  1. Has anyone else got unusual high oil consumption with their V8 Turbo Diesel, or is it just me ?? :(

Within a few weeks after delivery I noticed my new GXL Wagon was using oil. Not just a bit, but 1.4L in the first month alone ! (about 4000km). Now, 4 month later, my 4WD is undergoing yet another oil consumption test at my local Toyota Service Centre. It appears it is mostly obvious after driving long hill climbs. (i.e. Blue Mountains, Snowy Mountains). Just topped oil up again, this time with 1.1 L just after 3000km.

Finally heard today (3rd. party) that this is internally known within Toyota, but yet nothing done about it!

Anyone else with information or similar experience ?

Checkout my posting in the LC200 section..http://au.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17964...noisy diesel. Make sure your dealer submits a 'DRP' as per my posting..

    Cheers

105,000 kms now and hasn't used any oil between services since 50,000kms.

  2. Hello everyone,

I have a new 76 series GXL Wagon with factory fitted CD-Radio with Bluetooth Mobile phone connection.(no navigation system)

Unfortunately the Bluetooth function is useless since many mobile phones don't work with the unit or the audio is so poor that others can't hear you whilst talking when driving. I tried already 5 different mobile phones ! 2 worked with only poor sound quality, the other 3 didn't pair or did, but then dropped out about 20 seconds into the call. I believe the problem is the microphone gain, which can't be adjusted in the regular settings. I've seen similar problems mentioned in formums about some hilux models, but with an older style radio / nav. system.

Anyone out there knowing how to adjust the microphone gain ?? The radio is made by Fujitsu Ten Ltd. for Toyota. Part # PZQ60-0041, or PZQ60-0042 or PZQ 60-0044.

    Thanks in advance.

    Karl

Same problem with my 2009 Kluger - barely worth the effort of using Bluetooth...

The 200LC GXL bluetooth works like a charm with a nokia 6120.

Hands free quality will always be poorer than having the phone close.

  3. Hmm, I have not experienced the dust issue with the tool kit, etc. In fact I had to show someone the tool kit and that was after driving on a dusty unsealed road. The interior remained spotless. Maybe it could be that Toyota have made some dust sealing improvements in the latest models? Mine is the updated model that was introduced mid 2009.

What has your Toyota dealer done to address your dust ingress problem?

Ours is one of the first models - delivered Dec 2007.

As long as the "fresh" is selected then it will pressurize the cab.

If I travel for more than 4-5kms on the gravel with "Recirc", I can smell the dust.

What I do is use fresh until another vehicle approaches, then switch to Recirc then back to fresh when the dust has cleared.

Our LC200 now has 95,000kms of which at least 15,000kms would be on the gravel and it is still relatively dust free in side.

Yep, the rear spoiler is a waste of time as far as keeping the back window clean.

  4. Just came back from the Snow with the LC200. As the LC200 has Vehicle stability control (VSC), which made the whole driving lots comfortable.

(My Prado GXL doesn't have the VSC as it was the 1st few LC120 in OZ).

My LC80 was the run out model and must the best LC80 ever built, that was the reason I kept it for 12 years till my wife et sick with it <_<

I still don't like the built quality of my Prado as the cheap plastic everywhere (cf LC80: both GLX). The new LC200 GLX have even more cheap plastic than the Prado!

Sometime I'm think Toyotal just testing our patient

This really is an apathetic forum LOL.

We had the 70,000 km service done, and now have 6th speed operating correctly - Hooray.

Fuel consumption now is 11.8 L/100km as compared to 14.9 L/100km, same journey, driver etc and using CC.

  5. Hi all ive recently purchased a new 200 series lancruiser sahara and used the sat nav for the first time the other day, works great only thing ive noticed is it dosent give current road speed limit or speed cameras.

As i have a navman s90i in the 100 series and it does display this im wondering if its possible to get the toyota sat nav to do the same ?

We only have the poverty pack (GXL) and hence no factory GPS (LOL).

What we have done is fit a MIO 520 digiwalker (old model now) which has been cracked and runs OziExplorer CE for the bush and MIO Map for the City.

Hope you get a solution, and good luck for any more replies.

