2008 Kluger cold start rattle or "VVTi rattle"

Hi all,

Owned my Kluger since march 2008 and its been great.

Only issue is I have noticed the startup rattle started happening in 2010/11. I'm pretty sure I reported it to Sydney City Toyota a few times but cannot recall. They do have comments about the rattle issue I mentioned only a few months after warranty expired.

So they wont fix it under warrantly. Cost to fix is over 2300!

What I hate about this is...

1. When I did mention it to SCT when the warranty had just expired they failed to inform me if it was looked at. I cant recall if I mentioned it previously but I'll ask SCT for all my service records.

2. This issue is very well known. Google VVTi rattle!

3. I never thought the cost to fix it would be so high or that the problem is that bad that it could cause some real damage to the motor.

Wondering if any other Kluger owners have experienced the same issue. Did you get it fixed under warranty? If you got it done out of warrantly how much did you pay? Is it really worth fixing?
