some are saying that if im paying over $15k then im paying over the odds and for $20k I could get a much later model D4D with lower kms.So I wanted to ask the same question on here, I've checked "Redbook" which shows the following:*Private Price Guide $19,100 - $22,200*Dealer Price Guide $20,950 - $24,300*Trade In Price Guide $15,000 - $18,100*Average Km 165,000 - 275,000Obviously, I do not want to pay over the odds and get ripped off, but to me, the price seems about right. I just wondered what you guys thought? Thanks in advance.
  9. Hey guys! I own a 2001 Toyota Prado Grande petrol auto. Always serviced on time and well taken care of. Lately its been running a little rich. Long trips I've noticed it using more fuel than normal. Also, it has developed a little flat spot when pulling up to a round about or something and going to take off again, its seems to have a little miss. To top it off, if i was to put my foot down, it feels like its not getting enough fuel or air as it doesn't use all its power but then feels like that frees up somewhere in the rev range. Most wouldn't notice it but after driving it daily its clear it has an issue. No codes have scanned up ad I've had it into 2 workshops now trying to find the fault. Plugs are new and aren't fowled and both workshops have scratched their heads as to what may be causing the problem. Injectors are also fine. Any and all help greatly appreciated.
  10. Hi there - I have googled and done a good bit of research but really haven't arrived at a comfortable solution regarding a lift kit installation in my Prado. I have a Prado VX, 2011, Diesel, Auto, 150 series. I took the standard 18 inch rims that came with continental tyres as i intended on putting larger tyres on it but found sourcing Mickey Thompson or similar for the 18 inch was very expensive, and not a lot of selection. I have 17 Inch rims on with 265/65R17 and it drives pretty well i reckon. I am now starting to do some Beach driving and camping, and found that driving the beach in the Lancelin (WA) areas and also up at Wagoe Beach was nerve racking. I have the standard recovery gear etc and have better than average 4x4 experience plus beach driving. With 2 young kids and an impatient wife i want to reduce the risk of getting bogged on the beach and listen to the nagging and screaming when i am knee deep in sand. I found the clearance in not enough as when it bogs down, the side step rails cause more of a hindrance. I understand momentum is key but often with beach driving you never know what you are going to encounter. I require a good suggestion for a lift. I am thinking 2 inches, also put back on the 18 inch rims and go with a bigger tyre opposed to the standard continental. I just got a quote for KDS lift kit? fully installed for $1850 here in Perth. I am seeking quality, so will not skimp on price too much but as always want a reliable set up that still gives a good ride and more confidence in the sand. I would greatly appreciate recommendations for a new set up. thanks in advance - Jules
  11. Hi everyone, I am new to the Prado world and struggling using the audio system in the Kakadu 2012 I can use the touch screen for tuning the radio etc, however the buttons on the Audio system itself do not do anything. Such as the Power on button, volume, tuning etc. I have been reading the manual and cant find anything that says these wont work. is there a setting somewhere, or do I just have a malfunctioning system? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks
  12. I have had this vehicle about 6000 km. During this time I have done a double roundtrip Sydney-Hunter Valley (back to back) and the best fuel consumption displayed on the dash was 10.5 l/100km. I have noticed this is heavily damped (That means in case you don't know it does not change fast) I also have never had any different consumption around town. Always either 10.6 or 10.5. I rather expected this vehicle to do better on freeway driving, but that has not proved the case. Then a friend said I should check if the displayed reading is accurate. Its not. It should be 11.08, not 10.6. That was over 560 kms. I wonder if anyone else has a different experience. I was told this engine is more efficient than the old one. I have never owned another Toyota, but a friend tells me he gets significantly better consumption on the freeway, even while towing a light van, but he has the old engine. Geoff
  13. I have a 2015 Prado Altitude which has the JBL radio used in various Toyota models. The radio has a terrible echo & feedback for anyone who calls me in the car. I dont hear the echo in the car, it is only people who call me from either mobile or landline phones. The supplier (Fujitsu Ten) and Toyota Australia have evaluated the car and confirmed the problem but dont have any solutions. Has anyone else experienced this type of problem with their JBL radios?