  6. Well I have heard people referring to this place as the Corolla Owners Club before. That tends to give away where most of the active population here is at. The Aurion boards are picking up though.

Thank god still someone here :yahoo:

Just get my LC200 this week. The LC200 is LOTS BIGGER than my old friend LC80 and Prado!

Even the LC200 has a V8 engine, but still feel slower than the Prado: driving the Prado is more like a sport car cf the LC200 :toast:

I also had LC80 (HJ 80 GXL) many years ago. Quite a simple beast compared to the LC200, but wouldn't pull the skin of a custard tart LOL.

The PRADO may feel faster of the mark, but it is much lighter - See if the PRADO will zip past a 60m road train like the LC200, and off course it doesn't have any side air bags (yet).

  7. This is the most inactive forum in the whole site.

Meta you are not wrong there.

I also post on a Terracan forum, and there will no less than 5 - 10 posts / day.

Lucky to see 5 posts / month here !

Our LC 200 now has 65,000 kms and running like a train.

  8. We have 2 LC 200 series glx. one is the deisel and one the petrol. They have both done about 15000 km and we are having huge problems with dust on the interior. It makes no difference weather the A/C on on recycle or not. It comes in through the door handles, window controls. Even the storage compartments in the back tailgate have dust comming out of them.

I am waiting on some info from Toyota but I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Other wise they are both great vehicles.

    Hello,

    I'm from Chile,Patagonia, South America.

My brother and I bought 2 LC 200 VX Diesel on April 2008.

    We imported them from Belgium.

This summer we went to the Chilean Patagonia and we traveled about 1000 Km on off-road .

We were shocked with the dust that ingress into the cabin in both LC 200.

We asked to our local dealer and he said that "It's normal"

    Yes, sure .....normal

Well I don't think so., I'm not agree with that.

It's absolutely unusual that you can see the dust flying in front of your face .

It supposes that the LC it's made for this kind of off road travels

It's unacceptable that a vehicle of that COST present that kind of problem.

I have made the same travel many times in my old Land Rover Discovery 300 Tdi 1996 .... and surprise!!! I never had this disagreeable problem.

Recently I've been in Bolivia and I've suffered the same problem ,a lot of dust in the cabin.

I really appreciate that if you heard of any solution could send me an e-mail (jmalcalde@netline.cl)

I hope that my English was understandable.

    Sincerely,

    Jose Miguel.

    Jose, try this.

Always use "Fresh" on gravel with fan at medium.

Never use "Recirc" on the gravel unless there is oncoming traffic, and then switch back to "Fresh"

Never follow others in the dust - just pull over and wait..

What I normally do with oncoming traffic, is crank the fan up high for 10-20 seconds, and the put onto "Recirc" when passing the other vehicle, and then back to "Fresh".

Our 200 LC has 62,000 km's and about 15,000 of these km's, are on dirt.

  9. I'd highly recommend speaking to your local Toyota dealer and having the 6h gear ECU modification installed.

Drops in to sixth gear much earlier and holds a lot longer.

    Hi Richo.

Can you elaborate on the "6th gear ECU modification" please.

I have asked Toyota a number of times (although not for at least 6 months), and all they did was say it was within spec.

Do you have any details so I can ask again.

    Thanks.

  10. :o Thats right, i just found out my workmate has a 90 lt tank and no sub this is another 1200 dollars to spend,i use mine for work n play, the main reason i brought this is i am planing a outback holiday for over 2 months. i wanted the gxl wagon but thought i would go with the workmate wagon less things to go wrong. i added a arb winch bar, flares 5 new alloy rims with 5 new bf goodrich mud krawlers front and rear arb air lockers compressor,9000lb warn winch, tinted windows.2 inch lift kit and a draw system in the rear phew!. oh i had to pay extra for air con too. ok at the end of the day i will have a great 4wd but i only found out today that it has no sub tank!!! but the troopys have .also i found out from the fitters that the v8 do have big end problems already, same as the 80 series turbo diesel had in the 90"s and toyota cant explain why they use so much oil either! now i am beginning to wonder will this motor last in the outback?did i make a good choice? i dont wanna be stuck somewhere in the bush for days lol. i would like if anyone else has these problems. cheers Ron

Ron, it's not the motor I would be worried about but rather all the electronics.

