bypass regulator on alternator?

Recommended Posts

been searching forums for a while and thaught id ask here,

i have an old alternator from a ae92, im planning to turn it into an arc welder, i know it can be done and i have all the plans and procedures, but im not sure how to bypass the regulator? i have to energize the field winding with a constant 12 volts from a battery, but not through the regulator, it has to go straight to the winding. i can upload pics if need be, please help!

PS. i can upload pics of the alternator if need be,