    Rust Protection

Hi Guys, I am new to Toyota Prados and new to offroading. The latest addition to my family is a 2007 KDJ120R. She is awesome and I have taken on the beach already. I am scared to death of rust, but there is no way she is avoiding the beach etc. What advice do you guys have for rust prevention and avoidance? Thanks.
  15. Hi fellow Prado owners, I have a 2008 D4D Prado that has been sensational to date. My problem is that I have been reading a lot about injector issues. Having been a owner of a 1999 Common rail Jackaroo for a number of years and having the misfortune of having had a fatal engine problem at 130K and the NEW replacement engine showing the exact same symptoms at around 100K, I decided to invest in a Toyota Prado. I trusted that toyota could build a great, Long life Diesel, common rail engine. However, of late, I have been reading a number of articles regards the issues stemming from the injectors. What I have not found is a solution!. I wonder if Toyota have done anything to address the articles written. Do they acknowledge the problem? Do they have a solution? How do I find out what the CORRECT solution is? By the way, great website guys, many thanks. Peter
  16. Hey guys! welcome to my first post! I am currently in the early stages of a 1kz-te conversion on my 94 dual cab lux as i shagged my 2.8. i have gone and sourced an intercooled 1kz-te out of a 99 Prado for a very reasonable price and an even more reasonable one for the entire car. For the conversion i need (from what i know) - Engine........ - KZN GB - KZN bellhousing - wiring loom to suit - 1 piece tail shaft THIS IS WHERE MY PROBLEM ARISES! The prado i have found would be great value for money if i buy it whole and grab what i need before parting/ scrapping the rest. However this particular prado happens to be an auto.. It got me thinking whether i should just buy the engine and TRY find the rest of what i need OR if an auto conversion using the GB/ tranny out of the prado would be possible? Not the biggest fan of auto but it would make an interesting result. Any opinions or tips? Maybe someone has done this conversion before? Note i will be performing a rebuild on the 1kz due to the 240xxx on the clock. just for good measure.
  17. G'day everyone, I have a Landy Disco 2 + Prado 1KZ engine conversion and it failed to start this evening. The car vehicle was fine this morning and I did stop by a few places before rushing off to a meeting at a school. It failed to start when I wanted to go home right after the meeting. Here's what I tried: 1. Initially I tried to start the car via ignition and it failed to start. The sound it made when I try the ignition sounded normal. 2. Had a local staff's Pajero to jumpstart the car via a pair of jumper cables, failed. We thought it was the jumper cables being the problem so we borrowed another set which came with a Toyota Rush as standard, failed too. 3. Called a mechanic to come over and diagnose the problem. Mechanic tried using heavy duty jumpers to start the car via a new Isuzu D-MAX (2014 Rodeo), failed too. 4. After some diagnostic checks done by the mechanic, he concluded that the landy needs to be towed to their workshop for a closer look on the battery and the alternator. He further added that the carbon piece in the alternator might need some replacing. Additional info: The 1KZ engine had a dry cell battery installed, and mechanic decided that the battery could be one of the problem too. I'm desperate for answers so I really need the opinions from offroaders and enthusiasts such as you good people to give me some insight as to what the problem might be. Thanks heaps you guys! Ken, and I'm from Sabah (Borneo Island), Malaysia.
  18. I have a 2004 Prado Grande with 170,000 on the clock which Ive had since new. The vehicle does not go off road is serviced regularly, and to date has run pretty much faultlessly. Last week as it was started in the morning and put into gear something failed - sound of little men with hammers, beating metal. Seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle? With gearbox in D the noise is there, in N it goes away. So obviously something has broken as the noise is only there when the driveshaft or gearbox is turning. It drives fine and changes gear fine, except for the noise. I had to drive it a few Km to the local auto transmission repair shop. He has a quick look at it and all the drive shafts and universals seem ok. Said the oil in the transmission is looking dark? He will take it apart in the next few days and then give me a quote - I have horrific visions of what he will say and the associated cost? Not a lot of info yet, but anyone got any ideas or thoughts. If required is a new gearbox from a breakers yard an option? Any input more than welcome at this stage. Thanks Peter

  20. Hi All, I currently own a 2008 Camry Altise and a great car it is too. I'm thinking of getting another toyota (2nd VEH), maybe a RAV4? My question is this, I know my model Toyota has a timing chain, what years/models of RAV4/toytas etc also come with timing chains. Not a fan of timing belts and the excessive cost in servicing them. Thanks in advance. ^_^
  21. Hey there, Will an Auto Diesel Hilux ECU work in an Auto Diesel Prado (150 Series)? Both run on the D4-D 1KD-FTV 3.0l Turbo Diesel Engine Same compression ratios Hilux uses 4 speed automatic Whereas Prado uses 5 speed automatic The wiring harness would be different too I imagine? Camrolla

  23. Hi all, I recently purchased a 2007 grande and noticed that when I went to remove the third row seats the covers for the latch points were missing. Does anyone know where I can get some from, not worried about color matching? Cheers,
  24. Hello TOC Team, I've been looking for these Prado's for a while now and I just can't seem to find them. I presume they're rare. It's the Landcruiser Prado LJ Series.... I think that's what they're called ? I love the look of this series. I'm looking for the Turbo Diesel Manual Transmission 2.4L Diesel or 3.0L Diesel (preferred) If any knows the whereabouts of one for sale could you please send me a message. I'm in Brisbane but wouldn't mind bringing one from overstate. Thanks, Camrolla