These are a beaut bus but when they go wrong - good luck.

I had a rear wheel sensor cable fail 300kms S/E of Carnarvon. User guide said don't drive the vehicle - yeah sure.

Rang the dealer (luckily it was Fri before closing) and got the OK to keep driving without voiding warranty.

This ABS sensor had failed due to a previous tire blowout a couple of weeks prior (?) which caused the ABS & 4WD not to operate (could not lock the center diff).

Oh yeah, at the time there was no indication of the error - most of the dash lights on or flickering, and it was only when the computer was used by the dealer, did it reveal the problem of the ABS sensor - very disappointing.

  11. Started with 2L / 10k kms up until around 30k and now 1L / 10k. LC now has 54k on the clock.

Clunk is still there and I believe the Prados are having the same issue.

Don't have the dust issues and we do a lot of gravel driving - use the fresh with fan and switch to recirc when passing others, and don't follow in the dust.

Turbo lag seems to have improved (less lag) since the recall for so called stalling !

  12. Average fuel consumption figures for 7000 kms is 14.3 liters / 100km (vehicle has done 39,000 kms)

All driving at speed limits on open road and City Highway / Freeway, and most on Cruise control with A/C.

Yep, 6th gear is useless under 115-120 km/h.

I have discussed with Toyota, but they say it is within spec.

A bit sad really as the the vehicle will just about idle down the road in 5th but won't shift into 6th when cruising at 110 km/h.

The vehicle is basically superb with a ton of grunt, but there are a few things they could have done better.

    1. 6th speed not configured for Australian road speeds

    2. Too much turbo lag from stand still - got to do with emission settings

    3. Don't like the "Bat Car" push start button

    4. little knobs on the radio and no steering wheel radio buttons

Other than these, it is the best mannered 4WD I driven on the gravel, and tows like a train.

  13. Hi

My 200 series Sahara turbo diesel makes a knocking noise when I first drive it when cold. It has done 23,000 km and is burning a similar amount of oil to that reported by others.

It occurs for about the first km or 2 and then it goes away.

While driving it sounds to me like when a vehicle has noisey tappets however my neighbour heard it as I drove past him and he said it sounded like big end noise.

It has done it since new. It makes no difference if I let it idle for 10 to 15 minutes before driving. Otherwise it is good with no other problems other than the driveshaft noise which they rectified.

My dealer acknowledges that it is occuring and his comment is that it is common with others and I need not worry!

    Any thoughts?

    Good day Poppa.

We definatley don't have a knock when cold. It is a little louder, but no knock.

We started using around 1 liter / 5,000 kms when new, and now with 39,000 kms on the clock, it is down to 1 liter /10,000 kms.

What I would do is go in and listen to another 200 at the dealer first thing in the morning.

If this satisfies you then OK, if not then leave your vehicle at the dealer overnight and do a comparison next morning with another 200.

  14. It is definately road dust, it commes out of the door fittings (locks etc). These cars get wiped down almost daily. Toyota have now told me not to run the a/c on recirculate as that causes low pressure inside the vehicle which is causing the dust to be sucked in through the doors.

They now have a new problem on both of them. The door seals on the top half of the tailgate have worn through the paint on the bottom half where they join up.

    Thanks for your reply anyway.

PS. I have attached some pics...sorry about the quality.

Good day Safari & other 200 drivers.

1st time on this forum, as usually on the Terracan forum (TCO = TerraCan Owner - haha).

I am fortunate as I share a 200 series as a work vehicle with a"back to back" partner.

Ours must be one of the first in Aus, and was delivered late Dec 2007, and now has 38000 kms on the clock.

I would be guessing that about 8000 kms would have been on gravel in the Pilbara WA,

We don't have an issue with the dust, but we never use recirc on the gravel unless there is oncoming traffic, and never follow others in the dust (just pull over and have a leg stretch).

What I normally do with oncoming traffic is crank the fan up high for 10-20 seconds, and the put onto recirc when passing the other vehicle.

We travel on some real crap roads and tracks, and on most occasions when I open the tail gate, I stand back because of the dust.

When I am back at work next, I will check our rear door seals for wear.
